A few questions about AR

I heard we can change pokemon nicknames (from pokemon I'm not the OT, obviously) using an AR. Is that true? Does it change the pokemon data? Is it legal?

Can cloning with AR screw your pokemon, or somehow change it's data or offspring code?

I was gonna post it on "quick answer" thread, but I reliazed there are too many and to specific questions, so I decided to post this thread.

Well, as for the nickname thing, I think you can change nicknames without messing up any data. Many people have been offering this service.

Cloning with AR does not screw up your Pokemon. Many people have cloned for me using AR, and no problems have occurred. In fact, 90% of the people around here clone with the AR. GTS cloners are only people who don't want a cheat device touching their monster (though it won't affect legitimacy).

As for the offspring code, I can't give an answer, as I have no clue. I don't own an AR, and am just giving you knowledge I gained by lurking around threads involving the topics you mentioned.

Hope this was helpful.

OMG NO HACKING IS EVIL GUYS!!!

Sorry.

Uh, yeah, things like a nick change and cloning can all be done "safely" with AR. I personally clone over GTS because it doesn't take TOO long plus my AR's USB cable's missing.

you cant edit pokemon with an AR, you can only clone and do other stuff, you will need a much more expensive flash cart to do that stuff

Nintendo doesn't sell them.
There is even a screen that comes up when you turn it on that says

"This product is not licenced or endorsed by Nintendo"

Whoever says hacking is bad can fuck themselves! Hacking is fun in-game and as long as your not messing with moves that could not be on the same moveset i.e. Thunderpunch Poison Heal Breloom it's perfectly fine.

Thunderpunch Poison Heal Breloom is not obtainable without the use of a cheating device(so peepz be aware!)

From what I know cloning using AR is fine with no side affects(I will be checking it more thoroughly when I have the time). Nicknaming however will cause you to lose some data of your pokemon which when checked for legitimacy will cause it to come up as hacked.

OMFG again with the hacking talk!!!! AR should be burned!!! I can't believe Nintendo sells them!!!

Please tell me that was sarcasm.

On topic: AFAIK, it's impossible to rename a pokemon using AR short of sharking your ID, Secret ID, and trainer name/gender to "become" the OT of a pokemon and then using the name rater. And since you can't see your secret ID short of a flash cart (to the best of my knowledge) its an extremely convoluted process to change the nickname of a poke.

If you have a flash cart, you can change the nick of a pokemon in pokesav, but I'm not sure if that would pass a hack test or not.

Listen, if you're sooo much against using an Action Replay, go to PokeCommuity.com, or one of the other sites that ban them. AR is used for cloning, as the GTS is way too slow in most people's opinions. AR's also allow people to quick level with rare candies to check IV's. I say this without even owning an AR.

That was off topic. Now back to the topic.

Overall, I don't think the AR will screw with your Pokemon. I've seen many people offering to change the nickname of your Pokemon. And since no complains have been filed, etc., I'm guessing its good.

As for the cloning, everyone (or almost everyone) clones with an AR here on Smogon.

obviously no one complains because only a handful of people here have sufficient knowledge with hex codes and how they work. And pokemon who had their nicks changed through pokesav will be considered hacked when you check the legitimacy of the pokemon using it's hex codes.

That commentary was just "lol", the point of this thread is not to discuss hacks, but to know if there's any chance of accidentally screw a pokemon data when cloning or nicknaming it. The intention is exactly the opposite.

So, basically, Cloning with AR is completely safe but nicknaming pokemon you're not the owner is hard, and will leave the pokemon as hacked.

I know this isn't completely on topic but it is a question about AR so I figure it will be alright. If i use a re-encounter code on one of the legendaries then soft reset for good ivs is the pokemon legit?

I did that, but sssh, dont tell anyone :naughty:

@gabriel and everyone else in the future who wants to make a thread about questions about hacking: use the forum search feature. this exact same thread has come up about 2-3 weeks ago. the only safe way to rename guys from other games, short of trading back to the OT, is to use the "rename, reID, reSecretID" AR codes to the Pokemon's OT and go to the Name Rater. otherwise, it is possible to detect the hack. people generally don't mind because you're not being hack checked and you're only changing the name and no relevant details of the pokemon.

Yes, but you'll feel dirty in the morning.

@everyone who's posted off topic on the subject of hacking but not asking questions/answering the OP: we've had a thousand threads for you to shout that in. your rants are off topic and unnecessary. please stop; it's tired and annoying.

Neither ar nor pokesav will alter you're pokemon. we wouldve noticed by now with all the cloning services

hahahahaha this guy happens to get a laugh out of me every time he posts. last time he said he wouldnt ride a shiny mamoswine because it looked like "shit diarhea."

Do you need a slot-2 flash cart to use pokesav? I'm wondering because I am considering getting an AR, but it will be useless to me if I can't use pokesav (I have a slot-1 flashcart, but it can't do save dumps)

when are you trading me that Arceus you said you could get from pokesav?

edit its suppose to be shiny remember!

No you do not need a flash cart to use pokesav. An AR will suffice unless you want to load your save file to the computer then yes you would need a flash cart.

w00t 800th post :D

I bet no one would mind if you changed the nicks for yourself. if they go "OMFG NO YOU HACK" then screw them.

Cloning with AR usually doesn't screw up the Pokémon/make them non-legit. If you aren't good at GTS then its a good option.
