Alright, today we have a 2v2 match between JBCWK and jas61292, with myself as your ref. A word of warning to the competitors...I've been told the lifeguard's on an extended vacation, so, please, don't go drowning on me when the tides roll in...

Without further ado:

Gonna put down a quick challenge for my first battle =D

2v2 singles
3 days DQ time
2 recoveries/5 chills
Arena: Coastal Beach

The main battling area is sand. There is water relatively nearby, with no Pokemon in it or anything. Coconut trees lie along the beach, allowing a place for pokemon to hide if necessary. The blazing hot sun means that the default weather is Sunny Day. Every 6 turns it will become High Tide, and water levels will rise. After 6 turns it will be Low Tide again, etc.

I'll take you on. I only have done one battle myself, so it should be pretty even.

OK Cyndaquil lets start this off. Show them your Blaze.

Now lets use the sunniness of the arena to our advantage. Start of with a powerful Eruption. Then lets try to fire a Smokescreen at it to obscure its vision, and lets finish off with Flamethrower. But if you are able to avoid any damage on the first two actions finish with another Eruption instead.

Eruption - Smokescreen - Flamethrower

Replace Flamethrower with Eruption if still at full health.

Come on now, Alvis. First get in a Light Screen to help you take that Eruption, then give it a good Psyshock! Finally, Recover off anything he tries to shoot off at you. We got this!

Light Screen > Psyshock > Recover

Good early morning, trainers! We're here on this sweltering hot day at the beachfront to watch the maiden voyage of JBCWK's ASB career as he takes on jas61292. Without further ado, the combatants and their chosen Pokemon:

Actions: Eruption - Smokescreen - Flamethrower

Leading with Cyndaquil and Alvis the Solosis, respectively, both trainers apply their sunscreen and prepare for a heated match. Alvis begins concentrating on erecting a Light Screen, but before the glowing walls of safety form, jas's Cyndaquil races down through the sand, barreling towards Alvis as the flames on its back reach a critical degree of heat and magnitude. The resulting Eruption sends Alvis reeling back in pain, as even with its squishy membrane protecting him, the heat from the sun only magnifies the fury of Cyndaquil's attack. The resulting firestorm seems to have melted some of the surrounding sand into a smooth, shiny glass, as Cyndaquil lands back a ways, proud of it's fierce attack.

Alvis then proceeds to finalize preparations for his barrier of light, but not a moment after, Cyndaquil opens his mouth, and a hazy black fog streams out toward Alvis! The Smokescreen will surely hinder the vision of our nucleic friend, as well as destroying utterly any hope I had at actually telling what's going on. Hmmm...oh, what's that? It seems Alvis has prepared a Psyshock, the tangible thoughts rocketing through the smoke, scoring a direct hit on Cyndaquil, causing it to be slammed back through the sand.

Not one to be phased by such a minor setback, Cyndaquil once again turns toward Alvis, flames crackling in its mouth as it readies Flamethrower. In an instant, a stream of fire scorches down into the dense fog, connecting with Alvis and bending slightly around the faint glow of the Light Screen. More sand is turned into decorating art by the flames, creating a line of polished glass leading on into the inky blackness. Suddenly, a shimmer appeared in the smog, as Alvis begins repairing its form with a wisely placed Recover.

Cyndaquil seems to be loving every minute of the sun, while Alvis seems to be content behind its SPF 500 Light Screen. With the tide expected to roll in in 5 turns, and the beach being constantly being melted into shimmering glass, will either of the combatants be able to take advantage of their changing surroundings to pull off a win?

Calculations:
Cyndaquil Eruption (15*1.5)+3+3+((3-2)*1.5)=30 Damage 7 Energy (Critical)
Alvis Light Screen 7 Energy
Cyndaquil Smokescreen 4 Energy
Alvis Psyshock 8+3+((5-2)*1.5)=16 Damage 5 Energy
Cyndaquil Flamethrower (10*1.5)+3+((3-2)*1.5)-5=15 Damage 6 Energy
Alvis Recover +20 HP 11 Energy

That's OK, Alvis, you'll hold out! Firstly get ready to Calm Mind to take more of his special hits, then Psyshock him one more time! Finally, get into the water to maintain some distance - his fire attacks will get weaker after some range, but your Psychic attacks will work just fine!

Calm Mind > Psyshock > Get into water

Keeping yourself from taking damage saved us in your last battle, so lets try it again. But first lets get in another Flamethrower before it can boost its Special Defense. Then multiply your self with Double Team to create 3 extra copies. And finally before it can get in the water, cut it off with a Flare Blitz.

Flamethrower - Double Team (3 copies) - Flare Blitz

The last round was truly a fierce contest of wills between our two combatant's Pokemon of choice, but nothing would be able to match the sheer guts of the trainers in the days that followed. Shortly after our last update a T5 server storm knocked out power to the ref booth and forced the evacuation of the coastal area. But, our brave warriors stood motionless, letting the storm wash over them and their Pokemon so they could maintain UNCHANGED circumstances for their battle. Hats off to them, I got out while the going was good...anyway, everything's all fixed up here in my shack, it's freakishly sunny again, and we can get back to the beatdowns without delay.

The combatants get right back into the fight, with Cyndaquil launching a red hot Flamethrower right at Alvis, his shiled of light still glowing in the dissipating black fog. The jet of fire connects square on the gold prism, which spreads the blaze around it once more, but the sheer heat from the blast cooked poor Alvis in his bubble like a marshmallow in a convection oven. Alvis appears frightened...thoughts like "Where am I in this smoke?", "Why so much fire?", and "Where did the ref go?" race through it's mind. But Alvis knows all to well that fear does not have a place on the battlefield, and with a short psychological pep talk, it calms its mind, raising its damage out put and defensive confidence. Just then, the smoke clears and Alvis, faith renewed, is able to clearly see Cyndaquil down the beach...

...four Cyndaquils...quite a troublesome sight for the little cell. It seems that our ninja-trained, flaming porcupine used the last moments of its smoke cloud to make 3 copies of itself using Double Team. Alvis would not be shaken, releasing another wave of Psyshock blasts hurling toward the one it believed was the real Cyndaquil. The resulting blast struck the middle left illusion with a poof, and Cyndaquil was left with 2 clones, but the benefits of not taking the attack outweighed the loss of the fake comrade.

Visibly frustrated, Alvis began moving towards the water, considering for a moment that the same trip out to sea would surely prove fatal for Cyndaquil. It rushed into the wet sand, when it turned just in time to see the Cyndaquil Force Three blazing down the beach in a triangular formation of fire. The Flare Blitz blasted right through the golden shield and sent Alvis rocketing off into the air. Cyndaquil cringed a bit at the harsh recoil of the impact as its opponent finished its migration out ever so slightly into the shallow part of the sea.

The tide rolls in in 4 rounds! All the fire is making beautiful glass crop circles on the beach! Alvis is taking a dip to try to keep from keeling over, while Cyndaquil and its clones huddle to ponder how they will reach out to finish of the floating Solosis. WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT ROUND?

Calculations:
Cyndaquil Flamethrower (10*1.5)+3+((3-2)*1.5)-5 = 15 Damage 6 Energy
Alvis Calm Mind 6 Energy
Cyndaquil Double Team (3 Clones) 12 Energy
Alvis Psyshock HIT CLONE 5 Energy
Cyndaquil Flare Blitz (12*1.5)+3+((2-2)*1.5) = 21 Damage 11 Damage Recoil 7 Energy
Alvis got into the water, which will cost 2 Energy per action to continue to stay at the given distance. Provides a strategic advantage over Cyndaquil, as it will not be able to swim out or launch physical attacks without endangering itself, as a Fire-Type. 2 Energy to get to this distance

Ugh. I hate water. Especially wet water. But if it wants to tire itself out swimming around, who am I to stop it? So, since we cant really get to it, then lets make sure it can't get to us either. So fire off a Smokescreen to blind it. Then tighten yourself up into a Defense Curl to weaken any Psyshocks that manage to hit through both the Smoke and Double Teams. Finally, lets just chill out for now. However, if it comes back onto the beach Slam it with a Flare Blitz, but make sure you get that Smokescreen in at some point.

Smokescreen - Defense Curl - Chill
Replace any one action with Flare Blitz if it comes on land, but if it comes on land on the first action, drop defense curl and push Smokescreen back to action 2.

Come on... Get in a Recover to heal up again, then Shadow Ball! Finally, force him to take a good Psychock !

A Solosis at sea? A gang of ninja Cyndaquil? Things I never thought I'd see in my lifetime, but here we are! And speaking of not seeing, Cyndaquil and his band of illusory replicas are out to prevent a loss at the hands of our sea-faring cell Alvis, opening their mouths and billowing out a thick, hazy Smokescreen in a wide arc along the water's edge. They brace themselves for an attack, but it never comes. Alvis, with his golden aura fading, begins to glow, speeding up his metabolic rate and recovering a good deal of health.

The group of Cyndaquil and his clones, upon witnessing this spectacle, once again brace for impact, this time taking an extra measure to prevent damage using Defense Curl to firm their bodies against potential attacks. Alvis, meanwhile, begins to synthesize a good-sized orb of inky black energy, before taking aim at the fog before it, recalling where it had seen the gang before. With a mere thought, Alvis sent his Shadow Ball racing into the abyss of the smoke. But alas, the shroud of smoke did indeed cover the tracks of Cyndaquil and company far to well, as the orb sped past its intended recipients and sailed right into a hearty palm tree.

It appears even ninja need rest, and after two moves of waiting for damage that would never happen, Cyndaquil and his cohorts decide that a quick chill on the beach would do their bodies good. The three of them sprawled out on the beach and let out a sigh. They were just about to get up, too, when suddenly disaster struck. Alvis, bending his thoughts, sent the crashing waves of Psyshock back into the clearing smoke, which obliterated the second of Cyndaquil's copies in an instant. Cursing the luck of their pick, Alvis would stay in the water, now able to see the pair of Cyndaquil through the vanishing obstruction of the smoke.

Oops, didn't see this for a while. Oh well, lets get it started again then.

Ok Cyndaquil, now lets go back on the offensive. The sun is still on our side so lets put on the heat with a Flamethrower. If you can boil the water around it too, that would be awesome. Then lets throw up another Smokescreen. We don't want to get confused now, do we? And finally, lets keep on scorching it with another Flamethrower. That water he's in won't stop us.

With the dense fog once again cleared from the beach, it appears Cyndaquil is ready to take more shots at the floating Alvis from the relative safety of the coastline. With the sun as its muse, Cyndaquil once again builds up a great deal of flames in its mouth before launching out a searing hot Flamethrower straight out to sea. Alvis, who was taking the time to rest as it desperately wades in the shallow waters to chill for a bit, looked up from its nap just as the pyrotechnic display danced all over its body. The flames even managed to give the little celluloid a nasty burn...if only burns could hurt a nucleic membrane, though I guess its paltry and unloved attack stat will suffer a bit from this happening...

Content with the damage it inflicted on the poor Solosis, Cyndaquil, clone in tow, began once again blinding their opponent and simultaneously blocking my ocean view with another billowing Smokescreen. The darkness was almost immediately cut clean through, however, by the light emitted from Alvis and his attempted Confuse Ray. Cyndaquil was far too busy, it seems, blotting the sun out with its smoke that it forgot to tuck and roll, resulting in a severe confusion and the loss of his last remaining clone!

Teetering about, Cyndaquil nearly wobbles right into the water before tumbling back, trying to build up another blast of fire. Instead, it stubbed its toe on a rock and careened face first into a sea shell, inflicting a small amount of damage to itself. Alvis just laughed at the display, readying a Shadow Ball. But, karma punished Alvis for its mockery of his opponent by having Cyndaquil accidentally teeter out of the way at the last minute, resulting in the ball of malicious intent dissipating harmlessly on one of the palm trees littering the back half of the beach.

The tide rolls in in 2 rounds. This round can best be summed up as a massive whiffing fest, with Cyndaquil's smoke blocking what would have been a critical Shadow Ball, and the true aim of Alvis rendering Cyndaquil's clone and subsequent Flamethrower mere slapstick comedy. Let's just hope that both combatants have the sense to fall back to the trees when the tide comes in!

Well, I suppose at this stage attacking is still our best bet. With the sun on our side it would be absurd for us to lose this one, so we need to just keep Firing away. So, lets start it off with another Flamethrower. And then another Flamethrower. And finally, lets finish it off with a final Flamethrower. If that doesn't beat that Solosis, well I don't know what will.

Flamethrower - Flamethrower! - FLAMETHROWER!!!

You've done pretty good now. Let's get in some final damage to end the round!

Both Alvis and Cyndaquil know that, like the rising tides, this round of combat was here to swallow one of their chances for glory in this battle. Both Cyndaquil and Alvis, ignoring entirely their respective afflictions, each let loose their most powerful shots, Cyndaquil choosing a powerful, sun-boosted Flamethrower and Alvis opting for his Psyshock! The red hot flames and rouge brainwaves passed each other gracefully before slamming into their respective targets, sending both reeling backwards as their impairments both simultaneously cleared up. But who would rise first to deliver the final blow....yes, it appears, with bit of effort on his part Cyndaquil will be the one to finish the crippled Alvis with a second Flamethrower! Alvis, scorched and boiled, rolls over in the water as his trainer JBCWK scoops him up in the energy of its containment device. A hard fought trial to be sure, but it seems the poor cell couldn't keep up with the barrage of sun-channeling Fire moves in the end!

JBCWK, send out you second Pokemon and prepare your actions!

I must have missed this.

Anyway, go, Dratini! You'll be released into the water, so take the chance to hit him with a Thunder Wave! Aqua Jet twice after that to smack him hard - This water helps you a lot!

Hmm. I thought for sure I would be facing Growlithe. Well, this screws with my thought process.

But anyways, paralysis would suck, so lets try to evade it by making 2 more clones with Double Team. Then lets keep on blazing away with a pair of Flamethrowers.

Double Team (2 copies) - Flamethrower - Flamethrower

Massive apologies for my utter failure to update as of late. School and finals are coming soon, so my updating ability has been sketchy for the past week. Anywho, it appears since last we met a new challenger has entered the fray, and the water level has crashed over all those pretty burn lines in the sand, making for quite a shimmering display, with the tide coming in in full next round! Let's go to the battle, shall we?

With Alvis defeated, JBCWK quickly whips out another Pokeball and calls out Nidhogg the Dratini, who happily splashes in the water ready to strike the quickly tiring Cyndaquil. Distracted by playing in the cool waters of the beach, the little dragon was surprised to see three Cyndaquil on the beach where only one had stood before. Indeed, Cyndaquil had, as Nidhogg was being released, cloned himself once again, this time opting for a more economical Double Team, making only two clones. Shocked, and pun not at first intended, Nidhogg began charging a Thunder Wave, which crackled towards the waiting trio of Cyndaquil, causing the water to jump with charge across its flight path. The wave struck one of the Cyndaquil...and the other two suddenly vanished! Tired and now immobile, Cyndaquil stood up to face his opponent with a small grimace.

Nidhogg, taking advantage of the crippling of his opponent, and also maybe as just an excuse to play in the water more, began rocketing forward on a blast of water, striking Cyndaquil with an Aqua Jet whose potency was dampened by the intense sunlight. Given the newfound proximity to his opponent, Cyndaquil, through the toll the battle had taken on his body, opened his mouth to shoot off another blazing hot Flamethrower, which despite Nidhogg's resistive skin was able to punch through for some respectable damage.

The heat from the previous blast caused Nidhogg to dive back into the crisp waters of the sea to cool down. When he finally surfaced, the speed and resulting water trail that followed his departure from the water could only indicate another Aqua Jet was headed for Cyndaquil. The blow struck head-on causing a bit of steam to rise from the burning back of Cyndaquil, where stray water droplets had fizzled up due to the heat. Once again fighting through the distressing tightness of his muscles, Cyndaquil returned the favor with a second Flamethrower, which scorched the dragon's nose but failed to leave and lasting burns.

Seemingly waiting for this round's actions to conclude, the sea began to sweep over the beach rapidly, forcing Cyndaquil to expend the effort to retreat to higher ground despite his utter exhaustion. The glittering patterns from the flame jets previously, though, do look absolutely stunning with the sun reflecting off the water from up here. Really, when you guys are finished you should come up and see this...so pretty...

Cyndaquil [M]
Nature: Naive
Health: 27
Energy: 11%
Boosts: none
Other: Paralyzed Lv. 5 (degrades to Lv. 4 at the beginning of the next round, 20% full paralysis chance)

The tide has now risen and will return to normal levels in 6 rounds (provided this lasts that long). Competitors have fallen farther back into the coastline, where there are plenty of palm trees to use for cover!

Calculations:
Cyndaquil Double Team (2 clones) 8 Energy
Nidhogg Thunder Wave 7 Energy, Dissipates clones
Nidhogg Aqua Jet((4*.5)+((4-2)*1.5))*1.5 = 8 Damage 3 Energy
Cyndaquil Flamethrower ((10*1.5)+3+((3-2)*1.5))*.67= 14 Damage 6 Energy
Nidhogg Aqua Jet ((4*.5)+((4-2)*1.5))*1.5 = 8 Damage 7 Energy
Cyndaquil Flamethrower ((10*1.5)+3+((3-2)*1.5))*.67= 14 Damage 10 Energy

jas has first actions in the next round!

Well, it seems like the sun really is helping us out even more than I thought. Those Aqua Jest don't hurt too much at all. But our Flamethrowers are doing respectable damage, so lets Chill out to get some energy back and then shoot off 2 more Flamethrowers. And if Dratini tries to hide in a palm tree. Then lets just use your flamethrower to burn it down. Lets do this.

Chill - Flamethrower - Flamethrower

Regrettably, this battle ends in a DQ for JBCWK. Though I personally feel bad for not keeping up on reffing and would provide more time for him if he asked due to my own failures, he unfortunately has not even logged on in almost a week.

So:

I get 2 ref counters

JBCWK gets 2 TCs
Alvis gets 1 EC, 2 MCs, and 1 DC
Nidhogg gets 1 EC, 2 MCs, and 1 DC

jas gets 2 TCs
Cyndaquil gets 1 EC, 2 MCs, 1 DC, and a KO counter.
