Rules On Submitting Samples + This Thread.

1. Sample team submissions without descriptions will be deleted on the spot. This is not meant to be a team dump, we're looking for strictly the best, most well-rounded teams that can be used to at least moderate success by just about anyone. If you aren't willing to tell us what the team does, then we won't even consider it for a sample team. This includes explaining EV spreads, move selection, what can be swapped around, metagame coverage, etc. There is an example below of a good explanation, and you can also take a look at the current accepted submissions in this thread. As a courtesy, remember to include a Pokepaste of the team in your submission.
2. This thread is to be used both for sample team submissions and sample team critiques, but make sure to keep things civil. Meaningless posts, mean spirited discourse, and one liners will be deleted. We also encourage discussion in both the 1v1 room on PS! and the 1v1 Discord server.

Team Description: The team is built around CB Rhyperior. CB Rhyperior serves as a physical nuke to remove threats such as Physical Hoopa-U variants, Roaring Moon and Chien-Pao as well as beating common special attackers such as Zapdos and Skeledirge. It is EV'd to live a Choice Specs Porygon-Z Hyper Beam on the Special and Earthquake from Choice Band LandoT on the physical side. The speed was chosen to outspeed no speed variants of Ursaluna and Iron Hands. Rhyperior can struggle to get past Grass and Water types which is why Volcanion was chosen as its first partner for its ability to take care of Ogerpon-Wellspring, Primarina, Iron Valiant, Meowscarada and with the LO set that was chosen it also beats Iron Crown. It is EV'd to outspeed max speed Ogerpon after a Flame Charge while living a from b. What was now left for the team to beat was opposing Volcanion and a measure vs Regidrago aswell as a way to beat some Manaphy variants and a positive matchup vs most Urshifu variants which is why Max Speed Choice Specs Regidrago was chosen as the last mon for the team. For this the spread from the setcomp was chosen.
Usage Tips: Vs Regidrago you need to identify its set correctly on preview. Scarf and Band variants fail to kill Rhyperior before it kills them whereas vs Specs and Haban variants forcing your speed tie is your best option.

Samples are now open again! Due to the many meta changes we had to do some extra collecting and some edits but they're finally done and already outdated because new mons lol but here you go! Thank you to everyone who submitted and helped collect teams. We'll also be trying to update these on a more regular basis until the meta calms down to try and keep up as much as possible.

Also for those of you who haven't noticed we added a sample wishlist of mons we would like to see submitted to increase representation and versatility among our samples. I'll be updating it as we go but for now it is:

Alright, big update, we're revamping the sample submissions and voting systems (also we have new art by the talented Lyci)!

First, submissions. We are no longer accepting submissions through a form. We are instead returning to submissions being through a thread! We are doing it very similarly to how it was done during generation eight, if you are interested here is that thread. With this post, we will unlock this thread, and it will be open to both submissions and critique on those submissions. Remember to be civil. We also have a new format to follow, make sure to use it when submitting teams.

We will also be more strict going forward about sample descriptions. Remember that sample teams are used a lot by people who are new to the metagame and potentially even competitive Pokémon itself. We decided to split it up into two categories: Team Description, where you can talk about the EVs, items, stuff like that, and Usage Tips, where you can talk about the more unintuitive matchups for both clicking and playing. We have an example of a good description above, we will be ignoring submissions without a good description.

Lastly, we will now be voting on samples every two months (length of time subject to change). We will wipe the voting slate clean, only keeping the samples that were recently submitted, the submissions that were close to becoming a sample, and the submissions that are currently samples, and the VR Council will be voting from scratch to help deal with outdated samples. We are holding our first voting slate from March 2nd to March 9th.

Iron Crown: Helps with pecharunt, most primarina sets, also fighting mons but can struggle with urshifu dark which sylveon takes care of, whimsicott, and other fairies.

Sylveon: Helps as a drago counter, and mostly dragon counter + fighting counter for mons like Urshifu that can give this team a bit of trouble, helps with custap mons, chien pao, raging bolt, roaring moon, great tusk, whimsicott, ninetales-alola, sableye, and mostly other darks.

Haxorus: Helps with custap mons, goodra-hisui, raging bolt, volcarona, volcanion, meowscarada, chien pao, and mostly just steels.

Usage Tips: I've listed most of the uses in Team Description and I think everything is clear now.

EV / Nature Explanations:
Iron Crown: 252 speed with timid nature helps it outspeed alot of mons like urshifu-rapid-strike and able to kill it after a calm mind, haxorus, gliscor, kyurem and alot more. 76 hp and 96 special defense helps it live alot of pokemon's hits along with the last 84 special attack which is enough for it to take kills after calm mind or iron defense setup with stored power.

Sylveon: Sylveons has 192 hp because thats enough for it to tank the special attackers that it needs to beat and 184 defense helps it tank physical attackers more consistantly. The last 132 points is put into special attack along with modest nature to be able to do enough damage to kill the opposing pokemons.

Haxorus: Simple spread of max attack and speed with adamant for maximum damage output along with band.

can you please edit in what each mons EVs / Natures are for? It is more relevant for the mons with complicated EV spreads, just saying like max speed max atk for example is fine. also specify why you chose a certain nature if it's relevant.

also try to explain how a mons set works so someone foreign to 1v1 could pick it up. for example, iron crown using iron defense / calm mind to tank hits, boosting its spa with weakness policy and firing back with a +2 attack. another example is goodra hisui weakening foes spdef with acid spray before KOing with its other attacks.

as for usage tips, maybe point out some bad matchups / matchups where setguessing is required and how you can counterplay these matchups.

p.s. going into depth on your building process is a net positive for your submission. even if it doesn't make the cut, it allows us to provide better feedback on how to improve the team.

Team Description: Ursaluna is ev'd to win vs all regidragos and revenge kill with avalanche, besides that it beats normal ursaluna stuff like raging bolt and landorus and volcarona and stuff

Blaziken is for steels and grasses and ice types and really basically anything it can hit with reversal, just max max not ev'd for anything
thundurus is for ogerpon/pecharunt/primarina and waters too another max max not ev'd for anything besides max speed for ogerpon and iron moth

Edit: got rid of thundurus for meowscarada to beat donphan and changed evs on blaziken for custap avalugg

Usage Tips: **adamant scarf rapid strike has a 50% chance to 3/0 as well but thats not real**

Notes: Tom Numbers made a daring claim during the drago suspect that you could not make a team without a DFS or water hence the name of the team

Hoopa-Unbound is a really good pokemon in the meta rn, you win against a lot of top threat like iron crown/volcanion/metagross/dragapult/pecharunt/primarina(depend if the primarina is really bulky or had a lot of speed). Custap berry is not the most used item on hoopa so it really surprises your oponnent and make you win against a lot of poke.I play it with a lot of def(104hp/192def)to be tanky enough against phsical attacker

Donphan can beat a lot top tier poke and help hoopa to beat strong phisical attacker like roaring moon/garchomp/landorus-T/Iron Hand/iron vaillant
/meowscara/sneasler and beat most of the electric type of the tier.Max atk for poke like roaring moon/hoopa/primarina and I play a little bit of speed(24) to out speed iron hand/ursaluna and I put all the ev left in spedef(232) to tank an Tachyon Cutter at +2
+2 0 SpA Iron Crown Tachyon Cutter (2 hits) vs. 0 HP / 232 SpD Donphan: 282-332 (87.8 - 103.4%) -- approx. 18.8% chance to OHKO
I like to play Donphan with a lot of speed to outspeed primarina or sylveon but i feel like when you play band you dont really need to outspeed.

primarina is here to help the team to work he counter ninetail-alola//Ursaluna/Regidrago/scissor and most of the dragon/fire and ground type. primarina has a lot of invest in hp and def(144hp/216def) to have a better matchup against phiscal attacker like scissor and metagross
and you still need a lot of spe atk to OHKO Iron Hand.

Beginner tips:

for a beginner ninetails is really hard to beat but if you play well primarina you should win(start with encore because encore cannot be encored and then slow the speed of ninetails with icy wind) And same thing with Iron crown you encore t1 because most of the time they are gonna calm mind.

Donphan is really easy to play just hit hard

Hoopa you need to know what is gonna KO you and endure to tank the hit and then the custap berry make you hit before your oponnent
but you only endure if you need to hit before your oponent

Donphan help hoopa to beat strong physical attacker like roaring moon/garchomp/landorus-T/Iron Hand/iron vaillant/ninetail-alola/sneasler and beat most of the electric type of the tier.Max atk for poke like roaring moon/primarina and I put all the ev left in spedef and a little bit into def to tank an Tachyon Cutter at +2 and to tank 2 moonblast from iron vaillant with the encore/disable set

Primarina is here to help the team to work, he counters /Ursaluna/Regidrago/scissor/iron hand and most of the dragon/fire and ground type. primarina has a lot of invest in hp and def(132hp/172def) to have a better matchup against physical attacker like metagross/
urshifu band/donphan and a lot in speed(176)to outspeed fast ursaluna and donphan and metagross with no investment in spe.
chilling water is for donphan and psyshic noise agaisnt subtitute mon or mon that need to heel like corviknight.

Beginner tips:
to beat ninetails you have to play donphan and then you head smash t1 and gunk shot t2

tips:
if you want to beat meowscarada scarf and liligant scarf you need to put 232 in def instead of spedef for donphan to tank triple axel but its very rarely played
if you want to beat custap berry donphan you need to play life orb or another item and play aqua jet instead of psyshic noise
Trick on hoopa is really good and help you agaisnt setup pokemon.

One of the biggest problem with this team is agaisnt bulcky grass type ,you dont have anithing that resist grass and no stab poison/ice/bug/flying/fire but i feel like in general grass type are not very good or bulcky, but yeah something like zarude,rillaboom or shaymin can be very problematic with the right set.

Hello Everyone, wanted to post some teams which are really worth to use if you are a rookie or not. In Usage tips I have explained to whom you might get cteamed or how you can face other mons and you have a possibility to win.

(1) Team Name: Easy To Use

Team Description: Nothing much to explan about evs on meow and haxorus... Moves what are important in these sets to not get 3-0d:-first impression helps against roaring moon, chien pao, darkrai and meowscarada. Close Combat always better than earthquake on haxorus probably avoiding balloons like registeel? Talking about skeledirge its defense + hp ev spread helps to survive oger-w's 1 offensive ivy cudgel and punish them because of not having spiky shield.
Spa is a bit higher than the set given in compendium just to ensure wins vs a bit bulky iron hands... will edit whatever I am missing here right now. Sorry

Usage Tips: Beware of rhyperior and only win condition is meowscarada by predicting ur opponent's set whether its custap or av or band. Skeledirge is the only best counter vs defensive pecha, maranga loses by meow so basically again set guess. Walking Wake booster speed is the only problem and only way to deal it is by cteaming it with scarf meowscarada lol.

(2) Team Name: Fairy + 2 Steel

Team Description: A bit strategical or you could say LURING. Iron Valiant band will ensure to win against all steels, all 4x weak mons like garchomp, landorus (both). Trick is preferred such that we don't get pp stalled by corviknight.

CORVIKNIGHT's one of my favourite set I am using since WC and it is super annoying to deal trust me. Ok so what it defeats and how does it work? Lures Volcanion any set, PP stalls zapdos, walking wake booster speed (don't forget u have valiant for spa booster walking wake), Primarina, Iron Crown, Hoopa (Scarf, Av, Custap), Cresselia and a lot of Special attackers.

Here are the calc:-
252+ SpA Volcanion Overheat vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Occa Berry Corviknight: 186-220 (46.5 - 55%) -- guaranteed OHKO
252+ SpA Volcanion Steam Eruption vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Corviknight: 159-187 (39.7 - 46.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO
I think you should always prefer to go roost turn 1 and then agility turn 2 vs volcanion. Also vs Zapdos try to get 2 agility after healing to ensure if u get para'd incase u ensure to win and don't lose to hax.

Last but not the least Heatran who is ensuring to win the matchup vs raging bolt (This team kind of lures raging bolt as well after seeing corvi and heatran weak to it and a 50-50 vs Iron Valiant disable encore), lunge for hoopa-u (BASICALLY hoopa won't get the chance to even breath in front of this team LOL), Volcarona, Darkrai etc.

Usage Tips:- If somebody pops with Volcanion Life Orb and use steam eruption instead of overheat, you basically got cteamed so just abuse them and move on (JK). LO has low chances of usage because av and balloon are just better but if u face it u can only win by dodging 2 overheat's vs corvi. Iron Hands is a problem as well.

(3) Team Name: Mentality x Kala

Team Description: Walking Wake booster speed to outspeed scarf haxorus, disable encore valiant, dragapult and walking wake mirror and rest of the basic work walking wake can usually do.

Annihilape banded is just amazing... hp + spd is probably to survive the custap primarina set (compendium) in case u don't get psn after they endure, u survive walking wake hurricane/draco and raging bolt draco as well, rest in attack. Earthquake is for iron hands because sometimes it is evd for sneasler at 1% reversal 200bp liechi set.

Sneasler liechi was the best...is the best and will remain the best. Taunt is preferred to fight against valiant (Gunak Shot turn 1, taunt turn 2 ggs). There's nothing else for me to explain ig.

Walking wake is a great mon against most of the ground type and he beat raging bolt(if not habban berry),iron crown.I use the set with snarl to win against life orb spectrier and because I like this set.

In general the team is solid but the main weakness is the lack of ghost resistance .

Team Description: Hoopa-U checks fast strong attackers that are easily susceptible to a surprise custap with a strong attack. Ursuluna checks similar mons but instead of using a custap berry it relies on its choice band to deal a ton of dmg. Volcarona deals with more gimmicky mons like corv, pressure stall zap, and more defensive ones.

evs: Hoopa: hp and def to live Waterpon Play Rought and speed to outspeed Donphan. The rest are in attack for obvious reasons. Ursaluna: The def is to live a cb Lando-T Hammer Arm, the Spdef is to live a Lorb Sylveron Hyper Beam. 4 speeds evs to outspeed other Ursalunas and the rest are dumped in attack. Volcarona: Speed is for max speed Hoopa-U with the Def, Hp, and Spdef, to live most of its attacks. The rest are dumped into SpAt.

moves: Hoopa-U: Psychic Noise for Reversal Sneasler-H but can be exchanged for Psychic or Psyshock. Hyperspace Furie as a strong stab move and to bypass sub mons and pressure stall mons. Gunk Shot is to hit fairies such as Sylveon or Whimsicott. Endure is to help activate Custap berry. Ursaluna: Earthquake to hits mons such as Raging Bolt or Metagross. Giga Impact is a strong stab move which can grab a lot of OHKOs. Avalanche for Lando-T or Garchomp, and finally Gunk Shot is to hit fairies such as Sylveon and Whimsicott. Volcarona: Quiver Dance is a strong boosting move. Overheat for a strong stab attack to grab easy OHKOs on stuff like Metagross and Bug Buzz is for Mon like sub Whimsicott. this roaring moon set should do almost everything chomp does for this team while covering hoopa / ogerpon-w better and it patches up cress / manaphy 3-0s. I believe the benchmarks are 252+ hoopa-u focus blast (knock -> outrage always wins) and band hoodra outrage (outrage and pray they aren't counter)

- you should also use knock off against manaphy on turn 1 so you don't lose to choice specs variants. if they are stall, you can taunt and dragon dance up
- use dragon dance and then taunt against potential sub + leech seed pokemon like ogerpon-w and serperior. once they are taunted you are free to KO them
- use outrage against hisuian goodra, if they are counter you will lose but otherwise you should tank their attack and 2HKO

Team Description: Chien Pao checks all mons that have low defense's. Iron Valliant makes many mons to not use their best attack, because of encore + disable. Iron Crown is Good in many scenarios with it boosting its defenses against non setup mons.

Evs: Chien pao has its usual max speed max attack ev spread, nothing to say, its meant to ohko targets not bulk attacks. Iron valliant has physical bulk so it survives hoopa-unbound gunk shot (if it doesnt poison) and its speed is such that it outspeeds all base 135 speed mons. Iron Crown is just standard fast weakness policy(it doesnt help if it would survive like volcanion over heat,because of it cant do anything back)

Moves: Chien Pao has endure weakness policy so it wins many fairy types such as primarina and sylveon. it becomes so strong if it gets hit super effectively that giga impact almost ohko’s everything.Throat chop can be exchanged to sacred sword,i personally like it more because there is many fightning pokemons. Iron valliant has spirit break to shut down physical attackers can be exchanged to moonblast but spirit breaks lowers special attack and with encore + disable damage isn’t the thing.Iron crown has both iron defense and calm mind so it can tank hits if it moves first.

Tips: dont use chien pao if your opponent has priority moves and ohko’s it,dont worry to use it against sylveon and endure, it probably goes for hyper beam/hyper voice then just giga impact.
