The team at a glance...
Each poke in depth...
Mienshao@choice scarf
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 4 hp, 252 atk, 252 spe
High Jump Kick
U-Turn
Acrobatics
Stone Edge
Every team needs a choice scarfer, in my opinion, and mienshao is not only one of the best, but he's one of my favorite pokemon in any tier, so this was kind of a given. Scouts, revenge kills, and occasionally late-game sweeps.
Chandelure@leftovers
Ability: Flash Fire
Nature: Timid
EVs: 4 hp, 252 spa, 252 spe
Substitute
Wil-O-Wisp
Fire Blast
Shadow Ball
Surprise, it's the sub-set! I can't believe how many people get caught off guard, and switch to a would be counter that ends up either dying or taking a significant amount of damage because they have to break the sub first. Also good for spin-blocking and switching into the fighting moves that plague me, although a well-guessed stone edge is always a concern. This guy is hilariously effective against sucker punchers too ;)
Umbreon@leftovers
Ability: Syncronize
Nature: Calm
EVs: 252 hp, 4 def, 252 spd
Foul Play
Wish
Protect
Heal Bell
The Blissey of UU, cleric of this team, and frequent MvP. Walls all kinds of things, helps to keep the party healthy or offer semi-safe switch ins by healing off the incoming attack, and most importantly, heal bell for when crobat and/or rhyperior get burned or something horrible like that. Foul Play hurts a lot of things for a surprising amount of damage without any investment, and it's so adorable!
Rhyperior@leftovers
Ability: Rock Solid
Nature: Adamant
EVs: 248 hp, 16 atk, 244 spd
Rock Blast
Earthquake
Stealth Rock
Dragon Tail
Tank, stealth rocker, and on rare occasion, racks up stealth rock damage or ruins non-sub setup sweepers with dragon tail. It's unfortunate that there are so many violent grass moves out there, including HP grass on things I'd WANT to use Rhyperior to switch into, like Zapdos, but what can you do. Sometimes I wonder if Gligar would be a better option, for the extra fighting resist, neutrality to rock and grass, etc, but this team already lacks offense as is, and I've never had much success with Gligar, so I dunno.
Blastoise@leftovers
Ability: Torrent
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 hp, 252 def, 4 spd
Scald
Roar
Rapid Spin
Foresight
Rapid spinner, and occasional phaser. Sometimes he feels like a wasted slot, and other games he saves me from some real bad games. Sometimes I don't feel like SR is an issue, and other games I have to switch to crobat so much SR is a real horror, so I keep him around, and even though scald doesn't burn for me as much as it does against me, sometimes it does help.
Crobat@Black Sludge
Ability: Inner Focus
Nature: Jolly
EVs: 176 hp, 192 atk, 4 spd, 136 spe
U-Turn
Brave Bird
Roost
Taunt
They call this the stall-breaker set for a reason, and this guy ends up being an unsuspected MvP a lot of the time. Crobat scares a lot of threats in the tier, completely ruins anyone trying to use any kind of scrafty set, and makes life miserable for calm minders and clerics.
Overall I've had a lot of success with this team, and very rarely feel like a loss is due to being out-teamed, and more to being out-played. As for threats, on paper Kingdra seems like he should be a big nightmare, but usually he doesn't give me a problem. Suicune and Slowbro are much bigger issues, although with Suicune a lot of the time I get lucky and they switch in on Chandel while he substitutes, and then can ruin Suicunes day with a shadowball or two. A well played Slowbro/Grass core gives me fits, and I've been tempted to try something like a choice specs Raikou as more of a cover-all creater of holes in the opposing team instead of Chandelure, but it would seem that whenever I do that, I end up missing the spin-blocking and fighting immunity. The only real good answer to Slowbro is Chandle, who can out-speed and OHKO, but if I switch into a TR or a Scald it's bad news. Crobat doesn't like to switch into scald or psyshock, so my only real option is to throw Umbreon at them and force them out, or Blastoise for a roar if they're the CM version. Slowbro is often one of the last pokemon in a team I ever kill, and he offers a relatively safe switch-in to the majority of my team. So, yeah, I dunno, thoughts and advice and other such rating shenanigans may now commence...
