Oh you took one step up without turning thats why its uneven, if you take a step and dont turn it advances by 1, and sometimes it can randomly advance and advance by 2 thats why the guide reccomends turn+steps :(

If you take a step like this
X = Patch of Grass

^ Point after Taking Step

That would advance by 2 because you took a step and turned if thats what you mean lol
Hmmm.... I dont see how it could be one off then thats really weird... Because the + from the patches are all even, if you took turn+steps it should be even and if you had 4 pokes thats even O_o
So..... either you miscounted steps lol or maybe the roamer....? Or miscounted flips? Wait thats not possible because it would be even.....
