the only good thing about this system is the price drop. they could have made it 50% bigger and heavier and id still buy it

I'm curious and lazy..

Are there any features or hardware capabilities missing in the slim version compared to the regular version?

Got my 60GB for less than that (<3kijiji) so this really doesn't affect me

why are people so obsessed with slim? A slimmer/lighter portable makes sense, but why do I need to a lighter PS3? I'm not carrying it anywhere lol. But the lowered power consumption is a good benefit.

So, people got their price cut. Go their slim version. All that is left is to announce BC and the fans will be pleased (for 30 seconds before obsessing or something else).

Nope. Well, none missing that wasn't missing in the last 40GB and 80GB version anyway. The 80GB PS3 has also dropped to $299 if people want the old style.

Well I always knew a price drop was coming, but I don't regret getting the PS3 when I did, if I had to wait till now to play MGS4 I probably would have killed myself.

If you think that this represents a price drop, then you either live in a non-United States country or cannot use the internet.

As to why you would want it lighter, that is what is more aesthetically pleasing for most people and easier to manage for most people, duh.

Something to note for people buying the Slim is that you cannot install Linux on it. I know that's a minor thing for most people (I only did it so I could watch MKV format videos on VLC media player) but it's something worth noting.

I don't see how this isn't a price drop. The base price from which sales subtracted from was $399.99. Now that's $299.99. By Christmas, you should be able to get a PS3 for $255 + tax in the US with Dell's frequent 15% coupons.

In Canada the best price before this was probably 80GB PS3 for $370 with no tax (12% savings) and NHL 09 (which traded in for about $40) in December 2008 or more recently in May, 80GB PS3 with Uncharted and Hot Shots Golf (traded in for $25 or $35 each) for $350.

MSRPs as of September 09 in the US:
DS Lite: $129.99
DSi: $169.99
PSP-3000: $169.99 (Bundles for $199.99)
Xbox 360 Arcade: $199.99
Wii: $249.99
PSP Go: $249.99
Xbox 360 Elite: $299.99
PlayStation 3: $299.99

And the clearance PS3s. 80GB for $299.99 (who would buy this?) and 160 GB for $399.99 (no seriously who would buy THIS?)

And this is just a random deal, ridiculously easy to get to $200, though you would have to wait a while for bing cashback if not smart enough to already have it set up and all - there is something like this every day. Again, only an idiot or foreigner (I admit, I have no idea what it is like to buy outside of the United States for deals), but PS3s have been variously down to about $280, like you said through places like Dell, over and over - it has nothing to do with me if people are too stupid to use the internet

and still, the price drop that I expect is that the FAT ones will go down to $50 less than whatever the slims are, which will make it so that the slim is only a price drop relative to before the slim existed, which is irrelevant with the biggest advantage going to the fatties!

EDIT: Granted, you can already get the new slim PS2 preordered for $252 with Sears, so that is pretty much equal, but still no drop!
