From what I've been told, and I can't recall whether this was just someone's opinion or not, as is almost always preferred as it better shows the "if this then this" mindset ... But now that you ask I'm thinking it's probably a subjective thing I picked up down the line

yeah that reasoning seems a bit dubious (also bc i really cannot tell why that would even be the case)... and if anything "as" is the questionable one lmao because it can suffer from the same time vs. cause ambiguity that (among other things) got "since" banned :p i'm always open to hearing people's opinions on stuff like this but they're pretty much interchangeable in my book so no need to change one to the other
