uhm ya kinda, there's no groups from that era that i'm that much of a fan of, but i do dig the sound of bands like tears for fears and pearl jam and others like that :0 still a lot of that music that i'm yet to get familiar with though

you should listen to some stuff by like...depeche mode, new order/joy division, echo & the bunnymen, the cure, the smiths, etc. essentially anything that originated from the "post-punk" genre of music
