Challenge Cup is a battle where you get 6 random pokes set at a certain level based on their toughness. A Gyarados for example is set at 69, whereas Feebas would be set at 98. It more about being able to use what you got than using what you're familiar with. Thus it expands your capabilities it dealing with a variety of pokes, all with random sets.
