Welcome to Smogon! Take a moment to read the Introduction to Smogon for a run-down on everything Smogon, and make sure you take some time to read the global rules.
Honestly, I'm surprised this was ever a thing. I always thought colleges were supposed to be that "harsh reality" of conflicting viewpoints and where people go to get a larger perspective. Especially that "millennials" are the ones who push for this, because aren't most universities pretty liberal? Is this actually common?
The only example I can think of was on Tuesday for my 19th Century Art class, the professor just said he wanted to give a "trigger warning" that since this is the 19th century, Americans were pretty racist towards African Americans and Native Americans so people might use slurs because they are in the texts even and that doesn't necessarily reflect the views of the student who is reading it. Does this need to be said? It seems pretty obvious
Welcome to the wakeup call. The world is full of this. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/11/20/40-of-millennials-ok-with-limiting-speech-offensive-to-minorities/ "colleges" are massively liberal. Their professors vary. The social attitude is liberalism is a-ok, but that can vary college to college. UA is pretty conservative (read: frat boys like trump) but we had a big protest about a year ago to request that we increase our black faculty count by 5% as well as guaranteed safe spaces for everybody.
People don't like hearing stuff that disagrees with them, like ever. What's "obvious" to you and me and most people you are friends with is vector calculus to the general population.
