well it wasn't the empire anymore it's a new thing. Plus it kind of is a literal Starkiller since it sucks up energy from stars and can destroy entire star systems.

also personally I hate Starkiller he is too OP and too important (like the whole Rebel alliance started because of him???) it didn't make any sense but that's a separate thing.

"The first order" IS the imperials tho, just saying it's different is silly. Anyway calling it "the star killer" in the same vein as "the sun crusher" or "galaxy gun" would have been better. But they didn't because that's a silly, nonutilitarian name. Thus breaking the fourth wall and relegating it to "just a reference"

ok so this just confirms that it is 100% arbitrary

and actually they are quite different but you'd have to like read all the background material to know that and I agree you shouldn't have to read external material to understand a movie so I will concede that one.

Would anyone take the name "star killer" as a serious name? I think people would have said it sounds basic. But it gets a pass because reference

My point is that the galaxy gun isn't "galaxygun base"
Hulavuta
Hulavuta
It sounds just as silly as Death Star tbh in fact the words are pretty much synonyms
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
"Death star base" tho
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
"THX 1138" base

I find star killer base silly because it kills a star, then shoots it across the galaxy? ? ? Why not just suck up the star of your target planet
Hulavuta
Hulavuta
Yeah I agree star killer base sounds a little silly the "star killer" would've been much better

Also what exactly is silly about a long range weapon do you think you can just go into enemy territory and be like "imma take your sun k?" And expect them to let you do that. The Fallen in transformers tried to do that and look what happened to him
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
That's what the sun crusher did :( I mean why kill two suns? Also literally no scientific explanation as to how it deconstructs a sun;;;;; literally what the mass difference between the planet is insane, and also the sun is just energy? ? Idk how it shoots that ftl across the galaxy

Star wars is an a-tier scifi universe but they didn't even try to pretend the starkiller was even feasible
Hulavuta
Hulavuta
Star Wars never was and never will be science fiction
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
Yet it actually builds a fairly good sci fi setting. Beyond a few things everything is explained
Hulavuta
Hulavuta
"Explained" yeah but not in a way that makes actual sense though, only in-universe sense. Like how do lightsabers work? Crystals or some shit but we can't ever get those in real life. How do we have faster than light travel? Hyperdrive I guess however that works.

Starkiller sucks up a sun that's just what it does. But Star Wars always breaks the laws of physics, especially when it comes to the Death Star and newton's laws. Shouldn't the Death Star get fucked up by the opposite reaction of blowing up a planet? Okay so maybe they have something inside that absorbs the resulting force but then why can't star killer have that too

As for faster than light that has and always will be an unfortunate necessity to any space-based series that is at least Galaxy wide. But I don't see why it's weirder to send death beams ftl but not ships.
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
Hyperdrive puts ships into hyperspace, basically like wormholes. And the death star was powered by anti matter annihilation and just directed the beams :o but those beams from star killer didn't go ftl or into hyper space;;; they honestly should have had it suck up the sun to kill it but couldn't have a cool shot that way.......
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
Light sabers are plasma emissions of those crystals but yeah they take liberties. Star killer was just ablatant bad plot point and was tried to save with a cool name but no
Hulavuta
Hulavuta
that's exactly my point they can just make up something and easily write this shit lol. Like saying that Starkiller had some technology that allowed them to compress energy and propel it faster than light. They can easily just write that shit and it would make as much sense as anything else. The only reason it doesn't is because they never explained it.

I agree Starkiller was a bad plot point but because it was rehash and killed off the New Republic before we even got to know wtf the New Republic was

the shots were cool though
GatoDelFuego
GatoDelFuego
also the shots weren't ftl because they literally could see them coming, like WHAT the HECK is up with that dude?? Again this could have been avoided IF THEY JUST SUCKED UP THE SUN INSTEAD; why didn't they make starkiller base just like the sun crusher??? supernova the galactic senate. Dumb

maybe they accelerated over time bro
