It takes practice. =) If you really wanna get involved with making stuff, look for a more advanced image program. There are a whole bunch of free ones online =D I'd advise Paint.NET, cause that's what I use (and am in love with) but the learning curve is a bit steep. Either way, I got through it. If you do decide to go that way, I'd be sure to help you if you ever had any problems with it. =) If not, Microsoft Paint is always an alternative~
I'm saying that any background, no matter the color or complexity, can be cut out ;) I use really random pics in my banners- images from calendars, promotional movie posters, trading cards, etc.

You know, if you download a free paint program *cough*paint.NET*cough* you can do a whole lot more than with just MS paint. It's easy to cut out an image from anything ;) It took some practice for me, but I finally have a grasp on my program and can do a whole lot of cool stuff.... If you're interested in knowing more about it, lmk. I'd love for more people to be able to make sweet art for threads.
