I think people do have an unhealthy obsession with stuff

Why is it that people somehow think this book is good, just that the reviewers are applying their burning sharp cultural lens to the changing times and wokely seeing that the book's worship of gamer culture is bad. When in reality, the people that always trashed the book WERE the Gamers? The toxic blind spot of the fandom?

Was it the gamers who trashed the book? Honestly I was under the impression that everyone liked it except you and me.
