Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Um, I'm pretty sure the meaning of that quote is to say "count your blessings and don't be jealous of what other people have?" not to say "deal with your own problems fuck everyone else"
also what if one of the ppl that died during 9/11 was a serial killer that was planning on detonating a nuclear bomb in the middle of LA? you never know
Also, stopping 9/11 by killing the pilot doesn't solve the problem. It just stops an event. It doesn't stop the reason BEHIND the event. It would happen eventually. Only solution is to go talk to the president about the future n stuff. So i think he made the wrong choice
Man, that's just like in the book Timeline by Michael Crichton. Saying that some things you can't change. The example he used was even if you go back in time, you can't really make one baseball team beat another one. You could kill all the people in the stadium or something but it's outside of your power to change the outcome of the game. (although he used it to dismiss the grandfather paradox which tbh this does NOT dismiss)
Anyway that point was brought up in the video. He had to stage a fake 9/11 to get everyone on alert so that they could prevent future 9/11s. So it might not happen eventually, it hasn't so far.
Anyway, the whole point of this deals with knowledge. The argument is that it is your moral obligation to stop 9/11 because you know it's going to happen. You do NOT know if one of the victims was a serial killer, so that's beyond your moral duty.
I argue that you are never responsible for someone else's actions, even if you might have had the opportunity to stop them. It shifts blame in my opinion
