Ubers Championship III
━━━━━━━━━▲━━━━━━━━━

2020 Ubers Circuit Standings

Following a lengthy and rigorous year of tournaments, we finally find ourselves presented with a star-studded Top 16 featuring some of the most competitive and highly touted players Ubers has to offer. Congratulations to every single one of us for making it this far, and good luck in this final step, the pinnacle of our third annual circuit, the Ubers Championship III. By the end of these playoffs, which of the following players will be crowned the 2020 Ubers Champion and earn themselves the highly coveted Ubers Circuit Ribbon? Will Exiline or Garay Oak repeat as Ubers champion or will a new name rise up and claim the championship for the first time? Stay tuned to find out!

Tournament-Specific Rules
Standard Rules and Clauses
  • Species Clause: A player cannot have two Pokemon with the same PokeDex number on his team.
  • Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned. (No other evasion boosting things are banned). The exception to this is BW Ubers
  • OHKO Clause: The moves Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned.
  • Endless Battle Clause: Anything capable of intentionally creating an endless battle is banned.
  • Moody Clause
  • Sleep Clause
  • SleepTrap Clause: A Pokemon cannot use a move that can inflict sleep status on the opponent if it has the ability Shadow Tag.
  • The move Baton Pass is banned.
  • Dynamax Clause: Pokemon cannot Dynamax during a battle.
Identity

About playing on alts: It is entirely allowed to play on an alt other than your own main forum name, though if your opponent wishes to confirm your identity, you must log on to your main alt to show them you are who you claim to be. This is to prevent people from pretending to be who they're not.

About playing on different servers: The matches must be played on either the Smogtours server or the Main PS! server if both parties agree to that. Other servers are not sanctioned by the host(s) and playing in them might result in your game not counting. Protect yourself from that by playing on Smogtours.

Scouting

On scouting opponents: Going through your opponents replays of tournament and ladder games is entirely allowed, as long as a game is public there is nothing preventing you from watching it. An exception to this is abusing powers granted to you by being staff on Smogon or PS! to gain access to information a normal user wouldn't have access to, which is strictly forbidden.

On leaking teams: Divulging private information about someone's planned team to their opponent is never allowed, and will be heavily sanctioned. Requesting that such information be divulged is also grounds for punishment. Keep your scouting to publicly available information and you'll be fine.

Timer Clause / Disconnections

Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.

Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

Scheduling

Use VMs to schedule with your opponent to make it easier for me to track activity calls when needed, and use this guide to ensure you don't lose via activity or coinflip. If you use other methods to contact your opponent outside of VMs, then post in this thread confirming you're in contact with your opponent; otherwise, it's not necessary. Extensions for those with time conflicts will only be given when proof is provided of scheduling with their opponent in the beginning of the round, so do not schedule last minute expecting to be compensated in case of timezone conflicts or be given an activity win over your opponent.

I know that was a lot to read, but it is all necessary for me to have posted here so everyone can see it in the case of a dispute. I don't want any confusion or any problems.

How many lives were sacrificed for pohjis not to be first seed of an ubers playoffs tournament
He forgot to play a single SS Tour.

byronthewellwell vs Perry - Byron is the best ubers player as per performance of 2020 and has honestly shot up in skill level since the beginning of the year and Perry just hosts tours?
KyogreF4N vs Rhmsitb - Idk who this is, but he seems like a long lost cousin of GunnerRohan and OgreF4N is honestly overrated imo, I heard people called him a top 5 player and I spat out my tea
Highlord vs Shuwri - Your prep was crazy on my UPL team LOL. You played really well and had some really unfortunate games. Looking forward to see you doing well.
Staxi vs Skysolo- Je t'aime
Icemaster vs Exiline - I think exiline is the better player. SS mains competition is kinda weak and Icemaster really never stood out to me as a top SS main; SS meta was never really a good indicator of playing skill imo
squinn vs SoulWind - Soulwind is the highest skill level player in tour
Garay oak vs Goat Heart - I Like Garay
Manaphy vs Pohjis - If this included old gens id favour pohjis, I've not seen the dude play a single SS Ubers game so this is a exciting matchup.

God damn it, french invasion again....

byronthewellwell vs Perry -Byron’s always been quite consistent and he’s been doing v well this year so clear edge
KyogreF4N vs Rhmsitb -Even though I think he’s not as skilled as his results show, truth is that ogref4n wins very consistently. I wish rhm good luck but being objective I think ogre will take this one.
Highlord vs Shuwri -Afaik highlord doesn’t play SS and shuwri is a tryhard (and also french). Small edge
Staxi vs Skysolo -Honestly I have no idea, I’d say these guys are quite similar in terms of skill level, so it’ll depend on who is the best metagamer. Bolding none because I haven’t seen almost any dlc2 games.
Icemaster vs Exiline -Since this tour is SS only, I think icemaster is favored vs almost anyone. Even though he might not be the sharpest player on the pool he quite certainly is the most knowledgeable one in this tier.
squinn vs SoulWind -If he gives a single fuck and doesn’t bring terrible teams, SW has more than enough skill to win it all, and it’s not one of those guys who’s like “oh I totally didn’t know this poke ran this set” and loses bc of it either.
Manaphy vs Pohjis -Assuming he will care because he decided to play in the first place, pohjis does well in pretty much every tournament he signs up for, and he’s improved a LOT over the years. Manaphy is not a bad player but pohjis is clearly better in my eyes.

unbiased predicts

byronthewellwell vs Perry: byron won ssnl pretty convincingly and has had an excellent year. perry's decent but hasnt been playing much recently so gotta go with byron
KyogreF4N vs Rhmsitb: similar to above as Kyogref4n is playing really hot and has 4 accounts in the top 5 on the ladder or smth while rhmsitb has been mostly inactive, probably closer than the above series since rhm is great but gotta go with the hotter player
Highlord vs Shuwri: dont love bolding either here, highlord been talking for months now thats hes tryna learn the tier for champs but i dont think hes made too much progress. shuwri a bit of a wildcard here who could be a darkhorse but i trust that highlord found something good in his 2 months of "grinding" ss
Staxi vs Skysolo: again dont wanna bold either as ive seen both choke a bunch in ss recently, I do think skysolo will bring better teams and will win based of the prep in what will be an exciting series for the spectators full of interesting (to say the least) plays
Icemaster vs Exiline: exiline would have a chance if old gens were included but ss is the undisputed number 1 ss dude (fc is close tho s/o him)
squinn vs SoulWind : squinn didnt impress me much with his ss in back in homefield and soulwind is just a much better player, sw will struggle against more experienced ss players but I think he should win here
Garay oak vs Goat Heart: both have been inactive in ubers for a bit so should be interesting to see where they are at. goat heart seems to falter in big moments against good players, so i think i gotta go with garay who just won snake and is probably as confident as ever
Manaphy vs Pohjis: manaphy certainly as more ss experience, but i'm just not too fond of his play especially compared to someone like pohjis. thought pohjis would decline the invitation tbh, so him playing means he's certainly committed to do well

Icemaster

Why is your response so sour ? My predicts are 100% honest, I predict for who I believe is the better player. I don't dislike you btw. I just don't think you're as good as youre made out to be and overhyped by the Ubers community. SS is a poor metric for success in my honest opinion. I honestly believe Exiline is the better player (playing in both SPL/Snake Draft, and numerous other tours) despite how annoying he can be at times. Both fan favourites have both lost their series to the better player this championship.

Just prove me wrong and win dude thats all there is to it. I'm very harsh on players including myself because I want them to play at their best and improve as players. theres no malicious intent here
