ah yeah because I was gonna say up until recently it seemed derivative works were held in really high regard. but nowadays if something remotely resembles something else, people say it's a ripoff. Like there are actually people who say Tarantino is a talentless ripoff. I just don't understand

Derivatives draw attention to the original at the least, and lots of remakes are made with good intent by the remaker. Lots aren't tho. Like for example, look at psycho remakes
