Resource 1v1 Creative & Underrated Sets

here's my ampharos set, it beats jolly zardx, most zardy (if you can hit thunder, but tbolt only sacrifices one matchup for more accuracy) and most pokemon that let it set up. 252 def / 62 hp lets ampharos set up cotton guard and get 4hkod with outrage, w/o mega evolving. 192 spa and thunder lets you beat primarina, but thunder can be swapped for tbolt for more accuracy and because the power difference doesnt matter in most matchups. dragon pulse 2hkos zardx, allows you to beat zygarde, and hits most other mons neutrally. you can also beat some steel stypes with thunder since they cant kill you before you kill them (magnezone, metagross)

I personally love Amphy. This set is absurd; it can live adamant zard X outrage 100% of the time
that was my original dream but i thought it wasnt feasible while also having any kill power, i really like your set since it still seems very solid.

Ability: Emergency Exit
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Atk / 92 SpD
Adamant Nature

- Rock Tomb/ Rock Slide

I have been flexing this set around main, and it beats zard y 100% of the time and zard x most of the time. Don't have the calcs on me but also eats grens and other frail psychics, shout out to Krytocon for helping with the set

i reach 289 speed with +1, and the most common zardy set has 288 speed. i get outsped by overinvested sets.

Presenting Mienshao.

Mienshao @ Rockium Z
Ability: Reckless
EVs: 252 Atk / 40 Def / 216 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Fake Out
- Stone Edge
- Bulk Up
- High Jump Kick

It hits 330 Spe, so it can outspeed stuff like the Charizards.
Fake Out into Z-Stone Edge kills most bulky Charizard-Mega-X (252 Atk Mienshao Fake Out vs. 252 HP / 84 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 37-44 (10.2 - 12.2%) -- possible 9HKO, 252 Atk Mienshao Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 84 Def Charizard-Mega-X: 324-382 (90 - 106.1%) -- 37.5% chance to OHKO) and is a guaranteed win against Charizard-Mega-Y.

It needs a bit of prediction against Gyarados-Mega, but only loses if Gyarados-Mega mega-evolves on the exact turn that Mienshao uses Continental Crush. It outspeeds +1 Gyarados-Mega with less than 84 Spe investment, and has the following calcs:

-1 252 Atk Mienshao Fake Out vs. 252 HP / 180 Def Gyarados: 28-34 (7.1 - 8.6%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 Atk Mienshao Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 252 HP / 180 Def Gyarados: 376-444 (95.4 - 112.6%) -- 75% chance to OHKO
252 Atk Reckless Mienshao High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 180 Def Gyarados-Mega: 390-462 (98.9 - 117.2%) -- 93.8% chance to OHKO

252+ Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. +1 0 HP / 40 Def Mienshao: 133-157 (49 - 57.9%) -- 97.7% chance to 2HKO
+1 252+ Atk Gyarados Waterfall vs. +1 0 HP / 40 Def Mienshao: 198-234 (73 - 86.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

However, it needs a bit of prediction. The optimal play is to first use Fake Out, and then Bulk Up. If the opposing Gyarados still hasn't mega-evolved, the match goes to prediction. If they mega-evolve their Gyarados by then, they lose to High Jump Kick. Use High Jump Kick on T3 if you think they'll mega-evolve; otherwise, use Continental Crush.

It also beats non-Protect / Inner Focus Dragonite.

252 Atk Mienshao Fake Out vs. 192 HP / 28 Def Multiscale Dragonite: 22-26 (5.9 - 7%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 Atk Mienshao Continental Crush (180 BP) vs. 192 HP / 28 Def Dragonite: 386-456 (104 - 122.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252+ Atk Dragonite Extreme Speed vs. 0 HP / 40 Def Mienshao: 128-151 (47.2 - 55.7%) -- 76.6% chance to 2HKO

The only S-tier Mienshao cannot defeat is Magearna, but that isn't particularly surprising.

It also beats:

Non-Scarf Porygon-Z: 252 Atk Reckless Mienshao High Jump Kick vs. 252 HP / 252 Def Porygon-Z: 492-578 (131.5 - 154.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Non-Scarf Victini: 252 Atk Mienshao Fake Out vs. 252 HP / 0 Def Victini: 43-51 (10.6 - 12.6%) -- possible 8HKO, 252 Atk Mienshao Continental

For the longest time I had been working on a set for this mon. I had been running around with scarf and groundium z but that does seem much better. only question, would groundium z beat magerna?

If it got Earthquake, it would've.

252 Atk Mienshao Fake Out vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 19-23 (5.2 - 6.3%) -- possibly the worst move ever
252 Atk Mienshao Tectonic Rage (160 BP) vs. 248 HP / 0 Def Magearna: 302-356 (83.1 - 98%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

Together, it's a 25% chance to KO.

If you run Adamant, though, the story changes. It becomes an 81.3% chance to OHKO.

(Against the most popular Magearna set, that is. Less bulky ones might be doable.)

most popular magearna would be bold magearna, so the calc would actually remain the 25% chance to KO if you ran adamant mienshao vs bold magearna

I don't play that much 1v1, but I thought I'd throw this in.
That second calc is inaccurate, the damage is set to 380 because after the first charge is a z, 2 other mons can be on the team for certain things >.<.

48+ Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Outrage vs. 188 HP / 0 Def Muk-Alola: 306-360 (76.8 - 90.4%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
Literally NOBODY uses this set but here for the people that think this matters: 252+ Atk Tough Claws Charizard-Mega-X Outrage vs. 188 HP / 0 Def Muk-Alola: 355-418 (89.1 - 105%) -- 31.3% chance to OHKO
252+ SpA Charizard-Mega-Y Fire Blast vs. 188 HP / 68 SpD Muk-Alola in Sun: 322-379 (80.9 - 95.2%) -- guaranteed 2HKO (just tell them to not run blast burn)
So yeah it beats charizards. (assuming that they don't just KNOW you're rockium z and willo you [you happy, cabb?] I promise, nobody does that)

252+ Atk Muk-Alola Gunk Shot vs. +1 248 HP / 120 Def Tapu Lele through Reflect: 135-160 (39.3 - 46.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
0+ SpA Tapu Lele Moonblast vs. 188 HP / 68 SpD Muk-Alola: 132-156 (33.1 - 39.1%) -- 99.9% chance to 3HKO
Also beats lele

And other fairies. I trust you guys are smart enough to understand important matchups, like whimsi and stuff. this isn't the most sound mon in terms of like actual rankings, but by god does it bait charizard. also beats aegislash. Just like outpredict kids.

I genuinely forgot I haven't posted anything on this thread yet, so here's an underrated spread, by the way, you can post stuff that isn't sm 1v1, you know, as long as it's in the forum:

:sm/whimsicott:
Whimsicott @ Babiri Berry
Ability: Prankster
EVs: 48 HP / 252 Def / 208 Spe
Timid Nature
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Protect
- Moonblast / Taunt

Pretty much meant to beat, you know, Mega Metagross. Everything else is standard.

2v2 Doubles:

:sm/chansey:
Chansey @ Eviolite
Ability: Serene Grace
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 Spe
Bold Nature
- Ally Switch / Protect
- Charm
- Recover
- Seismic Toss / Toxic

This is more of an underrated set. I personally think that Chansey is quite an underrated mon in 2v2, as it has great potential to be a special wall in a tier which is more specially based. Would love to see this mon on builds that have answers to its frailties.

AAA 1v1:

:sm/cresselia:
Cresselia @ Lum Berry / Leftovers
Ability: Truant
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SpA
Bold / Modest Nature
- Protect
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power [Steel]
- Skill Swap

This should probably be banned, but as long as it's allowed, imma spam it, ok? Essentially you skill swap truant and then likely win. Cress, being the unkillable mon that it is, just beats most stuff. HP Steel to not get “Walled”.

Sooner or later, maybe after classic, I might post some old gen stuff. Cya frens!

Accelgor @ Choice Specs
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Me First
- Bug Buzz
- Energy Ball
- Sludge Bomb

This is the greatest thing I have ever made, ever. You ever wanted to bait genesect so hard that your opponent would just forfeit the rest of the series? This bad boi beats non-scarfed genesect with flamethrower. All you do is click "Me First" and profit. If you wanna beat scarfed genesect, just use
Accelgor @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Sticky Hold
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
- Me First
- Bug Buzz
- Energy Ball
- Sludge Bomb

You also beat serp and gastrodon and Swampert and fini and other stuff
252+ SpA Choice Specs Accelgor Energy Ball vs. 252 HP / 244 SpD Swampert-Mega: 404-476 (100 - 117.8%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Accelgor Energy Ball vs. 248 HP / 252+ SpD Gastrodon: 440-520 (103.5 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Accelgor Bug Buzz vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Serperior: 420-494 (118.6 - 139.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Accelgor Flamethrower vs. 52 HP / 0 SpD Genesect: 564-664 (190.5 - 224.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO (Calc to reflect if accelgor was scarfed, not specs, and used Me First, which multiplies power by 1.5)
252+ SpA Choice Specs Accelgor Sludge Bomb vs. 248 HP / 40+ SpD Tapu Fini: 190-224 (55.3 - 65.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery

Edit: haters have decided to inform me that you could use hp fire. Does that beat naganadel (assuming they use draco)? No. It does not. Will that make your opponent forfeit the series? No. It will not.

And now we have my Physical Psychium Victini's
This is an actual legitimate set you too can try in your very own ladder games!
Plz support Eriey's Physical Psychium Victini for Main Set Movement by using them
The main purpose of this is to beat Kommo-o, Gardevoir, and Tapu Lele all at the same time.
Both can also beat both Finis (if you know the set), beat Volcarona (although Light Screen is technically a 50/50 if they know you're Light Screen for some reason), and 50/50 Aegislash (Shattered Psyche doesn't proc King's Shield), and Magnezone decently (20% flinch, Zippity Zappity your win chances are halvedity)
It is important to note that both lose to Bulky (Impish) Earthquake Mega Metagross (same reliability as Choice Scarf Victini, minus Substitute)
Magic Coat (Victini) @ Psychium Z
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 144 HP / 152 Atk / 12 Def / 48 SpD / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature
- V-create
- Zen Headbutt
- Bolt Strike
- Magic Coat
Tanks Mega Lop FakePact and Two Specs Gren Dark Pulses, Smeargle speed, rest in attack
Magic Coat can beat Specs Greninja, Volcarona, Scarf PZ/If they attack turn one with Normalium

Light Screen (Victini) @ Psychium Z
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 164 HP / 132 Atk / 60 SpD / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature
- V-create
- Zen Headbutt
- Bolt Strike
- Light Screen
Tanks Fake Pact, denies Torrent from Primarina with Bolt Strike, Smeargle Speed, rest in Special Defense
Light Screen can beat Heatran and Primarina unless they know your set, know how to play against your set, have sub, win the 50/50, and don't get flinched

This brings it closer to band except it still kills Kommo-o and the other things common between Coat and Screen (50/50 Aegislash, Waterium Fini)
Magic Coat is more interesting though so use that if you like to flex on these Specs Greninja-using nerds
Swap between Magic Coat and Light Screen randomly against Sub Torrent Gren users to make them guess whether to Sub for Coat or Attack Immediately for Screen!
This one below isn't actually a new set it's just an optimized Special Psychium
Victini @ Psychium Z
Ability: Victory Star
EVs: 80 HP / 248 Def / 160 SpA / 20 Spe
Modest Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Psychic
- Blue Flare
- Glaciate
- Will-O-Wisp
takes golem, special flyinium dnite, magnezone speed, rest in spa for dnite and mmeta
do keep in mind that special Tini cannot beat Gardevoir and Lele, but August usage rates show that hecking Searing Shot was more popular than Psychium Z come on guys I believe in you
Hide Box-ception
