Liked it a lot in the same way I liked the first one: I thought the set-up was reaaally rushed but once it started picking up it was really great.

I liked that they made Hawkeye more important and showed us more of his character in ways that didn't feel cheap. Like his motivational speech was so beautiful I wanted to cheer ;___;

I thought the action was really creative! I usually get bored of action scenes in a lot of movies that is just monotonous shooting at each other for ages, but they used the powers in really creative ways. Like the train scene was really cool how Quicksilver was running in front of the train to get people out of the way. And when Hawkeye shot the arrow and then he just kinda grabs it and nobody knows what happened haha

Speaking of him, I thought the twins were really good. I kinda was like really "meh" when I heard Elizabeth Olsen was going to play Wanda but wow she owned the role! Really did a great job and made a basically random and unneeded addition earn its spot in the movie.

ULTRON WAS AMAZING oh man he was so good. James Spader is a hero he owned that role so hard I can't stand it. The only problems I had with Ultron I actually realized were unfair after reading TheValkyries' post. It is weird to see Ultron being all emotional and...juvenile (for lack of a better word) but like he said, that's just because we're used to AI in movies being cold and emotionless. It makes sense as he was programmed for personality.

That was part of the set up that I thought was rushed, that Ultron would appear so quickly and that he would be evil immediately, but again that's kind of being savvy to the common way AI is portrayed in fiction, of how they start out helpful and completely compliant but then later become more of extremists.

Last thing, I really liked how they went out of their way to show the superheroes actually saving civilians. I love the dark and gritty stuff as much as the next guy but we've kinda forgotten about this classical idea of a superhero who sweeps people off their feet in the nick of time and is just someone that cares and saves people. So I liked all that stuff it was just very nice to see :)

I agree :) although frankly I felt this avengers was just as overhyped as the first one (although I didn't like the first one though, so I digress). DEFINITELY loved Spader, I think my favorite line was when he was about to get punched into oblivion by hulk and he goes "Well, with the benefit of retrospect- (BLOOM!) [paraphrase]" it's especially interesting because of how they purposely made him this extremely intelligent character who is sort of brought down by his personality flaws (his desire to crush the avengers' spirits, his hatred of stark, his twisted vision of a new human race), because it's quite obvious that ultron could have easily beaten the avengers in any number of ways but instead chooses to try to defeat them in a symbolic victory which basically results in his plan falling apart--
Also happy that they at least had a legitimate reason for the Avengers fighting/making up in this movie (I really hated how quickly the team went from hate -> yay team in the first movie just to fight the chitauri).

Oh, so that's what he said? lmao! I actually didn't catch that line and I was like bugging everyone like "what did he just say?" and getting all OCD about it whew

I didn't mind how it worked in the first movie, because I mean Coulson "died" and all and they had to put aside their differences and honestly extremely petty arguments for something more important. And then the whole fight was a great bonding opportunity :]

Another problem I think this movie had was kind of like the same as Amazing Spider-Man 2, Ultron was definitely a sympathetic villain, like Electro, but they didn't have enough time to explore him and his ideology quite as much as I wanted and so when he was killed at the end I didn't quite feel the closure as there was just so much more I needed to see him do :[

I think one of their best decisions was how they had both twins have such a good understanding of how Stark thinks when none of the others do (that one dialogue right before tony makes the vision). And that is what I think was the most appealing thing about the film, which is how they kept drawing parallels between stark and ultron and their worldviews, really interesting to see how they kept going to extremes in order to destroy each other (both of them see the other as symbols of what they hate most in themselves). I did also think the Banner-Nat thing was a bit rushed but that was really only because there was no hint of it at all in the first (besides them riding off together and that doesn't even count). Honestly I enjoy Marvel movies much more when the character dynamics and plot/moral conflicts are fleshed-out or make sense (Avengers is an example of one I think doesn't make the cut there), but AoU was definitely a huge step up from the first, and I'm especially excited to see the Infinity arc finally coming to a close. Do you think they'll actually have Thanos killing half of all life like in the comics, or something else?

Basically when they killed him they did not yet finish the journey to make him an unsympathetic or irredeemable villain so when he died it was kind of a bummer.

yeah, it's also a real shame they killed off ultron, I was thinking at first vision might have absorbed him or something (they never actually show what happens in the woods just that weird flash of light) but then I realised that would be too far-fetched even for Marvel and wouldn't change anything anyways.

The last thing I especially liked was that whole thing with Thor's hammer and how Vision could lift it and Cap could just budge it, a very interesting sideplot (do you think maybe Cap will be able to use it against Thanos or some other villain later on as he becomes more and more 'worthy?')

Yeah the Bruce/Natasha romance was kinda weird she needs to be with Cap ehehehehe

not sure what they'll do with Thanos because I didn't read the comics but they've been changing a few things in most of these stories so I dunno.

I thought Cap would lift it in this movie 'cause of the foreshadowing but I guess the foreshadowing was that *someone* would be able to lift it, just not him. He did lift it in the comics I've been told. I hope he does do it eventually.

So many words to read just to grasp someone's opinion on an action movie

Honestly, no movie is simple enough to just have an opinion of a few words. Even a movie that doesn't have a complex story you can go into detail on casting, direction, cinematography, pacing, etc.
