3DS Is it worth it?

I wouldn't know where to direct you to buy one that isn't spensy, but I'd say it's worth it.

Pokemon X/Y and Animal Crossing: New Leaf are probably big sellers, Monster Hunter too I guess but I haven't played any of those
I also heard Luigi's Mansion and Ace Attorney are pretty good
Also pretty excited for Super Mario 3D World and Kirby 3DS in 2014(??)
There's also a 3DS port of VVVVVV, and Mighty No. 9 got enough monies to be able to release a 3DS version whenever that happens
Paper Mario Sticker Star sucks tho (at least, as a Paper Mario game), don't buy it

So... I'd say 'yes'.

Just to avoid confusion, Super Mario 3D World will be released on the Wii U, not the 3DS. The 3DS already has Super Mario 3D Land (which I'm hopelessly addicted to btw). Living on a college campus with several competent players is great incentive to replay the game a lot, trying to beat their times.

As an aside, I really, reeeeally hate to say it, but I am having the roughest time forcing myself to play through Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Every time I make myself play it, about 30 minutes is spent per mission beating my head against the wall looking for everything. Don't get me wrong though, it's a very good game (albeit with pacing issues). I'm pretty sure the problem is me. I felt the same about Yoshi's Island DS until I beat the final boss. Now I can finally enjoy myself with it despite its glaring flaws.

Also Bit.Trip Saga is there on the e-Shop if you like video games. Unfortunately there's no multiplayer like the Wii version, Bit.Trip Complete, but those games were nothing short of a revelation in good abstract game design. Easily the best video game purchase I ever made (including Humble Bundles).

Ah shoot, I could've sworn it was on the 3DS. My bad.
I also forgot to mention that Kid Icarus Uprising is also supposed to be pretty good if you can get past the hand destroying controls.
Couple others: Fire Emblem Awakening has some pretty good reviews, and Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is coming out sooner enough I believe.

<--1. started by sharing a second hand 3DS with boyfriend (we each paid half of the price)
2. XY came out and we fought over it.
3. Boyfriend is saving for another second hand 3DS. (which I will also pay half when he gets his money)

Conclusion: Of course it's worth it! xD

I bought my 3DS which came with Mario Kart. I knew I'd want FE Awakening and Pokemon so I went for it. I've gotten the worth out of it already if I'm honest.

Then again I buy lots of weird things to amuse me and skive out of others.

Don't know how long it will last, but apparently Pokemon, SMTIV, luigi's, and possibly other games are $18 on walmarts website due to what is probably an error.

Well, true.
Considering it's now making 2DS and Wii Mini as a lower cost consoles, I think it's a way for them to use up certain parts and pieces of 3DS, or repackaging their 3DS and getting rid of them.
The whole Wii Mini and 2DS just feels like Gameboy Micro back then.

I just think it's about time for them to announce a new console.
Well, personally I feel it that way.

I bought a 3DS for pokemon x... It wasn't worth it. Buying a 3DS for Pokemon x i mean. The game sucked like all hell. The 3DS was a good buy though, independent of pokemon x and thanks to many other games.

Same here. It's cute and all, but I suppose the style of gameplay they encourage (what with the constant need to hunt down items in obscure locations) isn't really my thing. I also find the vacuum cleaner a bit awkward and imprecise to aim in term of controls.

If anything, though, I'm glad I have a 3DS now because it's always fascinating seeing how much each generation of handhelds has advanced over the decades. Seems like only yesterday I was still marveling at the color display on the GBC compared to the black and white display of the Gameboy.

Also, the connectivity of the 3DS is amazing.

I'm about to get Link Between Worlds, so I'm looking forward to seeing how that goes. c:

I found LoZ: Leg Before Wicket to be quite fun, but also very short. I was disappointed at the lack of item-combo dungeons and puzzles - each dungeon basically uses one of the magic items, and one alone, which seems like a waste since rupees are so plentiful, you can probably rent (and/or buy) all the items in one shot anyway.

I have 6 3ds between my wife and myself. It's definitely worth getting. We have so many good games that we find ourselves never settling on just trying to play one. If you don't want to pay much you can get the 2ds which is still a good investment but I personally prefer the XL due to its larger screens and you can get a better grip on the system.

It's worth it in my opinion, there's a lot of good games right now such as Legends of Zelda, Mario Kart 7, and Pokemon X/Y

Depends. I personally bought one the same day I pre-ordered Pokemon Y. Only 3DS game I own (and probably will own for awihle) is Pokemon Y. IMO if you actually plan on getting other games (or a flash cart that supports 3DS games appears one day) it might be worth it, but if you plan on getting one only for a 6th gen game it's not really worth it. if you can find a hella cheap pre-owned one I guess that's cool :/.

tl;dr not worth it if you only want to play a 6th gen game.

OH, and older Nintendo DS games aren't stretched across the whole screen (they have black bars on both sides on the top screen.) Plus (maybe it's only me??) I feel like older DS games look really pixelated on the top screen :/.

I've updated the 3DS discussion thread in TGL which I believe this should have been posted in to begin with (see PKG's first reply). It's probably wise to continue this thread there as not only does this thread belong in TGL, it's essentially a cut out version of what the discussion thread is as a whole.

The other half of the story:

1. Boyfriend bought another 3DS, even when he thought he wouldn't use it much.
2. Boyfriend got hooked on Wonder Trade.

Yup, you'll just find more ways to use it.
