Each time you post a Message on someone's wall instead of your own, they'll get a notification, like you've been getting, which is why it's usually better to send messages to the conversations with people you're trying to talk to (Because it posts on their wall):P

But I see people were trying to explain how VMs work to you but failing :p
If you click "View Conversation" in the Message they sent, it'll send you to a new page which contains your messages from and to you with that person, if you send messages on that page, it'll appear on their page rather than yours(Like Raichoice seems to really want to happen. XD)
