Confused as to why anyone would make a bet other than this, so to quote Dr. Zoidberg... "Large bet on myself in the first round"

Unless I'm missing something, we aren't allowed to buy pokemon yet right? So why aren't people betting all of their points? If you lose this round, it's not as though you can use the points you didn't bet... So why aren't people just putting it all on themselves to win? Unless you're just going for the "fun" factor of betting on other people... Last time I checked though, people on Smogon were looking for the smartest thing to do, not the most fun.
 
Because if your prediction is wrong, you lose the points that you bet......?

the tournament is double elimination, if that's what confused you.
