Hi guys, so here is my first post on Smogon. I thought it would be good to post a team of some kind, so I decided to post this OU team I've been Using. As far as I know, not many threats in the OU metagame have given me much trouble.
Achieving a ranking of #15 on the PO Smogon server felt really good. I stopped using this team once i got the rank #15 and been playing a lot of UU. I decided to retire this team, and get it out there for other people to use and/or test. Without further ado, here is the team!
Bronzong @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EV's: 252 HP / 88 Atk / 72 Def / 8 SAtk / 88 SDef
Sassy Nature ( + SDef - Spd)
- Stealth Rock
- Hidden Power (Ice)
- Earthquake
- Toxic
I'm using Bronzong as a lead now because not only can it set up stealth rocks, It can take hits on both sides of the spectrum. I can take a couple of Outrages from powerful CB Dragons, mainly Dragonite and Haxorus. Since I needed a pokemon who could take special hits (I got rid of Jirachi), I thought that Bronzong was a viable option as it can hit pretty hard as well as take hits better than Heatran could. Hidden Power Ice is here to hit not only dragons, but other big threats in OU such as Landorus and Air Balloon Excadrill; the latter is then 2HKO'd by EQ. I use Toxic over Gyro Ball because It doesn't provide much better coverage and despite it hitting hard with Bronzongs low speed and STAB, I wanted more status on my team and something to cripple walls or other bulky pokemon. I use the standard tank EV spread which I altered a bit, just to mazimize the defensive and offensive capabilities of Bronzong.
Virizion @ Leftovers
Trait: Justified
EV's: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+ Spd - SAtk)
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power (Ice)
So here is Virizion, the Special Sweeper of my team. I changed the set to a special set as I needed something to hurt Gliscor better as it could take any of my attacks and 2HKO with an Ice Fang, but I also needed a Special Sweeper so I could wreck my opponent with Dragonite and Virizion, respectively. This set is standard, but it gets the job done. It gets good coverage, but being incapable of hitting Volcarona for good damage is annoying, and Volc could potentially set up a Quiver Dance or 2, and wreck shop on my team. However, I hardly ever see HP Ground on a Volcarona, so hopefully I should be OK. Giga Drain and Focus Blast are really useful moves nowadays as not only do they get STAB, but Rain Stall has thrived in OU ever since the banning of Excadrill and Thundurus. HP Ice is to hit Dragons and Things like Celebi which is actually pretty threatening now. All in all, Virizion is amazing.
Gliscor @ Toxic Orb
Trait: Poison Heal
EV's: 252 / 40 Def / 216 Spd
Impish Nature (+ Def - SAtk)
- Substitute
- Toxic
- Earthquake
- Protect
Due to the fact that Excadrill is an uber on Smogon now, I can use this SubToxic set again safely.
Few sets match this one in terms of pure FFFF factor. With Poison Heal and Protect, Gliscor has the potential to be one of the most annoying and effective Toxic stallers in the game. Plenty of traditional Gliscor counters are vulnerable to poison damage, leaving them helpless against the strategy behind this set.
I Just switch in on a physical attacker and safely set up a Substitute. Common switch-ins like Rotom-W or other bulky Waters will be outsped and poisoned. From that point on, it's basically a matter of wearing them down from Toxic damage. I now run Jolly and 216 Speed EV's to outspeed Jolly Lucario and as long as it doesn't have air balloon, I can EQ it to death. Earthquake is my only attacking move, but it's good against opponents weak to Ground.
Dragonite @ Choice Band
Trait: Multiscale
EV's: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Adamant Nature ( + Atk - SAtk)
- Outrage
- ExtremeSpeed
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
So I replaced my Latias with a Dragonite because, man, it does a lot of work. It can hit really hard right off the bat, and gets really great coverage as well as a powerful priority move ;). Dragonite can also hand most Rain and Sun teams well. Outrage is the strongest move on this set, 2HKOing nearly everything in the OU Metagame. ExtremeSpeed can be used to pick off frail pokes who may take entry hazard damage as well as a bit of prior damage. Like I said before, Dragonite gets great coverage with EQ and Fire Punch. EQ can check Jirachi's that usually run special walls sets, whilst Fire Punch can OHKO Ferrothorn and 2HKO Skarm after SR damage. One thing to mention is that since most people may use pokemon that set up entry hazards first (Team Preview), Dragonite can work effectively as a lead; Forretress, Ferrothorn, Skarmory, Tyranitar, etc are all common hazard users and Dragonite can deal with the formers by using Fire punch, while the latter is OHKO'd by EQ.
Heatran @ Choice Scarf
Trait: Flash Fire
EV's: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature ( + Spd - Atk)
- Fire Blast
- Earth Power
- Dragon Pulse
- Hidden Power (Grass)
Since CB Haxorus and SD Lucario are some of the biggest threats to this team, I finally found a check to these threats in Chice Scarf Heatran. A good thing about Scarfed heatran is that lots of players don't expect it and I calculated that CB Haxorus' Outrage 2HKO's Heatran. Since It's a 2HKO, lots of players will stay in and try to KO Heatran with another Outrage, thus allowing me to Dragon Pulse the Haxorus for the KO (I think that's the case anyway). Overheat can hit hard with a high SAtk stat, Earth Power can hit steel and fire types that are common in the OU Metagame. Dragon pulse is for more coverage and to hit the dragons that dominate the metagame too. HP Grass is to hit Gastrodons, Quagsires, Swamperts, Jellicents, etc for lots of damage and other bulky waters for good damage.
Rotom-W @ Leftovers
Trait: Levitate
EV's: 112 HP / 252 SAtk / 144 Spd
Modest Nature (+ SAtk - Atk)
- Volt Switch
- Hydro Pump
- Will-O-Wisp
- Pain Split
And finally, we have Rotom, the final pokemon on my team. I changed the set to the Standard set as I can take hits nicely and hit back hard with either one of my STAB attacks (I can also get switch advantage with Volt Switch). Will-O-Wisp is to cripply Physical attackers that could injure my team badly; I may use will-o when I predict a switch to something like Dragonite or Haxorus.
Pain Split is to gain my HP back which I tend to use against things such as Chansey or Blissey due to their high HP stat. Hydro Pump hits a lot of stuff in OU for high amounts of damage, such as Fire, Ground and Rock types and some frail attackers that don't like taking hits from powerful moves.
So this is the team guys, I hope you liked it, If so, tell me what your opinions are on it, see if there is anything that I could change, and peace!
NOTE: Threatlist coming soon.
