oh ok that's what you mean. Yeah I noticed that too. Like when they cut out all the instruments except the vocals and drums and sometimes a little bass or electric guitar

probably cuz they couldn't think of better ideas for choruses and breaking it down to almost just the vocals makes it seem more intimate? but it definitely wasn't only this era, Cheap Trick did it in "I Want You To Want Me"

they didn't use the weird filter though again it's prob to make it seem more intimate in a way like "hey I have a sensitive side too, let's slip it in the song at the bridge"

(yes I understand punk is pretty much only bass, guitar, vocals, and drums what I mean is they minimize how much is used during those parts)

I didn't say I disagree I was just explaining it. And the weird vocal filter could be just a new style that everyone decided to do. Just like how in the 80s everyone had to use synthetic instruments for some reason
