7-star Tera Normal Porygon2 raid event (June 5-15)

Sudden surprise shadow same-day statement for the Switch 2 release, following the Porygon outbreaks conspicuously ending on Thursday, just an hour (now half-hour) before the raid drops to interrupt the announced pseudo wave so far.

Any bets on if they'll give it Eviolite, or other last-hour thoughts?

EDIT: I'll just throw my prediction out. I think this one is just going to be based around Analytic (back to HA again + the most consistent option) with Tri Attack as main STAB, Shadow Ball for ghosts, and maybe Psychic/BoltBeam coverage for whatever else you can do with Porygon2's moveset. It's a pretty shallow one and feels more for fun, but it can cover the main Normal weaknesses. There really aren't that many boosting opportunities, other than Charge Beam.

If they really wanted to be mean they could ramp up the HP multiplier, add Eviolite and a scripted Defense Curl and Charge to stack some defense buffs. Or maybe some weird Recycle spam set, I don't know if they'd go that far though. Shame Porygon2 can't take advantage of its whole type changing gimmick in this format.

I think this will probably be a "joke" 7 star in the vein of Eevee or Pikachu (though Pikachu could at least hit hard)

If they just want to commit to the Switch 2 theme I would hope to see it lead with Agility but I could still see the full HP shield returning for a specifically tanky boss.

Well, Porygon2 didn't put that much of a fight as expected, or I would've said that if it didn't freeze me 3 times. I guess that's what I get for still playing on the Switch 1.

Somehow this was still a winning attempt, but just barely despite every attempt of Porygon2 to sabotage me.

As usual, Azumarill's set is pretty standard 252 HP/252 Attack stuff. Amnesia and Mud-Slap return for mostly free setup. Annoyingly Porygon2 can tend to use Ice Beam over Tri Attack or Thunderbolt at times though which paid off for it this time.

My on-the-fly strategy was to Belly Drum T1 and try to faint to preserve both cheers, which I think I managed to do by turn 3 because of two Ice Beam usages. Then I waited out the timer until 70% time to be able to set up Amnesia permanently after the buff reset (while also outspeeding thanks to Trick Room). Unfortunately this was when it started freezing me. I heal cheered one Ice Beam, waited to naturally thaw out of the second, and heal cheered the third.

Thankfully Gardevoir's Life Dew was keeping me healthy and NPC Garganacl is immune to status plus debuffs speed with Rock Tomb, so I ended up outspeeding even after Trick Room. Unfortunately Synchronize doesn't synchronize freeze because I think I saw Gardevoir get frozen T1.

So I ended up going for 2 Amnesias, then setting 3 Mud-Slaps for tera charge (not caring about the tera charge steal since I was dead and also didn't attack), then tera'd into Belly Drum and started my onslaught with much less time on the clock than I would've liked. Going Tera Fairy makes you take less from Thunderbolt but more from Ice Beam and I think it started Tri Attacking at this point, I don't know. I still saw Ice Beams too.

Also since I'm back to not using 100% accurate Tera Blast, I missed 2 Play Roughs because all the 10% procs decided to collude today.

It also doubled me with a random Psychic that procced the SpD drop to waste more time.

I thought it was all but over when my next Play Rough didn't kill and the timer ran out of time and disappeared...

But suddenly it faded back in and let me mash in a last move to win anyway?

So this solo was more of a mess for Azumarill all around, but we limped over the finish line on a technicality. I guess it made it more clutch than most clears would have ended up otherwise, and winning through it all meant I get to actually show all of that happening in one post.

:SV/Polteageist:

Polteageist @ Leftovers
Ability: Weak Armor
Tera Type: Stellar
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Skill Swap
- Light Screen
- Foul Play / Strength Sap
- Aromatic Mist

Sounds like a good time to bring out the classics. If there are any physical attackers in the squad, Skill Swapping Weak Armor onto P2 will leave them very vulnerable for the whole raid. And taking away Analytic is a plus. Other than that, Polteageist mainly uses its fantastic Special Defense to tank and buff up others. Foul Play can be used for minimal chip and activating Weak Armor. Strength Sap could be used for healing but I'd assume heal cheers will also suffice.

Solo-wise this raid is pretty free with Drain Punch spam, or so I hear. I haven't really been looking that much into it but I feel like Covert Cloak is safer than Metronome and still works about as well.

Raid script details from https://stevecooktu.github.io/sv_raid_lookup/. Pretty much just here to add on the more niche info by noting that the raid is 570s long/9.5 minutes, shield size is 40% HP, and the 50% rate double attack phase kicks in at 40% HP as usual still with a telegraphed action.

I think the biggest sign of a raid being not difficult is when they throw in the tera charge steal action. Trick Room is thematic enough to both Porygon2 and a metaphor for SV running on the Switch 2 at least. Thunderbolt being the TM fits with the electric theme along with Discharge? Maybe I'm reading too much into the Switch 2 theming here, but I respect the commitment to the whole event and outbreak still.

Honestly Porygon2 is a cool mon of its own and I like that it gets some kind of optimized boss fight and title. It deserved better than its main game 6-star raid representation moveset being Tri Attack/Discharge/Agility/Psybeam, which is unchanged from its 5-star moveset. And I also just noticed that Porygon-Z also has the exact same moveset as a 5-star and 6-star, not to mention its raid script is just Porygon2's but with the buff reset swapped with a debuff reset and it still uses Trick Room. So maybe this event raid is more of an apology for not actually making a real boss for the Porygon line until now.

Also I just realized this could have potentially been a great tera Stellar raid candidate. Not that it would happen because DLC, but they had the excuse to patch it in with a new update, and it would get people playing and farming on the Switch 2 for a reason. I don't know, I guess an easier raid is nothing to complain about either.

Lastly, Nrom7 from discord cleared with Tera Fighting Marill and provided full set details.

Marill - Shell Bell
Huge Power
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
  • Brick Break,
  • Belly Drum,
  • Amnesia,
  • Mud-Slap

Solo'ed first try with good ol' Iron Hands. NPC Bellibolt, Sylveon, and Arboliva were actually solid here, providing support with Light Screen, Moonblast SpA drops, and Safeguard/Grassy Terrain healing. Despite the weakness to Psychic, and managing to avoid any SpD drops, this was a relatively easy clear, without dying once. Forgot to change the item and EVs but it didn't matter.

:SV/Iron-Hands:
Iron Hands @ Shell Bell
Ability: Quark Drive
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SpD
Adamant Nature
- Drain Punch
- Swords Dance
- Focus Energy
- Electric Terrain (unused due to Arboliva)

Something about the symbolic stand-in for the new console using Discharge and having a slow Trick Room build is really funny to me. :totodiLUL:

I didn’t even know about this raid event, but this and the presumable Switch 2 theming behind it is pretty clever. I’ll give Nintendo and Game Freak that. It does worry me for the future, though. Not about the Switch 2, though. Rather, whatever is coming after it. My Switch Z is probably going to come with some kind of virus. I knew I shouldn’t have preordered it off of that dubious website…

Another easy mon to use for this:

Scrafty @ Leftovers
Ability: Shed Skin
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Amnesia
- Swords Dance
- Drain Punch
- High Jump Kick / Close Combat / Brick Break

Self-explanatory.
Amnesia to boost your Special Defense and take hits comfortably, especially when you tera fight.
Swords Dance to boost your attack and thus indirectly boosting your healing from Drain Punch.
In the last slot it depends on what you want. High Jump Kick has more power to tear down things when you're tera'ed at +6 but it has a 10% chance to loose half health. Close Combat is accurate but you drop your SpD by 1 stage (which you can remedy with Amnesia). Brick Break is the weaker but safer option with no bad side effect.
Shed Skin as the only useful ability here has the great bonus of clearing the status condition hax by itself (33% chance each turn).

So instead of just doing the normal Upgrade to get a Switch 2 you went the way of Dubious? You'll get a Switch-Z instead.

Can confirm this is the perfect support for this raid. Great mix of defensive help and progress-making. I use Covert Cloak to dodge all the hax, though.

Solo'd with Iron Hands, as well.

Beat it in my third attempt with this Magnezone set:

Menu_HOME_0462.png

Magnezone @ Shell Bell
Ability: Analytic
Level: 100
Tera Type: Stellar
EVs: 252 HP / 164 Def / 92 SpD
Relaxed Nature
IVs: 25 Atk / 2 Spe
- Body Press
- Iron Defense
- Eerie Impulse
- Light Screen (can be changed for something else)

Magnezone resists everything that P2 can throw at it and it can set up in its face with ease. The idea behind this set is to use its lower Speed both inside TR to lower P2's SpA with Eerie Impulse or Light Screen to ease set-up, and outside TR to threaten it with its own Analytic-boosted Body Presses. I got the best partners I could've asked for in my win (Garde, Bellibolt, Mudsdale) so I didn't have to suffer that much with it and P2 only froze me once + a couple of crits. Unfortunately I couldn't use Analytic that much and I missed its extra power due to Bellibolt lowering P2's Speed in one way or another. Magnezone is a solid option for this raid, but this set can be refined to be way better and optimal since this is pretty much the first thing that came to my head when theorymonning for this raid lol. The EVs make sure that Tri Attack is a 5HKO while also giving Body Press a reasonable damage output.

:sv/crabominable:
Crabominable @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Iron Fist
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpD
Brave Nature
- Drain Punch
- Amnesia
- Bulk Up
- Rock Smash

really rude of them to drop a raid when I was at Pokemon League tbh!

I was trying Annihilape for a bit but I kept running into the issue of just dying after the buff clear, so I looked for something that could boost its Special Defense. Crabominable is a pretty solid pick; you get to Amnesia immediately and soak up the only turns where you're consistently faster, and then you take little enough damage that it's smooth sailing. The fourth move doesn't really matter, but Bulk Up will matter to heal to full after the buff clear and finish the fight in a timely manner.

Some other supports I’ve used:

:Sableye:
Sableye @ Leftovers
Ability: Stall
Tera Type: Dark
EVs: 252 HP / 4 SpA / 252 SpD
Calm Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Skill Swap
- Light Screen
- Snarl
- Helping Hand

Ran into this online and had to try it. Sableye’s Stall ability finally has a purpose lmao. You Skill Swap it to Porygon2 and it doesn’t matter if Trick Room is up, the boss will always go second. Light Screen and Snarl for survivability, and Helping Hand for progress. You can get away with Leftovers over Cloak since even if you’re paralyzed by Thunderbolt, P2 will still go second thanks to Stall.

:salazzle:
Salazzle @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Corrosion
Tera Type: Steel
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Sassy Nature
- Skitter Smack
- Mud-Slap
- Fire Lash
- Rest

This one’s risky, as even with max bulk, Psychic does a lot to you, so I’d run this alongside another support. That being said, Fire Lash is still nice for progress-making alongside fighting types. If you can get enough moves off to build Tera, Steel-type alleviates the issues with Salazzle’s survivability.

:Zapdos-Galar:
Zapdos-Galar @ Covert Cloak
Ability: Defiant
Tera Type: Fighting
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Atk / 252 SpD
Careful Nature
- Light Screen
- Thunderous Kick
- Rest
- Helping Hand / Coaching / Bulk Up

Similar to Salazzle, uses Thunderous Kick to lower Defense, but as a Fighting-type with high Attack, you can make progress yourself, too. It can be risky due to three weaknesses, but alongside another support, you’ll do fine. Last slot is filler tbh, the first 3 moves are all you really need.

Haven’t used it yet, but :Grumpig: is also good. Simple Beam + Snarl completely fucks up P2. Used my Gapdos alongside one online and my Thunderous Kicks lowered Defense by 2, as well.
