Compared to Booster Energy (Attack), Assault Vest allows Iron Hands to flip the matchup on its usual checks, such as being able to survive most Primarina's and Choice Specs Iron Valiant's Moonblasts and threaten them back with an OHKO. While Iron Hands is able to use its dual STABs to super effectively target Pokemon like Volcanion and Manaphy anyway, Assault Vest also helps Iron Hands secure more dubious matchups from strong special attackers it can't initially OHKO such as Raging Bolt and Walking Wake. The given EVs allow Iron Hands to survive two Adamant Choice Band Flower Tricks from Meowscarada so you can use Heavy Slam to guarantee the matchup, bulk two Special Attack Booster Energy Raging Bolt Draco Meteors and Timid Special Attack Booster Walking Wake’s Hydro Pump into Draco Meteor, and survive a max special attack Choice Specs Iron Valiant's Moonblast. Iron Valiant appreciates partners that cover its weaknesses to more tricky Psychic types like Metagross and Iron Crown as well as Ground types such as Ursaluna, so Pokemon like Corviknight, Volcanion, and Manaphy work as great teammates.
