2011 Anti-Trick Room team

Hey everyone, this is my second RMT. I built this one to specifically counter Trick Room teams. Or, more specifically, Amoonguss/Reuniclus leads.

Tornadus@ Flying Gem
Prankster
252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Jolly
-Acrobatics
-Tailwind
-Taunt
-Substitute (?)

This guy is a complete beast. I've found that he is able to take extreme abuse and still come out with a few HP left, giving him another turn to wreak havoc. He sets up Tailwind on the first turn unless there's a quick KO to be found with Flight Gem'd Acrobatics. He can also Taunt any Reunicluses without fail because of Mienshao. I find that I'm not using Substitute very much. I'd like to replace it with another attack.

Mienshao@ Focus Sash
Inner Focus
252 Atk/ 252 Spe/ 4 HP
Jolly
-Fake out
-Rock Slide
-Drain Punch
-Wide Guard

With Mienshao and Tornadus out, the Amoonguss and Reuniclus combo is toast. Fake out Amoongus before he can Rage Spore, then Taunt Reuniclus with Tornadus. Then all I need to do sweep. This moveset may be typical, but that's because it works. Wide Guard is for any leads packing Rock Slide/ Chandelure with Heat Wave. I'm not willing to switch Hi Jump Kick with Drain Punch, it's too risky.

Whimsicott@ Leftovers
Prankster
252 HP/ 252 Spe/ 4 Sp. Def
Timid
-Beat up
-Charm
-Tailwind
-Helping hand

If either of my leads die, I put in Whimsicott for support. Helping Hand is awesome for taking out anything, and Charm renders most attackers useless. Tailwind when it peters out (heh), and Beat Up if for the deadly Terrakion combo. However, if Whimsicott is the only one left on the field, I'm dead. I'd rather not be like "Crap, everything else dead. GG." Are there any slots open for an attacking move? Charm or Tailwind could be taken out for Giga Drain, perhaps. But I hate the feeling when all I have is a full HP Whimsicott left on the field. I also wanna put Trick Room in here.

Terrakion@ Life Orb
Justified
4 HP/ 244 Atk/ 4 Def/ 252 Spe
Jolly
-Rock Slide
-Sacred Sword
-Earthquake
-Quick Attack

Once Whimsicott uses Beat Up, it's good bye. Rock Slide pretty much KOs anything it hits for neutral damage. Sacred Sword is for pesky Hydreigons that might kill Whimsicott with Flamethrower. EQ for coverage. But I think I should take some EVs out of Attack and put them into HP/Def. This guy is dying waaay too quickly for my tastes.

That's my team. It's annoying that I don't have a fire attack for when I really need it, as well as any Electric or Grass moves. I'm gonna put in Chandelure and Elecktross in the last two slots if I predict I'll be going up against a Whimsicott/Terrakion or Jellicent/ Ferrothorn team. I'll get their Movesets/EVs/Natures soon.

This looks pretty decent, but I have a few suggestions:

Tornadus: I think you'll find Protect instead of Substitute far better, the opponent can just double attack a Sub and you're toast.

Mienshao: This is a good set, pretty standard, I've used it and really like it.

Whimsicott: Maybe consider Giga Drain instead of Helping Hand, so you have a move to deal damage (Beat Up does little damage), because at +4 Terrakion's tearing crap up anyway.

Terrakion: Protect instead of Earthquake, as you don't want to hurt Whimsicott, (and if Mienshao had just used Wide Guard then him too) and Close Combat over Sacred Sword. Beat Up Terrakion's goal is damage, not longevity.

As for Chandelure and Eelektross, you might want to consider these sets:

Chandelure @ Choice Scarf
Modest
6 HP/252 SpA/252 Spe
Heat Wave
Shadow Ball
Overheat
Hidden Power (Ice)

Basic Scarf Chandelure, Overheat OHKOes a whole lot that Heat Wave doesn't.

Eelektross @ Sitrus Berry
Quiet
252 HP/252 SpA/6 SpD
Thunderbolt
Grass Knot
Hidden Power (Ice)
Protect

If TR does go up, Eelektross is a pretty good counter.

Ah, thank you so much. I think I might Scrap Whimsoctt/Terrakion. Beat Up is tied to how many party members I have left, +2 Attack isn't much to go on. I'm probably gonna replace Mienshao with a Fire Gem Chandelure. Reuniclus might be holding a Mental Herb, ruining my plan. Chandelure could use Heat Wave then Tornadus could use Acrobatics to finish off Reuniclus. Should I keep Whimsicott? If I replace Beat Up with Trick Room it could be a good back up plan, in case TR does go up.

I would keep Whimsicott, it always has uses, whether as a back up Tailwind setter or unsetting(?) Trick Room, I think the set could look like this:

Whimsicott @ Coba Berry/Mental Herb
Prankster
Timid
252 HP/252 Spe/6 Def
Tailwind
Taunt/Trick Room
Giga Drain/Grass Knot
Helping Hand/Encore

Yeah, a lot of options, but I'll explain each one.

Tailwind duh since your team is a Tailwind team. Taunt is probably better if you're leading to stop other Tailwind and Trick Room, while in the back Trick Room can reset it if it's already up. Giga Drain provides healing while Grass Knot hits heavier TR Pokes like Gigalith. Helping Hand provides extra Attack for your team but Encore can lock a Pokemon into Trick Room, forcing them to reset it. Coba Berry lets it not die to Tornadus and Mental Herb lets it not get Taunted, your choice.

I would keep Mienshao, a lead of Whimsicott/Tornadus+Mienshao can stop most Trick Room set ups. (Barring Ghosts with Mental Herbs, but that's what Chandelure is for) For Chandelure, just put it in the 5th slot, though I'd use a Ghost Gem to have a good chance to OHKO almost all Trick Room users.

I'm thinking my team should be this:
Tornadus@ Flight Gem/Chandelure@ Fire Gem
Whimsicott@ Leftovers/ Mienshao@Focus Sash

Os should I swith Chandelure with Whimsicott? Fire Gem'd Heat Wave KOs Amoonguss, then Acrobatics takes care of Reuniclus.

You can't put all your eggs in one basket. Don't always lead with those two, because you're not always going to see Amoonguss/Reuniclus. You need to be able to beat Tailwind, too, and if it's an opposing Tornadus/Whimsicott lead with Tornadus/Mienshao. (or Whimsicott if you decide to use Mental Herb)

Wait. Why are you using Leftovers on Whimsicott. It's always getting targeted, and it won't stay alive long enough to utilize them. Either a Coba Berry or Mental Herb is the best item. (in my opinion)

Alright. If I see Reuniclus/ Amoonguss on the opposing team, I'll use Tornadus/ Chandelure. If not, I'll use Tornauds/ Whimsicott@ Mental Herb.
