one of my favorite comic lines is when the goblin was introduced. He is like to some crime bosses "but with MY leadership, we could take over every racket in this city!" and one guy in the background says to his friend "hey, check out the corny costume, pal!"

dang so even back then they needed self-aware humor so people didn't find it too corny
