Welcome to the 2024 RarelyUsed Circuit Playoffs! This is what the entire year's RarelyUsed tournament circuit has led up to. After struggling through the year's many different versions of the RU metagame, we finally have our 16 playoff contestants. The winner of this tournament will receive the 2024 RarelyUsed ribbon as a reward for their hard work and accomplishments this year!

Specific Rules:
  • This is a standard SV RU tournament.
  • This tournament will be SINGLE Elimination.
  • Rounds 1 and 2 will be Best of 3; the semifinals and finals will be Best of 5.
  • Any tier changes that occur during a round will not be in effect until the following round.
  • Changing teams between games is allowed.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown; you must play on either Smogtours or the main server.
  • Replays are mandatory for each game you play! I recommend playing on Smogtours so that they are automatically saved. DO NOT HIDE YOUR REPLAYS.
  • Species Clause: A player cannot have two Pokemon with the same PokeDex number on their team.
  • Sleep Clause: You cannot inflict sleep upon more than one member of the opposing team.
  • Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned.
  • OHKO Clause: The moves Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned.
  • Endless Battle Clause: Anything capable of intentionally creating an endless battle is banned, draws will be enforced after 1000 turns.

  • Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  • Scouting: Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using stall" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter. I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. Everyone will have access to your replays from earlier rounds though.
  • Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  • Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

I have had my eyes on the RU circuit for a couple years now. I'm very happy to finally win the whole thing.
Past years I always fell short in play offs. Luckily this year I could avoid the r1 Feli match up thanks to the kindness of GoldCat
I was super focused to win the circuit this year. After qualifying relatively early in the year I knew had to prevent feeling burned out when circuit play offs came around. Past years I always had a dip in motivation/building fatigue, so I deliberately skipped playing other tours to fully focus on the circuit. It feels very good to see all the hard work pay off, especially after such a dominant year in the circuit. The TL debuff curse has been broken!

Shout outs to Feliburn for all the help with prep through out the tour. Always love prepping together with you, both here and in scl. Very happy that the prep and techs hit.

Also props to Guille for such a strong run. You have been up and coming in RU (and outside) for a while now. Going from a BW RU main to a force to be reckoned with in SV RU, getting back to back tournaments wins at the end of the ciruit into circuit finals. If you keep this up I'm sure you will get many more wins under your belt in the future. Curious to see what next year will bring for you.

Lastly, I wanna shoutout the entire RU community. I think we have an amazing community and had an awesome year.
Looking forward to having a great 2025 with all of you.
