I was reading mtr12's thread a couple days ago about Balanced Teams and OU. Now, most of my teams so far have been a mix of sweepers and walls or stall. With everyone raving about bulky sweeper teams in general, I just had to try it out.
Now, every time I have ever attempted a sweeper team, they never fared well. I could never get the right balance of types for resistances. However, this bulky sweeper teams seems to be working, but I have a feeling it could be better. Any help would be nice, guys, so shoot away.
Aerodactyl (F) @ Focus Sash
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spd
Jolly nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Stealth Rock
- Stone Edge
- Earthquake
The standard suicide Aerodactyl serves two purposes to me. One is the obvious Stealth Rock.
The second is a very important death fodder. If he can switch out (More than 25% is preferrable) after getting SR up, that'd be great. Not only does death fodder scout out switches and choice moves, but it stops a very dangerous explosion from hitting my sweepers.
---
Cresselia (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 HP/10 Spd/100 SAtk/148 SDef
Calm nature (+SDef, -Atk)
- Calm Mind
- Rest
- Reflect
- Psychic
I was enlightened to this very awesome set from a friend. With Reflect up, Cresselia takes physical hits like a beast, while Calm Mind covers special defense.
I have Psychic as my attack, which does leave me open to Tyranitar though. Which is why I have...
---
Machamp (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: No Guard
EVs: 252 HP/252 Atk/4 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Payback
- Dynamicpunch
This is here for a dark counter. Confusion is always welcome, as is Payback to hit obvious ghost switch-ins.
As for RestTalk, it has been reliable enough, but it has let me down. I would also consider Stone Edge, but the low PP is not desirable especially with DPunch.
---
Gyarados (F) @ Leftovers
Ability: Intimidate
EVs: 156 HP/108 Atk/100 Def/144 Spd
Adamant nature (+Atk, -SAtk)
- Taunt
- Stone Edge
- Waterfall
- Dragon Dance
I love Bulky Gyara. I love all the PHazers that switch in only to be Taunted letting me set up more. I really can't say much more, so I apologize at how short that was.
---
Suicune @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 40 HP/216 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Calm Mind
- Hidden Power [Electric]
I've never really liked Suicune. Lack of a good recovery for a wall just seemed too much a liability. Offensive Suicune on the other hand is a really good. A Calm Mind is easy to get, and a second isn't too much harder with it's great defensive.
I am running Leftovers, but Life Orb might be more useful. The recoil doesn't seem appealing though.
---
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 140 HP/116 Spd/252 SAtk
Modest nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Agility
- Thunderbolt
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Heat Wave
This was a hard choice for me. I originally had a AgiliGross, but I switch it to this. Offensive Zapdos still does decent as a Scizor counter, and getting an Agility isn't too hard. I tend to use this to try breaking open the midgame with it's good type coverage.
I am completely open to change this. Just throw your suggestions at me.
So that's the team. Bulky set-up sweepers galore. Gyarados and Suicune do give me a electric weakness, which isn't good, as I don't have a ground type. A good way to fix that would be appreciated.
Threats:
-Gengar, Gengar, and more Gengar! He absolutely destroys my team, especially if he's not choiced. Unless I catch it on the switch, it is not easy to take down a raging Gengar.
-Electivire - Is walled pretty decently by Cresselia, so it's not too much of a problem. Cress lasts pretty long, so I usually don't have to worry.
-Kingdra - A set up Kingdra is not fun at all to take down. I really can't let it get to that point.
-Rotom - A similar problem with Gengar, but the speed isn't as dangerous.
-Weavile - Night Slahes will hurt Cresselia. But it is a bit managable.
__________
So as I said, any suggestions are welcome. All the pokemon are replaceable, but I would rather keep the general gist of the team, if possible.
I apologize for the very bland looking post. I tried spicing it up, and it still looks horrible, so sorry.
Happy rating!
