Metagame 6v6 Doubles Draft - Format Discussion

Based OP largely off of the USUM Draft Thread (by fortunate sun) and written mostly by zoe

Since 6v6 Doubles Draft (need to find a better name for this...) had a successful individual tournament and since the trios tournament to be hosted soon now's the best time as any for me to make this thread! I'll update this with information as time goes on, as one tournament post Indigo Disk isn't exactly the best sample size for a meta analysis.

Current Tier List

Any Pokemon you draft can Tera, but Tera Preview is enforced.
  • Drafting will take place in the DOU Discord, so joining it is required for participation!
  • You have up to 90 points with which to draft 8 Pokémon. Costs are listed on your pool’s tab on the drafting spreadsheet.
  • If a Pokemon is picked by someone else, you may not pick it.
  • For the first round, there is a 12 hour timer. After the first round ends, there will be a continuous 6 hour timer within which you must pick, or you will be skipped, and will be required to make-up your pick when you are next online. All timers are off between 10pm-7am local time (check your pool's pinned message for local time).
  • Your timer will halve every time you are skipped. It is recommended to leave picks (with backups) with your pool moderator to avoid this.
  • The following Pokémon have access to all of their forms (although you may only bring up to 1 to each battle):
    - Pikachu
    - Basculin
    - Oricorio
  • Smogon's Species Clause applies to your draft.
  • All games must be played in the 6v6 Doubles Draft with Tera Type Preview on either smogtours.psim.us or psim.us.
  • All sets are best-of-one.
  • The following rules and clauses are in place
    • Endless Battle Clause: Players cannot use any moveset on any Pokémon capable of intentionally causing an endless battle. Thus:
      • A Pokémon may not carry Recycle and hold a Leppa Berry in conjunction with Heal Pulse and Milk Drink, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Recover, Roost, Slack Off, Soft-Boiled, or Wish.
      • A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Pain Split.
      • A Pokémon may not hold a Leppa Berry while carrying Recycle and Fling
    • Evasion Clause: Players cannot use the moves Double Team or Minimize.
    • OHKO Clause: Players cannot use the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold.
    • Species Clause: Players cannot have two Pokémon with the same Pokédex number on the same team.
    • Gravity Sleep Clause: Sleep moves with below one hundred percent accuracy may not be used in conjunction with Gravity.
  • Dark Void and Last Respects are banned.
  • You can only use Pokemon you drafted, if it wasn't clear.

Super excited! Thanks to everyone who did the hard work of tiering all the mons. Two questions / ideas:
1. Why best of 1 and not best of 3 (with team lock)? Seems low-cost since there's no extra building and potentially more fun.
2. Why only 8 pokemon? Most draft leagues I've seen are around 10 mons per player... the total draft size being only 2 mons higher than the weekly team size seems a bit small

Hey, we went bo1 mainly to differentiate it from VGC draft that uses BO3. In the future I think BO3 could be interesting and we could definitely attempt to run a tour with it! As for 8 pokemon, we modeled it off of the Draft League subforum's 8 pokemon model, as this is what most team tour style leagues use.

The Urshifu forms are not separate, it does not matter(?) but which one was the one with 3 DNB?
Why is volcanion 19
Both forms were voted banned, rapid was the one with 3. I edited the post make it more clear.

Volcanion is a pokemon in draft that is extremely hard to prep against due to its very high bulk, great stabs, and good support movepool. It's consistently done well when included in VGC draft tours so we expect it to translate over to DOU

Additonally, why is Dondozo 11 but Tatsugiri way higher? I feel like it should be the other way around, I've seen Solo Dozo on more teams than Tatsu (Even though I have never seen Solo Tatsugiri, ever.)
I feel like Clefairy could be higher? Friend Guard is broken, and every time i've seen it in doubles draft it's gotten absolutely insane value.
Let me know if I shouldn't be asking stuff like this in this thread and instead in the discord btw

Asking here is fine ! That's what this thread is for.
Dondozo is lower than tatsugiri to make the commander at an appropriate price while not overly taxing dondozo. As you mentioned solo dondozo is more common, so letting dondozo be at an appropriate price encourages it to picked up. Tatsugiri being higher doesn't affect much as it is almost never drafted unless it is for commander.
As for clefairy, you're correct it is very good and its ability is very useful. However it can be more difficult to fit on teams in the 8 pokemon format due to it only having 1 role, and very minimal damage output.
