5 Minute Sandstorm

5 Minute Sandstorm

sand_storm.jpg

Introduction

Once upon a time, a clueless pokemon player thought that rain was more broken than sandstorm.
He said, "Why don't you see if you can beat my rain team with a sandstorm team?"
So I began to create the team, and in 5 minutes I was finished. No big accomplishment, considering I just took the first 6 pokemon in the top usage chart. The battle was completed, and one of us came out mad.

A few notes about this team: please bear in mind that it was made in 5 minutes, so I pretty much put together some random sets. This is the first sandstorm team I have made; I usually make rain teams. I guarantee you that if you use this team you can get top 30 in any OU ladder; it doesn't take that much thought to use either.

The Team

gbc248.gif

ban me (Tyranitar) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Stream
EVs: 252 HP / 108 Atk / 148 SDef
Adamant Nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Pursuit
- Crunch
- Stone Edge

Tyranitar is no doubt the more superior of the two sandstorm inducers. Boasting amazing bulk as well as offense, his BST reaches 600, one of the highest in the metagame. Not only is he one of the best stealth rock setters in the game, he is also the best pursuiter. Crunch is Tyranitar's most reliable STAB, while Stone edge pretty much spells doom for Sun teams.

445-m.png

ban me (Garchomp) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Swords Dance
- Substitute
- Outrage
- Earthquake

Oh no, don't ban me. I'm only the most abusive pokemon in the current metagame.
Counter to Garchomp? Nonexistent. With all moves having less than 80 accuracy, Garchomp can easily substitute until a miss and setup or use one of his overpowered STAB moves. Skarmory? +2 Outrage knocks 40 % onto the most defensive sets. Spikes? (see Doryuuzu)

nattorei_by_thedarkbrawler90-d2zvcqo.png

ban me (Nattorei) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Curse
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
- Power Whip

This pokemon single handedly murders rain teams, because its only notable weakness is weakened. Otherwise, Nattorei is free to setup once you are guaranteed that Fire types are out of the game (being a sandstorm team, this job is ridiculously easy). Bring Nattorei in on something which cannot do significant damage to it, and start setting up curses. With its amazing Sp defense stat, it has many opportunities to setup. 1 curse raises Gyro Ball to 150 base power (225 with STAB). Leech seed is to help Nattorei recover when its HP runs low.

randorosu-ow.png

ban me (Randorosu) (M) @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Sand Power
EVs: 252 Atk / 176 SAtk / 80 Spd
Naughty Nature (+Atk, -SDef)
- U-turn
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
- Hidden Power [Ice]

Sand Power Earthquake under Randorosu is monstrous. This set not only acts as a scout in the beginning of the game, but can sweep Ground-ridden pokemon in the end of the game. Hidden Power Ice is for those pesky Gliscors who think they can wall every single sandstorm threat in the world. It is also for those very specific times when a Stone Edge miss may cost the game, and the opponent is in the HP Ice KO range.

PillowDoryuuzu.gif

ban me (Doryuuzu) (M) @ Leftovers
Trait: Sand Throw
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 Def
Impish Nature (+Def, -SAtk)
- Rapid Spin
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Rock Slide

Best rapid spinner hands down. In a metagame where people struggle to find spinners who can reliably spin on Nattorei, Doryuuzu reigns supreme. Doryuuzu's bulk tends to be disregarded over its offensive capabilities, but I find that Doryuuzu is best when bulky. His ability to force switches makes it easy to rapid spin at any point of time. He can defeat any anti rapid spinner with a +2 Earthquake/ Rock Slide. He reaches 424 speed and 302 attack with no investment at all. Doryuuzu can even act as a sweeper when necessary. Swords Dance immediately putting his attacks into the 600s can already OHKO many commonly used pokemon.

Taboo_the_Rankurusu_by_Puffy326.png

ban me (Rankurusu) (M) @ Flame Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Def / 4 SDef
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Trick
- Calm Mind
- Recover
- Psychic

Unstoppable set right here. All of Rankurusu's supposed counters are stopped cold. Scizor can deal 50% with its bug bite before receiving a flame orb. Jirachi can only paralyze Rankurusu before it receives a flame orb. Tyranitar cannot do more than 40% damage after receiving a flame orb. Trick choice users burn themselves, and Rankurusu has another chance to ruin another set of the opponents by tricking the choice items back. I also tend to trick it to the opponent, and trick it back so that it can be reused later. After that, its just calm mind recover and psychic till you win.

In a team with 5 unstoppable sweepers, one has to be successful. Which one entirely depends on the opponents team, because they cannot wall them all.

Oh and unban me plz

full offense teams dont have as much synergy as they should, but work well all the same.

really cause all it takes is a victini death gambit lead and either politoed/ninetails/abomasnow to crush this team. The only reason this team would do so well is that it HEAVILY relies on sandstorm all a guy has to do is get rid of the weather and you are in trouble. Instead of having 4 guys that require weather make some that can live without it

haha. One of the reasons sandstorm is so overused is because its the easiest weather to keep over others. Stone edge from tyranitar ohko's ninetales and abomasnow, while Politoed will have to continually take stealth rock to change weather. None of my pokemon are completely reliant on weather, notably rankurusu, nattorei, and randorosu.

dude did you not see what i said. I said VICTINI DEATH GAMBIT LEAD. that kills T-tar and then they are free to change the weather all they want.

lol. Since when does victini have shadow tag? Switch out!

Dude its a move smart one. Why dont you look it up. You make it sounde like you know every set of every pokemon. This team could easily get crushed by a scarf pokemon or a band/spec pokemon plus there is the above method i said that could easily screw your team. Also a conkeldurr could screw your team if it leads.

Conkeldurr only kills Tyranitar easily and Excadrill. Also think before you post. Death Gambit is easily avoidable by switching to something you don't mind loosing or near loosing. How does it get "easily get crushed by a scarf pokemon or a band/spec pokemon"? This sounded so stupid I laughed. Band/ Specs won't make a huge difference.

For the actual team most natures should be changed. Garchomp to Jolly, Landorus to Adamant or Jolly (Depending on priorities), Excadrill to Adamant, and Reuniclus to Quiet and holding Life Orb due to it having no recoil with Magic Guard.

It looks like if Volcarona if given a turn to set up could cause serious problems for your team. It can set up on rank as it dosen't mind a burn and can still pulverize you with a bug buzz even if you calm mind. Might wanna run enough speed on dory or Rand to outspeed +1 Volc. Course you can always play around it and keep SR up, but thats the only thing I can see, I enjoy the bulky chomp and especially bulky dory I wanna try those now :D Overall Cool team.

How does this team beat Skarmory? It seems like it can effortlessly wall Tyranitar, Landlos, Excadrill, Garchomp, and if it has Taunt, Ferrothorn. I guess you can try to burn it with Reuniclus, but that's not a reliable solution at all.

One thing you can do is put Fire Blast over Stone Edge on Tyranitar. This probably isn't enough, though. I would also suggest placing Fire Blast over Substitute on Garchomp as well since it can lure in and 2HKO physical Skarm.

The spreads you have on Excadrill and Garchomp are...interesting, but what do they accomplish? I guess it allows them to live some priority attacks, but with no EVs in attack, it's harder to damage walls like Ferrothorn. On Garchomp you should try a spread of 252 HP/96 Atk/160 Spe Adamant, which lets it be reasonably bulky and pack a bit of a punch. 160 Speed is enough to outspeed Adamant Lucario and Timid Heatran. On Excadrill, you should use 252 Atk/92 Def/164 Spe Adamant to outspeed Timid Deoxys-e (or simply Max Atk/Max Spe Adamant if you want to tie other Dory). Remember, Excadrill will not always be able to boost and it needs all the power and speed it can get to revenge stuff.

I had a huge post, but smogon went offline or something. Basically I said

Conkeldurr, scrafty, Volcarona are threats to your team, so I suggest Restalk Gyarados. With either roar or dragon tail and waterfall. It depends on if you want to hit through substitutes and the accuracy/damage thing. And put spikes on ferrothorn so that you can do more damage via phazing with gyara.

there's really little point in using curse since it only lets you beat rain that much more thoroughly. But it leaves you vulnerable to other things.

This team is so scrafty weak it isn't even funny. As soon as landorus dies it's gg. He can set up on anything other than landorus and excadrill and OHKO everything with drain punch, crunch, and ice punch. Reuniclus can't even touch him because shed skin heal's its status.

To remedy I recommend putting a conkeldurr over your garchomp. Unless you let it get to +3 or +4, it can't OHKO you, but you can OHKO with drain punch.

Also for ttar, give him a sassy nature with 252 HP 176 Sp.D and the rest in SP. A. He should have a moveset of SR, pursuit, fire blast, and ice beam.

Ferrothorn looks good, you may want to consider spikes over leech seed but that's only a nitpick.

Landorus has a good moveset, but give it 252 attack and 252 speed with a jolly or naive nature. HP ice is going to be OHKOing gliscor no matter what, and tying other landorus is always good.

*facepalm* Your excadrill set is awful. And you don't need rapid spin support. Give him an air balloon and a jolly nature with max attack and speed. He should have the following moveset: Swords dance, EQ, rock slide, and x-scissor.

Your reuniclus set needs some adjusting as well. Give it lefties or LO and put focus blast over trick. The Evs look fine.

This team obviously looks like a ragtag team of the top 10 threats thrown together, but whatever floats your boat. Good luck!

Addressing some things mentioned:

Scrafty: Switch in Randorosu and EQ. if doesn't kill, then doryuuzu EQ.

Skarmory: Walled by doryuuzu

Volcarona cant ohko ttar, but gets OHKO'd in return.

Gliscor: investment in sp attack perfectly puts hp ice into the 100% range for killing gliscor. hp ice doesnt always kill gliscor you know...

just for the record, it is the top 6 threats thrown together lol.

but if you really want to use this team for fun,
you can always try endeavor donphan. takes care of all the threats you mention anyways... and doryuuzu always gets the spin
