Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
They have some nice science, philosophy, history in them but they do not really mean anything. Like he does a lot of research for his books but it's just so that he can move the plot forward in a (somewhat) scientifically/historically accurate way, it's not really trying to make a statement or be a satire or something.
I remember when I was a younger and inexperienced person on the internet and I was talking about how much I loved Michael Crichton and this guy was like "I read 'The Lost World' once and now I only read non-fiction."
I mean they do "try" to be satire, but the stories always feel plot-driven first whereas satires are usually theme driven since they are about themes. So when you read Crichton you more come out of it remembering the story, like the suspense, thrills, etc. rather than what it was trying to say about science
Honestly the setup for them is kinda like fan fiction. You know? Same fluid, wordy descriptions that signal exactly what archetypes the character is going to play. Like they always describe somebody's type of glasses or what shirt they're wearing.
