one thing to keep in mind is color contrast: if you want things to stand out from the things around them give them different shades/colors/tints/hues. However at the same time you wanna maintain an overall sense of balance among the whole picture so it can be good to have a general color palette that governs the entire piece. Do you have any wip stuff you could show me so I could get a sense of how far along you are?
