Hello my fellow smogonites! About two weeks ago I posted a team that contained Kangaskhan and looking back I feel I might not have built the most cohesive team to actually show off my favorite mega's prowess. So I have thusly deleted the old thread and decided after major calcuations, notes, and fixes, I present to you not just a team, but a cohesive family group!
Kangaskhan
Holding: Kangaskhanite
Ev's: 252 Atk, 252 Sp, 4 Hp
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Scrappy
Moveset:
Return
Sucker Punch
Earthquake
Power up Punch
In detail~
Kangaskhan is still my favorite mega and in my opinion one of the most lethal. My ev's speciically make Kanga the main sweeper, I want as much attack as possible to cleanly KO anything in my path, and parental bond afterwards only furthers such success. I usually come in on a ghost type with my scrappy ability, like gengar for example to fire off a clean STAB return or Power up Punch. PuP is excellent for keeping momentum while raising attack at the same time and knocking out problematic ghosts before mega evolution is what I strive for. Sucker Punch is fantastic priority and added security should I fail to nab a ghost like gengar before losing my scrappy ability. Earthquake rounds out my coverage and I feel is not just a standard move, its added security against new threats like Speed Boost Scolipede.
Talonflame
Holding: Sky Plate
Ev's: 166 Hp, 252 Atk, 90 Sp
Nature: Adamant
Ability: Gale WingMoveset:
Bulk Up
Roost
Brave Bird
Flare Blitz
In detail~
Talonflame is my second sweeper and its prowess helps Kanga in fighting off annoying steels like mega mawile and scizor (who will someday get super power) that try and crush my star attraction. The ev's here give me both decent bulk and the speed to outclass Excadrill before it becomes too deadly. Gale wing I adore considering it gives me access to priority Roost for quick healing. This added with Sky Plate instead of life orb helps me escape wicked recoil that would otherwise end my Talonflame that much sooner. Bulk up is added as an underrated move, I feel that should be recognized as a better option over swords dance. Added defense is always helpful when folks like to think talonflame is so easily bowled over. And finally we mention Flare Blitz, my favorite answer against Ferrothorn, Scizor, and even Mega Mawile, can't go wrong with stopping steel hyrbids with priority or hazards.
Aegislash
Holding: Spooky Plate
Ev's: 252 Atk, 252 Sp Atk, 4 Hp
Ability: Stance Change
Nature: Adamant
Moveset:
Sacred Sword
Shadow Ball
Iron Head
Shadow Sneak
In depth:
I have been swayed in the loss of ferro for another steel, Aegislash. Aegi resists the fighting weakness of Kanga which I should have thought of before going anywhere with this team. The mixed set as recommended does have quite the potential for checking Kanga threats. The first of which is Sacred Sword which fights of Lucario, Scizor, and Ferrothorn looking to make trouble for my plans. Shadow Ball and Shadow Sneak are excellent for smashing Magic Bounce espeon, Gengar, and the new grass ghost baddies which is why I felt in favor of Spooky Plate over life orb. Iron Head takes the last slot as excellent STAB against faeries like Azumarill, Florges, Sylveon, and Togekiss. I can't stand the fairy type as cute as it looks simply because Moonblast and Play rough will dish out too much damage if left unchecked.
Rotom-W
Holding: Chesto Berry
Ev's: 252 Hp, 252 Sp Def, 4 Sp Def
Nature: Bold
Ability: Levitate
Moveset:
Hydro Pump
Thunderbolt
Wil o Wisp
Rest
In depth:
Rotom has been switched up in favor of a thoroughly bulky set to comfortably counter my biggest problems in the form of Gliscor, Togekiss, and Gyarados among others. A bold nature with bulky ev's allows me to tank hits and fire back with the more powerful thunderbolt. I did have Volt Switch here but often times I found myself wishing for a more powerful electric attack to finish off a threat rather than play musical chairs. Wil o Wisp now seeks to shutdown opposing Kanga and Conkeldurr, the latter of which I have been seeing quite often on the ladder oddly enough. Hydro Pump, I love its damage but not its misses that cause sever anguish when I miss at the wrong time, However the damage output does help in getting rid of pesky ttar's and volcaronas. The chesto resto combo lives on considering it is vital for a bulky mon to have as much hp to counter huge threats.
Mandibuzz
Holding: Leftovers
Ev's: 248 Hp, 252 Def, 8 SpDf
Nature: Bold
Ability: Overcoat
Moveset:
Taunt
Knock Off
Roost
Defog
In detail~
This is by far an undervalued threat in my opinion and I firmly believe Defog users will over take rapid spinners in the near OU future. I chose Mandi after countless scribbles and calculations that were bent on choosing between a rapid spinner and a defogger. In the end I chose the buzzard because she has incredible bulk, excellent utility, and defog is not resisted by anyone! Starting off with this moveset, the ev's chosen were one's I discovered by talking with many friends and battle mates about what exactly to give mandibuzz to fight in the current meta. You take a little from hp considering roost to bulk up Special defense and mandibuzz easily walls a few choice attacks and chomps down on priority fighters to take the hit and fire back with a nasty reply. Taunt is meant to fend off set up monsters, hazard setters like klefki, ferrothorn, tyranitar, and to keep nasty trevenants at bay so they don't cause to many leeching and cursing shenannigans.Foul play is a must if I fail to prevent a set up sweeper like Excadrill in hopes of using their new found attack prowess against them to keep my team ahead of the curve. Roost gives me peace of mind in surviving longer and annoying opponents who fail to one or two hit KO my buzzard. Defog is monstrous, its scary, I can only begin to wonder what this new found power will soon mean. Defog acts as a counter to all hazards and help against stall teams who utilize double screen users. Knock off has replaced Foul Play in favor of stopping sweepers from holding their life orbs and leftovers and all manner of similar items to decrease the longevity of my enemies.
Mamoswine
Holding: Life Orb
Ability: Thick Fat
Ev's: 252 Atk, 252 Hp, 4 Def
Nature: Adamant
Moveset:
Icicle Crash
Ice Shard
Earthquake
Stealth Rock
In depth:
I realize that during my ladder beginning that I was getting walled by togekiss and gliscor because hydro pump and stone edge were missing too often and I got tired of pesky fliers. In comes Mamoswine, this set was previewed by the community here by Colby I believe. Icicle crash gives me what I need in a strong ice move against gliscor and mega garchomp that threaten to wall or sweep me. Ice shard I desperately need because I realize my only other form of priority is Talonflames brave bird. I needed to take some of the pressure off of talonflame to give me better answers to dangerous speedy threats. Earthquake is a no brainer because I feel safer with at least two mons on all of my teams carrying this move to fend off pesky steels. During my ladder battles I was having a tough time fighting off shell smashers, baton passers, and speed boosting scolipede in particular and ended up losing because I never had an effective enough answer besides mandibuzz foul play, (which did nothing against special attack setups). Roar has been replaced by stealth rock with a life orb in order to turn mamo into an offensive lead capable of using its priority ice shard in order to stop key dragon threats.

Garchomp
Holding: Assault Vest
Ev's: 6 Hp, 252 Atk, 252 Sp
Nature: Jolly
Ability: Rough Skin
Moveset:
Outrage
Earthquake
Stone Edge
Fire Fang
(Realized I tossed chomp into this team without too much thought, temporarily setting him aside in favor of Mamoswine)
In depth:
Chomp has of late found its older sets to be difficult to hold onto considering fairy type, bulky sweepers, and in general better access to dragon slaying moves. By now in this team preview I have my two main sweepers that give me all I want in fighting potential but for the last slot I wanted to choose an unconventional garchomp of sorts. The ev's are meant for a physical smasher who seeks to outspeed key threats like excadrill, Charizard X, and similar monsters. I wanted to simply boost attack and speed to make more use of the gift that the assault vest delivers. Rough skin combined with assault vest should give you the impression that I want my garchomp to essentially walk into a room of chaos and handle danger with ease, absorbing hits, outspeeding threats, and knocking out potential dangers. Outrage is a last resort option as the set I am running has no berries for recovery and usually sees play towards the end of Chomp's usefulness. Earthquake takes the over stab slot to fend off steel types, tyranitars, and similar ground weak threats. Stone edge aims to work against opposing talonflame, noivern, and similar flying types that can become problematic if allowed to set up or utilize their fighting prowess to try and weaken my sweepers. Fire fang was added as a personal choice simply because I fear Scizor, ferrothorn, and mega mawile. Although Earthquake is already available, but then again steel has plenty of weaknesses to exploit.
Ferrothorn
Holding: Leftovers
Ev's: 252 Hp, 40 Def,216 SpD
Nature: Relaxed
Ability: Iron Barbs
Moveset:
Stealth Rock
Leech Seed
Gyro Ball
Protect
In detail~
Ferro is a favorite of mine for is massive utility. We start off with the fact that Ferrothorn as a steel/grass can check certain threats like Gastrodon, Quagsire, and even flying dragon types at times with his massive bulk and grass type Power Whip. Gyro Ball is in place for the damage I can dish out under 0 speed iv's in the face of opposing taunt users. Stealth rock exists as my check to Talonflame, Multi Scale Dragonite, Focus sash Mamoswine, and so one. It will always be my favorite hazard simply for the amount of pokemon in competitive play with a weakness to rock and I also hate both Sashes and the Sturdy ability so the rocks give Kanga an easier chance of not dealing with those types. (Although truthfully Parental Bond already breaks the aforementioned problems to begin with). Leech seed is not just a filler or standard fare, to me leech seed is just another protection for Kanga. Throwing leech seed around and switching Kanga or another team member in gives me a chance to keep my bulk, take back my lost hp, and simply smash face. Protect is here mainly because I like having the option to scout around. More to the point Lucario as an example is a curious foe of late. It continues to hold its mind games by being able to run either physical or special attacking prowess. I keep protect around to scout about the particular pokemon I want to know about and from the particular move they use I can more easily deduce the threat I'm dealing with.
Threat list:
Scizor: Bulky sets can absorb my hits and priority bullet punch back at my face to cause serious derailment of my plans.
Mega mawlie: Say what you like but swords dance priority sucker punch is no laughing matter. I fear for this mega evolution trying to beat me down or surviving my STAB hits if it invests in defensive capabilities.
Greninja: This frog means business, it can protean ice beam Papa Chomp, protean smack down Auntie Talon and sister Natasha, play scald burning tactics, grass knot my Kanga. Essentially this frog is a real pain and can carry a few varied sets.
Gyarados: Defensive Rotom now works to tank a hit and outclass this threat with better defenses.
The preview is now at an end and I thank you for taking the time to read this preview. Hopefully this new take on mega kangaskhan will prove to be an excellent strategy. I want to make this generation the best battling experience of my pokemon existene! Comments and suggestions are always welcome!
