    Post college grads come here

I got baited into coming back to Smogon because of a Harsha OverwatchTMZ post. Anyways, for those looking for optimism, I have a bit to offer. 4 years ago, I graduated from a BSc with literally shit prospects except getting punted to graduate school. 2 years of putting my head down and getting...

Serious Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, and Genetics (questions.)

Depends on where you live and what your specialization is but medical school is almost always a sound investment unless you decide to go somewhere like Wayne State and pay 100k a year and get saddled with a 400k debt. I agree with you on law school but only to a point; a lot of the saturation...

Congratulations Chou. Very nice to see someone's success story in a very tough field like economics. Best of luck to you.

Serious Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, and Genetics (questions.)

With respect to industrial jobs in the biomedical, genetics and synthetic organic chemistry field, hirings generally fluctuate depending on the developments and discoveries of several companies. For example, Gilead is hiring in fairly large volumes because of their new Hep C drug which literally...

I'm not trying to attack you or anything and I appreciate the advice. Medicine (and chemistry) has been my biggest passions in life and at the moment I still don't think there's anything I'd give up for the opportunity to pursue it.

I don't have a conviction for teaching it's just one of my interests. It's not something I want to do for all of my life. My passion has been basically chemistry and medicine all my life and I don't intend to stray from the medicine aspect and chemistry at this point isn't practical at all.

Synthetic and Medicinal Organic Chemistry. And yes, teaching English is completely unrelated but I found out through TAing that I really enjoy teaching.

    Post college grads come here

Graduation for me is a kick in the nuts since there exist no job prospects for the degree I'm obtaining in my hometown; I'd have to move down to the States to get a job with a competitive wage and at the moment, since I'm unwilling to move in order to attend medical school at the soonest...

    The Everything NHL Thread

I don't believe that the NHL places teams above each other and explicitly tells referees to play favorites. But it's fair to say that there's a good deal of lobbying on behalf of the teams to push for calls that benefit their team (See Stan Bowman's conversation with the referee supervisor...

Less corruption, more incompetence, inability to cover all four corners of ice at once and swaying of home crowd to a small extent. Lot of teams got fucked by reffing in the first round. Also bottom feeders really? What a fucking joke. Even with the change of divisions, the Canucks have...

Shut up Solace why are you even here. /me pet Rumour is that Vigneault is gone. While being the most successful coach to date in this franchise, it's definitely time to let him go. I'm guessing that the prime candidates are Eakins, Boucher and Ruff though there are rumours of others being...

Love the Sens. Turris and Alfy asking Maclean to call a time out in the last minute.

    1) I bet you didn't watch the series. Watching highlights on NBC or NESN doesn't count. 2) The Sharks had 24 powerplays over the course of the series. The Canucks had 10. The Canucks were lowly ranked on the power play this season while dictating 5v5 play, a reverse from 2011. 3) The Canucks...

The implied bait being making a mountain out of a molehill about one comment I said. Really you should stop. Regarding the Leafs-Bruins game, really liked how Carlyle's line adjustments changed their focus and changed their gameplay to shut the Bruins down while adding goals of their own...

Not really. Knew the Canucks aren't playing as well so it's no surprise we're down 2-0. On the other hand you seemed to take an exception to me cheering the ducks for an OT with really no investment on either side so that's pretty funny I guess.

I agree with you on the point about body armor and the hits. However, I'm not too sure that it's possible to eliminate head contact from the game completely due to size differences, players positioning themselves low and the fact that with bigger hits, there's usually some form of head contact...
