Hmm...northrop is always there, as well as a ton of auto design firms. They need fluid dynamics people, but it's not aircraft :( There are basically an equal number of viable helicopter companies, and there's tons of smaller companies springing up (virgin, spaceX, etc). Actual airline companies may hire as well; I've applied to a couple internships. The big thing to remember is that the major companies are MASSIVE.

Thanks for the info! Fluid dynamics u_u I love of classical mech, but fluids is one of the dullest topics in it (don't ask why, but fluids is under CM over here!). Virgin galactic is an interesting operation, but it seems too niche. Coming to airlines, what do airlines employ aerospace engineers for? Maintenance?

And have you considered companies like Embraer or god forbid Russian companies like Tupelov!?

I think it's an option, but significantly less so for ME. I'd probably be seen as a traitor or something if I started working for Tupelov or Sukhoi or Yakelov. Shame, though...perhaps I could get away with a european company, but I'm not sure.

I don't really know what airline companies would hire aero engineers for though--perhaps something like sales research/communication between manufacturers and the airline? I haven't looked into it too much, I only was trying for an internship last year that didn't go through.

Thanks for all the info! BTW, just got another idea. Would aircraft engine companies such as General Electric, P&W, RR, and Snecma (the concorde's snecma olympus engines just sound so cool :) ) be hiring aerospace engineers?

Yes, of course! There's a huge market out there for us, just not all of it is what we think it is. There's hundreds of thousands of jobs for aero engineers (actually listing hiring: aerospace engineers) that aren't pure aerospace; widget companies and the like. But for top people there's still tons of amazing jobs.

Hell, even amazon needs us now with UAV research!
