Resource 1v1 Scarlet and Violet Viability Rankings

Gouging often runs substitute, so you have to 5050 leech seed on sub and cotton guard on blitz, but even if you do cotton guard on blitz its not a favorable roll
252+ Atk Protosynthesis Gouging Fire Flare Blitz vs. +3 252 HP / 252+ Def Whimsicott: 168-198 (51.8 - 61.1%) -- 93.4% chance to 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
if you click protect for extra lefties healing its still a 49.22% chance to KO (and gouging can ddance on that turn), and If you click cotton guard twice you have worse odds, so you need to run sitrus berry to win this consistently.
btw your set has the wrong hp stat for leftovers subtect, so you dont get the last substitute (you only stall 13 turns instead of 15). 248 hp should do it tho

Isnt it a pp stall if you cotton as they sub?

On both Valiant replays, turn 7 protect is a choke, you always toxic there

I think my post lacked replays exemplifying Whimsicott beating stuff it is not supposed to, so here´s a few replays:

Yeah tbf UR -> B- is a bit ambitious, but surely Gliscor is at least worth D to start with? I'm baffled that it has never even been nominated.
Amd Whimsicott is not worth more than B imo. Losing to Dark, Grass, Taunt, and Psychic Noise is a bit unfortunate.

It beats darks more than you think

Chien-Pao should usually be clicking Ice Shard in this matchup.

It beats trick sets yes because they don’t have a great way of hitting you, but it does lose to Encore + Disable.

Whimsicott is usually fine here but if you don’t run taunt, you risk getting Taunted. They also sometimes run Mental Herb, so this isn’t reliable at all.

You need a double protect. You also specifically need Leftovers, which prevents you from running a resist berry.

If you’re running Gunk Shot with no other poison move and also not running Taunt, yes, but you’re likely gonna be running two poison moves here or Taunt over the second poison move for the encore + disable iron valiant matchup.

That doesn't seem quite right

:ogerpon-wellspring: from S- to A+ I will say it if no one will it's over rated

My reason is that it's getting counter by most Pokemon :Goodra-Hisui: :Pecharunt: :Raging Bolt:
:Meowscarada: :Regidrago: :Gouging Fire:
Just to name a few, ofcourse I am not ignoring it's good against some good mons that's why I just want to drop it to A+

And main reason it's not in my Heart

:Landorus: in C+ are you kidding me this is bull shit this is the reason I am making this

It should be in B+ I would place it higher ngl

Reasoning it hard counter so many mon it have two main set specs and scarf both have it's uses the move it use are same but it's like master of one thing and its best at it it counter so many mon like :Gouging Fire: anything with stell except bird (corvi) :ogerpon wellspring: :Pecharunt: :Primarina: :Ursaluna: :Raging Bolt: :Iron Crown:

And I think entire C+ tier if used correctly if you can't win this it's a skill issue

Elephant aka :Donphan: shoud be in -A or A because of hear ban it's just got better it have so many sets custab banned expert belt to name a few

Reasoning sudden rise of new mon like :Primarina: :Gouging Fire:

It has counter for more mons like :Metagross: :Urshifu: :Goodra-Hisui: :Landorus-Therian: :ursaluna: :iron hands:

AND it's a god damn elephant

I hate to say but :Porygon2: shoud be B-

Again a solid mon with a lot of resources

Reasoning with its massive support moves like electric impulse and access to Eviolite it becomes a brick wall which is hard to break most wall suck but it can recover and is normal type so only weakness is fighting I just think it's good against special attacker and and some physical attacker depending of the set it should be placed in B-

:Maushold: in D is just a crime it's a god damn mouse (hello RAT!!)

Its really good it had a good win rate in lt if I remember correctly

It has power of family and shit

Reasoning it has a good speed so and a broken move not to mention it gets encore for anything trying to set up can defeat :Ogerpon-Wellspring: :Gouging Fire: :Donphan: etc mostly anything that is not stell and fast but frail

I can't decide where to put it but anything higher than D and -C

:Empoleon: is D too no way it should be higher atleast C+ it's another mon which is used less but do get a good amount of use by high ladder

This it for now this was my first time doing this
Spaceship!!!!

Primarina S- to S: alongside gouging this pokemon is one of the most customizable ever and has a lot of ambiguity when it comes to set, its a must prepare pokemon, it doesn't have much weaknesses, and all of them are covered my good mons so it fits so easily in cores. its true that it doesn't autowin matchups as much as drago but its actually better cause 1) its consistent and doesn't sacrifice much MUs by flexing items, 2) easy glue, 3) drago counters are usually v good Pokemon so they're harder to counter, 4) its not as linear as drago. this pokemon is as good as gouging.

Val A+ to A: Lowkey v overrated. It's a good mon don't get me wrong but it's not up there with the other guys. on encore disable sets low sweep v moonblast v spirit break beat different Pokemon which is lowkey annoying for valiant. its checks are actually everywhere due the metagame. mostly noting here sylveon, prim, pech, crown, dirge, gross which are all great Pokemon with really good odds to win, even its non-linearity can't beat them. It also sacrifices alot between sets unlike other A+ mons.

skeledirge a to a-: i don't see a reason to bump that pokemon up, one linear and hard to fit on teams. It's good but u sacrifice a lot betw custap, air balloon and whateverelse u want to run. it just folds to every good pokemon drago, gouging, hoopa-u, prim, bolt, can lose to wellspring and hoodra and luna. it's not as good and splashable as meow and shifu.

shifu rapid-strike a- to a: as good as urshifu single strike tbh. great set variability, important offensive typing, beat different things than single strike. has good niche specially with fires being lowkey important. it can also technically tech fairy types so they're not v safe.

volcarona a- to a: probably best fire type after gouging tbh. amazing offensive typing ontop of defensive bulk. qd+2 atk+flex slot is v good and just beats the top mons. it can also tech primarina so well. v splashable as fire-type, good odds vs hoodra, hoopau, crown, valiant, can run pasho for wellspring and prim, some pech, some bolt, corvik, gross, can run endure for meowscarada, cress, ninetales-a. well it has to decide betw like endure and giga drain or w/e for primarina but its splashable, beats a lot of top pokemon and way better than everything in a-

not gonna comment on everything else cause i think it needs time spec to see what happens to gouging. i can see cress going to a too amulet sp is a v good set alongside scarf setguess but ye not very adamant about that ranking.

some lumi vr stuff haii

:primarina: Primarina from S- to S
Of course I was known as the Gouging Fire + Primarina spammer, so this might be me having some spam this mon bias, but Primarina is so easy to splash on so many teams. It's basically the strongest glue mon that I have ever seen, especially with Weakness Policy and stuff. It also just never has a really bad matchup against things, but it also can't flip bad matchups easily. So yeah, probably what I see as the best somewhat healthy mon in the tier right now.

:iron valiant: Iron Valiant from A+ to S-
It's funny that I'm posting this right after DEG posted his VR post advocating for Iron Valiant to fall, but Valiant is another example of an incredibly splashy glue mon. While it may not be as good at being a glue mon as Primarina, it's still incredibly good and still has an incredibly good matchup spread, especially with Low Kick having good odds against Gouging Fire. If you look at this mon as just a mon that uses the Speed Booster Encore + Disable sets though, it feels like you're missing out on a lot. Choice Band and Choice Specs sets are really good, Defense Booster is an interesting option. Substitute + Reversal with Attack Booster is also really good. Defensive Attack Booster and Special Attack Booster sets also are incredibly strong. There's such a massive amounts of things you can do with this Pokemon, and with there not being as many good Fairy-types right now, it just seems stronger than all the other A+ Pokemon to me.

:metagross: Metagross from A to A+
Metagross is tied (with Iron Crown fwiw...) for being the best Steel-type in the tier in my eyes. I think this Pokemon just isn't seeing enough experimentation with everyone using Assault Vest and sometimes Weakness Policy. Air Balloon and Occa Berry sets are still really good, I like Choice Scarf and Choice Band sets a lot as well. I want to bring up Choice Scarf and Air Balloon specifically in this list, as they both have incredibly good matchups against things that are traditionally seen as Metagross answers. Choice Scarf + Trick is really good into Corviknight and Iron Crown, which basically allows Metagross to beat all the common Steel-types in the tier while retaining a pretty good matchup spread all-round. Air Balloon is obviously for Ground-types, and I used an Iron Defense + Body Press set with Air Balloon earlier in PL to success.

:skeledirge: Skeledirge from A to A-
I ran Kee Berry Skeledirge in finals and it lured a Gouging Fire. That was fun. Outside of that it loses to Gouging Fire, Primarina, and Regidrago. It just sadly is not very good right now. DEG made some good points about it. Read his post.

:urshifu-rapid-strike: Urshifu-R from A- to A
Read DEG's post.

:volcarona: Volcarona from A- to A.
Read DEG's post lol...

:dragapult: Dragapult from B+ to A-
Dragapult is the fastest Dragon-type in the tier. It also has a lot more tools than people are currently using on it, being that it can run Weakness Policy (or Sitrus Berry) + Will-O-Wisp sets well, has access to Disable, and more. It's an incredibly fast Dragon in a metagame in which Dragon-types are really strong. That niche is quite strong right now.

:tyranitar: Tyranitar from B to A-
Holy fuck it's a Tyranitar why is it in B this is actually a crime. This Pokemon is so incredibly underrated right now. I've seen people running Choice Band, but I genuinely think it might be one of its worst sets. Defensive Weakness Policy is really good right now and I've used this thing a few times throughout PL to good results. Please use this mon more, and please raise where it is ranked. The amount of things you can do with this Pokemon is actually insane, we really need it to be used tho.

:walking wake: Walking Wake from B to B+
Walking Wake from B to B-. Again this is a fast Dragon-type thing. Special Attack Booster is pretty good right now. Choice Specs is also pretty good. Haban Berry is actually quite good on this Pokemon (you can quite literally run max max with jet on it if you really wanted and it beats things LOL), especially with its defensive stats not being too bad. I just think Fast Dragon-types are underrated in the current VR, especially with how good the less speedy Dragon-types (like Gouging Fire, Regidrago, and Raging Bolt) are right now.

gonna do a few rapid fire ones.

:scizor: Scizor from B- to B
This Pokemon actually has a pretty good matchup spread but it tends to be pretty unintuitive. I used a bit of it this PL because delemon told me to and was pleasantly surprised with the matchups it was winning. It is sort of awkward to build with, but I do think that B is a more fair place for it than B- is.

:garchomp: Garchomp from B- to B+
Band + Bulky Life Orb gives this thing an unexpectedly good matchup spread. Bulkier Haban sets are also really good on this. It's Garchomp, it still hits hard. Swords Dance + Scale Shot with its typing is really nice. I do really like this Pokemon right now.

:roaring moon: Roaring Moon from C+ to B
This Pokemon is good. I don't know why people have it so low. Fast, hits hard, etc. Good mon. Please raise it at some point. It's definitely better than Greninja and Okidogi in my eyes.

That's about all I've got in me for right now, I might bring up a few more things but Gouging Fire is being suspected right now so yeah.

my-image (3).png

post pl tier list: only dropping thoughts on discrepancies of vr with my list of viability, tiers are ordered for the most part but c -> below is a crapshoot. would not load >fish unless im fishing for mu with one of these guys but if they had a letter ranking it would be D. horrible is for mons that are just terrible i cant rly drop my bias 2 rank them

:primarina: this mons fairly overrated imo it has been shown to do more than just the cookie cutter sets in the past but the opportunity cost for most sets is fairly high and prim often forces itself into roles on teams that make it hard to show ambiguity/flexibility imo. it's still a good mon don't get me wrong but it's barely in top 10 for me.

:regidrago: this mons only strength is builder presence rly. if you build well it's not an issue much in game and it is not super hard to find answers (even if they are cookie cutter) not to say it doesn't demand a certain response in builder because that would just be false but if you look at it in the vacuum of games then it is underwhelming more often than not. fat sets are all i usually run since i think those are best, swipe sets are also cool.

ok i dont feel like saying much more here if u want more detailed opinions then dm me on cord but those were the main two i think ppl would disagree with. less rankings since most vr's are bloated with s- propaganda when i find a+ and a to be pretty sufficient for defining stuff in my view.

I'm also gonna post my personal VR and give some thoughts. I've been meaning to update my personal VR for a while now and just haven't gotten to finishing it (and I'm only doing until B- cause I don't think I'm the type to really use too many mons below that and don't have sufficient experience to rank a lot of those lower VR mons) but yeah, this seems like good enough of a time to do that or something idk...

:zarude: Zarude
So, like Drip, I have this thing in A-, which is a bit high given its current C rank on the Viability Rankings.

Code:
Zarude @ Weakness Policy
Ability: Leaf Guard
EVs: 128 HP / 52 Atk / 172 SpD / 156 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Bulk Up
- Power Whip
- Knock Off
- Encore
No, I do not know what the EVs are for I totally forgot but they do something....

I forgot to touch on this in my previous post, but I think Zarude is incredibly underrated right now. Yes, it doesn't have Darkest Lariat, but I really have not found too many situations where it doesn't want Knock Off over it. It's just a fast Encore user with good typing and stats with access to Bulk Up. I think that Weakness Policy is its best set right now and used the following set multiple times during 1v1PL.

That's all I've got once again, feel free to reply to this message if y'all wanna start an argument with me on where I ranked a mon or something, hf-

my-image (1).png

My thoughts on SV after building and spectating all PL and laddering for reqs.
:primarina: I'm not on the S tier prim train just cause it wants to run a lot of really fast and strong spreads and losing out on that bulk is really precious. It has a bunch of sets but none that are really the absolute best or that stand out imo.
:iron-valiant: Iron Valiant is demonic, the encore disable sets have versatiliy in bulk and last move which change MUs quite a bit and then on top of that you can run choice or whatever sd encore set drip has been successfully spamming all tour. It has some hard counters near the top but its really hard to build into and good into many mid/low tiers.
:regidrago: I just don't like how iffy this guy's MUs are against most other dragons and steels in general. Sure it's a big threat but in game it is rarely a 2-1 or a potential 3-0, somehow it has 4mss (wtf) and the individual sets are not super impressive. It has a lot of em though, I think scarf is the big threater to take into account and obviously this is still not a mon to take lightly.
:iron-crown: despite metagross getting a lot better i still take this guy as the superior steel psychic because of its speed tier. I enjoyed a lot of spe booster on ladder which gets really good MUs on top of WP and SpA booster still being really strong. Having to EV skeledirge and ursaluna to be able to beat this reliably is nightmarish.
:hoopa-unbound: I have it high cause I recognize its values but I am not investing stocks in it. Not much to say on it otherwise.
:ursaluna: this mon is just really fat and hits hard as a truck with great coverage. taunt counter solidifies it as better than just an av/cb one trick and it can prolly even have more sets discovered.
:urshifu: the urshifu in the tier list is dark btw i think water is unviable

The lower tiers I'm not that set on really and some were ranked mostly intuitively or from my raw personal experience. I think a lot will shake up with gouging ban anyway mostly I'm predicting crown/gross to be insane, drago and prim a bit more consistent with sets, hax for sure worse, wellspring better and generally less haban spam on dragons that arent regidrago. I think SV is really fun right now I'm excited to see how it keeps going.

So I have a lot of slightly hot takes, and in general I find myself ranking the top tiers a bit differently than most other people, so I'm not going to cover every little difference I have between other people. If you're more interested in what I have to say about everything, check out the VR Sheet, I put comments for most mons there. What I want to do here is mainly talk about what I think is very underrated or overrated right now.

:whimsicott: Average: B Murm: C+
Starting it out with the only mon here that I have lower than others lol. Biggest issue with Whimsicott right now is that the resist berries don't actually give you many matchups. Really the only Fire-type you get with Occa is Gouging, which is nice but losing to Volcarona, Volcanion, and Dirge just feels bad. Babiri is somewhat similar with a slightly awkward Corviknight matchup but more importantly an awful Iron Crown matchup.

:tyranitar: Average: B Murm: B+
CB is nice, Tyranitar just has insane stats and a really nice movepool to hit a significant portion of the metagame hard. I can also see some anti-Fairy stuff with like AV or Policy like SS though its awkward with the Primarina sets being run right now.
Tyranitar @ Choice Band
Ability: Sand Stream
EVs: 248 HP / 24 Atk / 28 Def / 12 SpD / 196 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Rock Tomb
- Heavy Slam
- Knock Off / Crunch
- Outrage / Thunder Punch / Fire Punch
Yes I just grabbed the database set deal with it.

:roaring moon: Average: C+ Murm: B
119 Speed is really nice right now, and it hits really hard with either Choice Band or Booster Energy. The typing is also really nice, as its able to threaten a lot of non-Haban Dragons and a lot of Psychics like Iron Crown.
Roaring Moon @ Booster Energy / Choice Band
Ability: Protosynthesis
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Outrage
- Knock Off
- X-Scissor
- Acrobatics / Substitute / Protect / Iron Head / Whatever.
Could have split up into 2 sets but your resource leader is tired and wants this to be relatively short.

:zarude: Average: C Murm: B+/B
Might be even higher than this but honestly I don't have an insane amount of experience with this thing, but it still does similar things to what it does in SS. It does suck that Hoopa-U and to a lesser extent Meowscarada are making people run a lot more Bug-type coverage, but with Hearthflame gone for a while now, Zarude has a place.

:arcanine: Average: C Murm: C
So while its already at the ranking I was going to suggest (ngl I forgot that it was this high), I think AV has a lot of potential. Intimidate + some nice coverage gives it a niche over Gouging Fire, as it can handle Dragons without needing Haban with Outrage. Extreme Speed is also nice to have. Definitely can do with some experimentation.
MURMDOG HOO HOO (Arcanine) @ Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 176 HP / 252 Atk / 28 SpD / 52 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Flare Blitz
- Outrage
- Flame Charge
- Extreme Speed
I don't remember what its EVed for so don't even ask.

:torterra: Average: C- Murm: C+
So I've seen some people run Shell Armor Iron Defense Body Press, I'll be honest I haven't experimented with it, so I will only be commenting on the set I've been using. Life Orb fast Torterra just hits a lot of the big threats right now, like Primarina, non Balloon Pecharunt, Ursaluna, and Goodra-H. Its not perfect, and definitely has a lot of 4MSS, but its pretty solid and hits very hard especially after a Shell Smash.
Torterra @ Life Orb
Ability: Overgrow / Shell Armor
EVs: 4 HP / 248 Atk / 28 Def / 228 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Wood Hammer
- Headlong Rush
- Shell Smash / Protect
- Substitute / Protect
This was EVed for like Adamant CB Pult or something but you can definitely go Max/Max, maybe Jolly but I like Adamant a lot. Shell Smash is just nice for a bunch of random faster targets (helps a lot against a lot of Pecharunts for instance), Substitute for Ursaluna reliability (unfortunately raw Wood Hammer doesn't KO so you can Sub into Overgrow), Protect for Custap Goodra-H and Primarina.

:iron treads: Average: C- Murm: C+/C
106 base Speed on a Ground type is really nice right now, it outspeeds and beats most Gouging Fire sets with Choice Band. It also has some really nice coverage options like Megahorn for Zarude and Hoopa, and Ice Spinner for both Landorus forms, and while it doesn't matchup well into Prim or Valiant (the two most common Fairies right now), it matches up well into the rest.
Iron Treads @ Choice Band
Ability: Quark Drive
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Iron Head / Heavy Slam
- Megahorn
- Ice Spinner

:carbink: Average: D Murm: C
Unironically a very solid mon right now. Besides Encore, there are very few FEAR counter around right now, and Carbink can even play around some of them, like running Trick Room for Counter and Avalanche. Being a FEAR mon immune to Scale Shot is just really good.
Carbink @ Shell Bell
Ability: Sturdy
Level: 1
EVs: 1 HP / 2 Atk / 3 Def / 1 SpA / 2 SpD / 3 Spe
Quirky Nature
IVs: 3 HP / 2 Atk / 1 Def / 3 SpA / 2 SpD / 1 Spe
Endeavor + 3 of Sand Tomb, Sandstorm, Protect, Trick Room, and/or whatever accurate special attack you want (Dazzling Gleam, Power Gem). This set technically isn't optimal I think since its not max Speed but w/e.

If you have any questions or whatever feel free to let me know. I also plan on making a post for the higher tier stuff some other time, so stay tuned for that I suppose.

Edit: I forgot about Diancie, Diancie is really good right now. I have it in A-, I believe the average is like B? It's a fairy with a lot of unique matchups, like most Gouging Fires and Hoopa-U. Policy is still solid but I think there's a lot of potential with stuff like Specs and Balloon. It definitely can be teched so it can be a tiny bit awkward to build with but it is very good nonetheless.

The New Set
:Charizard:Charizard @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze/Solar Power
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Substitute/Sunny Day
- Blast Burn
- Flamethrower
- Hurricane/Air Slash
Life Orb allows :Charizard:Charizard to have a great power boost while not being choice locked, which is helpful for Encore+Disable :Iron Valiant:Iron Valiant. Substitute is helpful against :Donphan:Donphan, but also lets you use a blaze-boosted blast burn against random Pokémon like :Landorus-Therian:Landorus-Therian and :Iron Hands:Iron Hands. Sunny Day makes SpD :Registeel:Registeel and PhysDef:Pecharunt:Pecharunt matchups consistent. Life Orb Hurricane's Power gives you the best odds against AV :Urshifu:Urshifu, but air slash has better accuracy.

Charizard vs Delphox(And Other Fires)
On Paper, :Delphox:Delphox is better than :Charizard:Charizard. :Delphox:Delphox has better offensive stats, with higher special attack and speed, and its offensive typing is stronger against poison types. However, :Charizard:Charizard has a few key matchups that I would say make it much better. :Urshifu:Urshifu-Single-Strike is the big one, as :Delphox:Delphox has to play around sucker punch, while Charizard does not. :Delphox:Delphox needs Dazzling Gleam to even stand a chance, while :Charizard:Charizard's Flying STAB naturally covers the fighters. :Charizard:Charizard's Flying type is also useful for defeating :Volcarona: Volcarona, which :Delphox:Delphox can't really beat.

Outside of :Charizard:Charizard, Most fire types are weak to fighting types like:Urshifu:Urshifu, as well as Encore+Disable :Iron Valiant:Iron Valiant. :Charizard:Charizard has a good matchup against :Great Tusk:Great Tusk, where it is immune to its Ground STAB and threatens an OHKO. I believe these qualities should justify why :Charizard:Charizard Should be considered for the Viability Rankings.

Not convinced? Try out one of my better :Charizard:Charizard Teams:

:Charizard: :Haxorus: :Iron Crown:
Stored Power :Iron Crown:Iron Crown is a powerful set, but it notably loses to Encore+Disable :Iron Valiant:Iron Valiant. :Charizard:Charizard helps cover that weakness, as well as being good into Steel-Types, :Urshifu:Urshifu forms, and :Volcarona:Volcarona.

Changes:-

:Regidrago: Regidrago S- -> S+
OK, this thing is beast and i don't need to explain anything about. DripLegend we know it isn't hard to find answers against it but still it always makes hard to build freely and I would stick to my words that it deserves ban... anyways suspect is coming for u BLUE BALL

:Corviknight: Corviknight A -> A+
Dude after gouging banned this thing is going crazy. Mental herb protect spite set and the maranga one will be good....

:metagross: Metagross A -> A+
This thing is always good with av/wp and now looks more good.

:Volcarona: Volcarona A- -> A+
Volarona is surely going A+ dude... chilan berry, lo, passho, amulet were cooking so good and now its going to become the next best fire and ya'all should agree. RTM we will think about ceruledge a bit later.

:goodra-hisui: Goodra-Hisui A+ -> A
Ah. i never got any good mus when i use this mon. I have tried stall, chople, av, banded and specs until now and hardly won the matches. Low kick meow (if not chople) wins all banded fighting mons etc. ik most of u won't agree but ye for me this steel is a shame for me LMAO. I would just say that hoodra get gud and become like archaludon such that u get banned and earn some respect :))

:Ninetales-Alola: Ninetales-Alola A- -> A
Sheesh this mon is super clean and i love to use it for disable encore. I saw some amulet and lo sets in PL and its surely usable. (amulet for primarina and for phew stalls... not sure i will confirm and edit it later on ;-; short memory moment and life orb to get a huge damage on ursas zapdos moltres-g etc.)

:urshifu-rapid-strike: Urshifu-Rapid-Strike A- -> A
Urshifu in A and shifu-water A- that felt so dirty for such a good mon... both are respectable and KEEP IT in same ranking and i think A is good for both.

:annihilape: Annihilape B+ -> A-
See i haven't used annihi until now but it have good sets which can defeat a lot of mons like regidrago, primarina pecharunt wellspring hoopa-u and goes on..... Sets are av sitrus berry which helps for scarf regidrago and for specs too probably, av for raging bolt, hoopa-u, primarina not sure BUT IT SHOULD and most used set i have seen is weakness policy which helps beat cresselia if u run taunt and hopefully its not scarf :skull: espathra and few valiants and hoopa-u. So thats why i consider it a promotion to A-

:manaphy: Manaphy B+ -> A-
Ok manaphy is REALLY REALLY good for stall purpose (i used it a lot and its worth to try :wink:) talking about other sets mental herb (helps against iron valiant, tales-alola and whatever disable encore stuff in this meta), life orb (for high dmg after t1 of tail glow) and clear amulet. (pls tell me what else set i am missing on discord.... appreciated)

:Spectrier: Spectrier B+ -> A-
I CAN SEE THIS BEAST coming back after gouging ban ngl. Life orb will o hex set is crazy good. choice specs and leftovers (wait my brain is washed, is there any spectrier set with lefties)

:Great Tusk: Great Tusk B+ -> A-
baba boi banded tusk and booster speed are 2 good sets u can try anyday. Promoting this to A- is worth ig after gouging getting banned steels usage will be going up for sure so supercell slam and temper flame would help u guys

:whimsicott: Whimsicott B -> B+
Uhm i feel like babiri berry would be fun using. This mon isnt that bad and can be used against raging bolt regidrago corviknight metagross primarina (50/50 against lo prim set) diancie and a lot of mons...

:iron hands: Iron Hands B+ -> B
Idk but this mon is either underrated or its just getting rekt by every single mon for some reason. Usage is going down every day of hands and i think the reason are pecharunt and primarina (also regidrago until u dont use some av or some super bulky set hands)

:bellibolt: Bellibolt B- -> B
As delemon mentioned too i think in discord that belli would have been more usable if muddy water wasn't banned but ofcourse accuracy drop... so i think demoting from B- to B is fair. Ik it learns soak but you know that at this current meta substitue/taunt/encore/disable stuff are there so much that bellibolt won't be able to handle it.

:donphan: Donphan B -> B-
DUDE i loved this mon so much but now it isn't much of use after seeing wp charm prim, flame orb ursaluna, bulk up annihi and shifu water, metagross mixed spa + attacker set and lots and lots of stuff to counter it.....

:fezandipiti: Fezandipiti C+ -> B-
This mon is perfect who are having issues to fight corvi regidrago primarina and pecha. Taunt and tail slap would be enough for all these with ballon. Charm will be good for av ursa donphan and few more attackers. Ask me this set in discord cause i am blind and not able to see the set in my builder ;-;

:suicune: Suicune C -> C+
Hahahahha after gouging ban bo_bobson27 's sample is only there in the 1v1 ROOM!!! LOL. But tbh its really worth it to use with calm mind. HI TO MY FUTURE OPPS. in masters i am going to use suicune in any1 of my matches so congrats u can cteam me :)).

:Zarude: Zarude C -> C+
Look delemon post above, would be more helpful than me explaining a mon which i used like 4-5 months ago ahhh.

With this I am ending my 1st ever VR and I had a lot of fun doing this tbh. Would ask VR council to please correct me whatever mistakes i did in this. Also ik there isn't much changes compared to the actual VR of murm but ngl i am going to promote/demote a lot of mons in future posts obviously on how capable they are in the rankings. Please..... correct me if i did smth. wrong i would appreciate.

Next Post
Before ending this, Landorus-incarnate kyurem ting lu alcremie mamoswine and few more mons are there which might be promoted but wasn't sure so will look into it later on. Rest of the mons below C will be posted next and what i missed in this post.

Thank You!

with a fire type ban just happened and another one right around the corner (this was meant to be posted pre-gouging ban) i have a new nom i want more people talking about.

:scizor: B- to A-/A

let's start with what i'm convinced is the brand new mon in the spotlight, and that's Scizor. i've been experimenting with this mon quite a bit and it's been clear to me that this guy fricking slaps.
it's basically an offensive steel that's not stopped by hoopa, which isn't true for pokemon like magnezone, heatran, gross and crown, so usually you end up running a defensive steel like corv or regi.
on top of this, being neutral to ground is really nice, it really helps against mons like ursa and treads

Pokémon Scizor is weak to:
:skeledirge: :metagross: :walking-wake: :zapdos:Steel resists: for waters it's pretty much just manaphy and walking wake since these are really the only ones that Scizor struggles to hit, i think this is actually why wake is such a good mon with scizor since it hits fires and steels for pretty good damage, plus it helps against...
:iron-hands: :great-tusk: Physdef Mons: obviously any physical attacker is gonna struggle to hit these without anything to hit them for super-effective STAB damage, which only really happens with pokemon like azu, so it makes sense. can you see that waters are really good with scizor yet.
:spectrier: Spectrier: Spectrier.

sets:
Scizor @ Choice Band
Ability: Technician
EVs: 252 HP / 152 Atk / 104 Def
Adamant Nature
- Bullet Punch
- Bug Bite
- Close Combat
- Dual Wingbeat

It beats val with bpunch into struggle. rest in hp and defense for ursa.

Scizor @ Assault Vest
Ability: Technician
Tera Type: Bug
EVs: 252 HP / 136 Atk / 112 Def / 8 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Counter
- Bug Bite
- Bullet Punch
- Close Combat

lives hyperspace fury from cb hooper, better sylv mu with av, counter helps against av ursa and stuff.

:primarina: S- -> S
I think there's not much to explain here. Easiest mon to put on a team, beats a large portion of the meta without trying too hard and can improve some of its worse MU's without much opportunity cost. I think LO is the best set but any of Custap, Sitrus, (Specs is probably the worst) are easy to use and all great individually. Since its match-ups are fairly linear I have a hard time ever being convinced this is OP but its definetly the best mon in the meta.
:Hoopa-unbound: A+-> S-
The less people just mindlessly run Bulky Band on this the better it gets I feel like. This is the second best mon atm. A lot of this mons answers just rely on running a (bug-)coverage move. Some forced (LandoT/I, Greninja, Ogerpon-W (Knock or Uturn with quite a bit of bulk), GoodraH depending on set). Between Specs, Scarf and Custap it can flip some reliable MUs on its head (think Corvi with specs, Meow, CB Valiant, Pult with the others, etc.)
:cresselia: A- -> B+
I consider this meta to be fairly anti-Cresselia, it's at least the 4th best Psychic-Type and the reliable steels + Hoopa-U are jumping all over. Hard to make up for its downside in the builder currently.
:Volcanion: A- -> A
great typing in both directions, fat as heck, I think some set more set diversity would make this thing even better. Balloon sets are some of the best at making previews awkward and taking advantage of lower dragon/electric usage.
:scizor: B -> B+
good beatlist, strong priority is the best, easy to EV, and what's underrated is that it has started to 'force' some fire coverage on mons that dont want to run it necessarily (Hoopa-U, Garchomp, GoodraH) someone try scarf please, i need to see it snipe a volcarona

some noms I am not entirely convinced on but I think might be interesting discussions:

:pecharunt: A+ -> A

Welcome to the 1v1 Viability Rankings thread! This thread is used to discuss how good we think various Pokemon are in the current 1v1 metagame. As with any resource, these notes should be kept in mind:

- Post smartly: this isn't a set dump thread where you just throw in whatever random set you like using on ladder, this is meant to be a resource dedicated to sorting out the Pokemon that perform the absolute best in the current metagame. Shitposts and one liners will be deleted.
- Words only go so far when it comes to making a convincing case to rank something. Showing calcs and replays says a lot more about a Pokemon's interaction with others than simple speculation.
- Discussion isn't necessarily frowned upon, but if it's a one line response to someone's nomination or something, it'd probably be better just to bring it up to the person in pms or the room or somewhere that won't clutter the thread.

In my opinion regidrago should not be in the S- tier it should definitely be lower as any mon from two of the best types can basically counter it those two types being steel and fairy most regidrago’s often runs 4 dragon types move so most of the time it can’t even do a single damage to fairy and then steel resists dragon and a lot of the highest ranking Pokémon are steel and fairy including the other s- rank I also personally think regidrago struggles against Pokémon that have strong priority moves since regidrago likes to often run scarf dragon energy

Good morning 1v1, I have come to represent the interests of my client Talonflame on the 1v1 viability rankings

Proposed changes: :smogonbird: D -> C/C-

So, what does Talonflame bring to the table above other Fire types in the tier, such as Skeledirge, Volcanion and Volcarona? It brings the rarely-seen Flying type, of which there are only 4 above C rank - and only one of those consistently uses Flying STAB (Goltres). Gale Wings also is an entirely unique ability to Talonflame, and allows it to beat several mons faster than it.

I brought this set to my last UMPL match, where it was picked and won:
Marshflame (Talonflame) @ Choice Band
Ability: Gale Wings
Tera Type: Fire
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Brave Bird
- Flare Blitz
- U-turn
- Dual Wingbeat / Giga Impact
Talonflame was the last mon to go on this team, as I needed an answer to Ogerpon, Hoopa, Meowscarada, Crown, Volcarona, Ape and Registeel. It is worth noting that this is a setguess against Hoopa, as you can always Brave Bird unless it's PhsyDef Hoopa, in which case you need to U-Turn. Iron Crown can also survive a Flare Blitz the majority of the time when fully PhysDef.

Talonflame hits a wonderful 351 speed with 252 EVs and a neutral speed nature, crucially outspeeding Ogerpon. I don't personally see any reason to use a Jolly nature to hit 386 speed, as the beatable mons you outspeed (Meow, Gren, Non-Booster Val) you will beat due to Gale Wings anyway.

I also made a beatlist for this Talonflame set in MSPaint, for reference. I would argue that this is the beatlist of a mon worthy of C/C- rank, even if it tails off below A rank.
