RU 2025 RU Circuit Playoffs - Round 1

Welcome to the 2025 RU Circuit Playoffs! After 11 months, 4 metagame shifts, and 7 RU Circuit tournaments, the 16 best competitors this year have distinguished themselves and earned the right to compete for the title of RU's Circuit Champion! The winner of this tournament will receive the 2025 RU RarelyUsed Ribbon as a reward for their hard work and accomplishments this year!

Specific Rules:
  • This is a standard SV RU tournament.
  • This tournament will be SINGLE Elimination.
  • Rounds 1 and 2 will be Best of 3; the semifinals and finals will be Best of 5.
  • Any tier changes that occur during a round will not be in effect until the following round.
  • Changing teams between games is allowed.
  • Matches are to be played on Pokemon Showdown; you must play on either Smogtours or the main server.
  • Replays are mandatory for each game you play! I recommend playing on Smogtours so that they are automatically saved. DO NOT HIDE YOUR REPLAYS.
  • Species Clause: A player cannot have two Pokemon with the same PokeDex number on their team.
  • Sleep Clause: You cannot inflict sleep upon more than one member of the opposing team.
  • Evasion Clause: The moves Double Team and Minimize are banned.
  • OHKO Clause: The moves Horn Drill, Guillotine, Sheer Cold, and Fissure are banned.
  • Endless Battle Clause: Anything capable of intentionally creating an endless battle is banned, draws will be enforced after 1000 turns.

  • Identity: I expect many battles to be completed under alts. This can be bad for tournament security, and thus I will make this clear: If I hear any whispers of identity theft (battling as someone you are not) or proxy battling (helping someone else battle through pm) I will not be pleased and I will take severe actions.
  • Scouting: Next, I do not want to hear anything about counterteaming, at all. Do not complain about it. I also don't want to hear about any blatant scouting. There is a difference between "[user] is known for using stall" and "let me follow [user] around all day to watch all his battles since I am his opponent". I expect a lot of the former and none of the latter. I give permission to all battlers to ask any person spectating their battle to leave if they do not want them watching. Everyone will have access to your replays from earlier rounds though.
  • Timer Clause: As for taking long between moves, if your opponent asks you to hurry up, please oblige. If you are doing a damage calc for a key turn that is one thing, but prolonging every move is suspicious and annoying. Don't do it. Furthermore, Battle Timeout is a rule for a reason. If you run out of time, you lose, simple as that. It does not matter what your opponent says. Do not battle if you think you will have to leave mid battle, and instead reschedule for a better time.
  • Disconnections: Finally, in the case of a disconnect, the decision is in the hands of the player who did not disconnect. The options are: redo the battle move for move, redo the battle with the same teams but different moves, or redo the battle with completely different teams. If the battle was without a doubt over, they may also take the win. Any suspicion that a disconnect was committed on purpose to redo a match may be appealed to me, and if I feel this happened there will be severe consequences, don't do it.

Is the RU tier completely dead??? How did akxhdwy even make it into the Circuit Playoffs? I'm genuinely surprised he qualified.His gameplay can only be described as amateurish. A player who relies solely on luck will eventually be completely exposed and crushed.
 
1. TheFranklin vs 16. Esteb4n - frank has not looked like peak frank all year, but hes been looking like peak frank kinda recently and this is a good time to be peaking
2. Daharan vs 15. akxhdwy - both these guys on the same rucl team but dahas been moving a bit better and seeing actual playing time compared to ak, ak also was the only person to not submit an avatar pick on time which was kinda sad, so with those factors in mind i will be bolding daha
3. LBN vs 14. Feliburn - i hate both of these ppl bc fsr their player cards BROKE yesterday and then i had to spend an extra 10 minutes fiddling around with stupid smogon formatting to unbreak it so i hope they both lose, LBN's was the first card to break though so i will be bolding feli off principle
4. THE_CHUNGLER vs 13. Hoops - hes been great all tour in rucl looked pretty great in ssnl and all around am familiar with seeing chungler succees so will go with that, hoops ive ran into a few times on ladder lately though and he looks good too+also having a good rucl so an upset isnt like unimaginable or anything
5. Ampha vs 12. GoldCat - ampha has had a tough run lately with sv ru but goldcat has also like actually not touched the tier at all in a while i think, both will definitely just be stealing teams from their team chats but i will rank ampha i think as a clicker slightly above gk rn as far as sv goes
6. Cielau vs 11. Txunt! - txunt has looked pretty good in rucl and idk how in touch with sv ciel has been lately so will go for favor on txunt
7. Flabeauf vs 10. Xiri - xiri is one of those guys whos perenially in things like this and always seems to do really well, flab while having a promising open is still a bit new to big time gaming vs big time players and i think the experience gap is smth to be noted
8. zause vs 9. Drud - zause has been kinda on kinda off in rucl for sometime now which is a similar situation to drud, ik these guys know each other from zu too so its a real tough one to call which i think is pretty appropriately reflected by the seeding, im calling it split flipping a coin for drud
