A Shoddy Battle That Wasn't So Shoddy... [War Story]

CardsOfTheHeart vs. Bossyball

(Warning: contains mild language; That is not like my real-life self, at all...)

Most of my Shoddy Battles go one of two ways: either I win quickly or lose even quicker. This battle started out like most of those do…

Bossyball sent out Jolteon (Jolteon ?).
CardsOfTheHeart sent out Donphan (Donphan ?).

Jolteon, huh? I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a Jolteon lead that didn’t have Hidden Power [Grass], so it’s easy enough to figure out what Bossyball will do. It matters not that Jolteon possesses HP Grass; my priority is setting up Rocks, as it seems unlikely that HP Grass will OHKO Donphan.

Jolteon used Substitute.
Jolteon made a substitute!
Donphan used Stealth Rock.
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

Jolteon: 75%
Donphan: 100%

Well, that complicated things. Time to get rid of the Sub…

Jolteon used Hidden Power.
It's super effective! (82% damage) (That much? Really?)
Jolteon lost 10% of its health. (Oh, Life Orb. Gotcha.)
Donphan used Stone Edge.
Jolteon's substitute faded!
Donphan's leftovers restored its health a little!
Donphan restored 6% of its health.

Jolteon: 65%
Donphan: 24%, i.e. one HP Grass from being screwed x_x

Donphan’s mission may be accomplished, but I’m not about to sacrifice her, just yet…

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Blissey (Blissey ?).
Jolteon used Shadow Ball.
It doesn't affect Blissey...

Jolteon: 65%
Blissey: 100%

Shadow Ball? The hell? That’s quite the surprise factor. To this day, I still try to figure out why that Jolteon had Shadow Ball...

VyseV1 has entered the room. (Ah, a witness. Please, enjoy the show.)

Bossyball switched in Lucario (Lucario ?).
Pointed stones dug into Lucario.
Lucario lost 3% of its health. (down to 97% health)
Blissey used Thunder Wave.
Lucario is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Lucario: 97% Paralyzed
Blissey: still as pink as ever

Forced the switch AND got the paralysis; good, but here comes Close Combat…

Bossyball switched in Jolteon (Jolteon ?). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 53% health)
CardsOfTheHeart switched in Spiritomb (Spiritomb ?).
Spiritomb is exerting its pressure!

Jolteon: 53%
Spiritomb: 100%

Hmm, good switch, but why Jolteon?

Jolteon used Thunderbolt. (65% damage)
Spiritomb used Hypnosis.
Jolteon fell asleep!
Spiritomb's leftovers restored its health a little!

Jolteon: 43% Sleep
Spiritomb: a little worse for wear at 41%

Okay, that should let me Nasty Plot on the switch and sweep.

Bossyball switched in Starmie (Starmie). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 88% health)
Spiritomb used Nasty Plot.
Spiritomb's special attack was sharply raised.

Starmie: 88%
Spiritomb: 47% and possibly threatened O_O

Oh… Well, maybe I can still get in a Shadow Ball…

Starmie used Surf. (67% damage)
CardsOfTheHeart's Spiritomb fainted. (Bitch…)

CardsOfTheHeart 5 – 6 Bossyball

Yeah, there’s me forgetting Starmie’s Special Attack. D’oh! I would’ve been better off switching to Vaporeon and retaliating with Hidden Power [Electric]. Water under the bridge, now. (No pun intended.)

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Tangrowth (Tangrowth ?).

Bossyball switched in Togekiss (Togekiss ?). (25% Stealth Rock damage; down to 75% health)
Tangrowth used Power Whip.
It's not very effective... (16% damage)
Togekiss's leftovers restored its health a little!

Togekiss: 65%
Tangrowth: 100%

Aww, I thought Starmie would stay in and hit me hard with Ice Beam…
Well, let’s leave a parting gift before I get Air Slashed to death.

Togekiss used Thunder Wave.
Tangrowth is paralysed! It may be unable to move!
Tangrowth used Stun Spore.
Togekiss is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Togekiss: 71% Paralyzed
Tangrowth: healthy, yet not healthy… :\

Oh, so you expected a switch and status’ed me? Okay then. Let’s re-evaluate this…
I’ve seen Jolteon, Lucario, Starmie, and Togekiss.
My team is down 1 Pokemon, and Donphan is at 24%. I really doubt Donphan will be of any more use at her health. Time to sacrifice… :(

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Donphan (Donphan ?).
Togekiss used Air Slash. (39% damage)
CardsOfTheHeart's Donphan passed out.

Togekiss: 77% Paralyzed

4 - 6

Well, I suppose I’ll set up a Pokemon to get the upper hand before this gets out of hand. Blaziken can Pass Defense + Speed to Blissey and also Attack to Tangrowth; that should help.

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Blaziken (Blaziken ?).

Blaziken used Bulk Up.
Blaziken's attack was raised.
Blaziken's defence was raised.
Togekiss is paralysed! It can't move!

Togekiss: 83% Paralyzed
Blaziken: in tip-top shape and +1 Atk/Def ready to Pass

So far so good…

Blaziken used Bulk Up.
Blaziken's attack was raised.
Blaziken's defence was raised.
Togekiss used Thunder Wave.
Blaziken is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Togekiss: 89% Paralyzed
Blaziken: +2 Atk/Def ready to Pass, but with a problem… :(

That’s unfortunate.

Blaziken used Bulk Up.
Blaziken's attack was raised.
Blaziken's defence was raised.
Togekiss used Air Slash.
It's super effective! (76% damage)
Blaziken's Salac Berry raised its speed!

Togekiss: 95% Paralyzed
Blaziken: in trouble at 24% Paralyzed, but with +3 Atk/Def & +1 Spd ready to Pass

3 Bulk Ups + Salac? Wow, maybe I should’ve Endured the last one to be safe. But what an opportunity to pass; can’t PASS this up! XD

Blaziken is paralysed! It can't move!
(Oh shoot…)
Togekiss used Air Slash.
It's super effective! (“Who cares?”% damage)
CardsOfTheHeart's Blaziken fainted. (How could you tell, genius?)

Togekiss: ‘It’s Paralyzed on the spot.’ (wanted it to kick in last turn, though XD)

3 - 6

That… was awful. Let’s Beam it to death, then.

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Vaporeon (Vaporeon ?).

Vaporeon used Ice Beam.
It's super effective! (37% damage)
Togekiss is paralysed! It can't move!

Togekiss: 69% Paralyzed
Vaporeon: in prime Togekiss-wrecking position

Vaporeon used Ice Beam.
It's super effective! (39% damage)
Togekiss used Thunder Wave.
Vaporeon is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Togekiss: 36% Paralyzed
Vaporeon: 100% Paralyzed

Aww, I can’t coast to the win. I should need one more Beam, though.

Togekiss used Roost. (50% healing)
(Son of a…)
Vaporeon used Ice Beam. (18% damage)

Togekiss: 74% Paralyzed, but as annoying as usual
Vaporeon: Paralyzed, but still confident

Crap. This won’t be easy. It’s not like I can switch in much of anything, though, so let’s plow through.

Togekiss is paralysed! It can't move!
Vaporeon is paralysed! It can't move!
Togekiss's leftovers restored its health a little!

Togekiss: 80% Paralyzed
Vaporeon: 100% Paralyzed

Togekiss used Aura Sphere. (19% damage)
Vaporeon used Ice Beam.
It's super effective! (35% damage)
Vaporeon's leftovers restored its health a little!

Togekiss: 51% Paralyzed
Vaporeon: 87% Paralyzed

Togekiss used Aura Sphere.
Vaporeon lost 20% of its health. (67%)
Vaporeon is paralysed! It can't move!
(God dang it…)

Togekiss: 57% Paralyzed
Vaporeon: 73% and afflicted with the most annoying status in Pokemon (IMO)

Okay, at this rate, I could use some healing in 2 turns, so time to do what Vaporeon does best.

Togekiss used Aura Sphere. (18% damage)
Vaporeon used Wish.
Vaporeon made a wish!

Togekiss: 63% Paralyzed (It… won’t… die.)
Vaporeon: 61% Paralyzed

Bossyball switched in Ambipom (Ambipom ?). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 88% health)
Vaporeon is paralysed! It can't move!
The wish came true!

Ambipom: 88%
Vaporeon: ‘It’s gripped by Paralysis.’

Ambipom; curse you and your Fake Out. I’d like Spiritomb to switch into it, but NO, that little bitch Starmie fucked him up. (Okay, I admit, that was uncalled for.) Well, Vaporeon has outlived her usefulness…

Ambipom used Fake Out. (25% damage)
Ambipom lost 10% of its health. (78%)
Vaporeon flinched!

Ambipom: 78%
Vaporeon: 81% Paralyzed

Ambipom used Brick Break. (20% damage)
Vaporeon used Ice Beam. (44% damage)

Ambipom: not where the Life Orb user wants to be at 24%
Vaporeon: 74% Paralyzed

Holy crap, Vaporeon just might be able to get this one.

Ambipom used U-turn. (21% damage)
(U-turn? Darn…)
Bossyball switched in Starmie (Starmie). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 76% health)
Ambipom lost 10% of its health. (14%)
(Life Orb still did damage, there? Why do I find that interesting?)
Vaporeon used Ice Beam.
It's not very effective... (19% damage)

Starmie: 57%
Vaporeon: 59% Paralyzed

Well, Vaporeon’s battle life is flashing before her eyes. We know Thunderbolt’s coming; just take it like a man—or a woman. Hey, wait a minute…

Starmie used Thunderbolt.
It's super effective! (61% damage)
CardsOfTheHeart's Vaporeon is down!

Starmie: 57%

2 - 6

Crud, it’s down to a paralyzed, full-health Tangrowth and a full-health Blissey. Considering that Starmie and Togekiss can own Tangrowth with Ice Beam and Air Slash, respectively, and Lucario has Close Combat for Blissey… well, this looks bad. Plus, I haven’t even seen Bossyball’s last Pokemon, yet. Well, maybe Tangrowth can Power Whip that bitch.

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Tangrowth (Tangrowth ?).

VyseV1 has left the room. (Hey, where are you going? This is a war story; you’re missing the best part!)

Bossyball switched in Gliscor (Gliscor ?). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 88% health)
(Ah, there’s his last Pokemon…)
Tangrowth is paralysed! It can't move!
(Crap, that Power Whip could’ve hit Gliscor for quite a bit, too.)
Gliscor's leftovers restored its health a little!

Gliscor: 94%
Tangrowth: 100% Paralyzed

Well, this sucks. And I can’t really switch Blissey into Gliscor, despite her Ice Beam. Guess it’s time for “another” parting gift…

Gliscor used Aerial Ace.
It's super effective! (22% damage)
Tangrowth used Stun Spore.
Tangrowth's attack missed! (…)
Tangrowth's leftovers restored its health a little!

Gliscor: all set for the kill
Tangrowth: 84% Paralyzed

Oh, that’s a load of crap!

Gliscor used Aerial Ace.
It's super effective!
A critical hit! (41% damage)
Tangrowth is paralysed! It can't move!

Gliscor: not going anywhere, anytime soon
Tangrowth: 49% Paralyzed

Give me a break. T-T Please, just let me paralyze him so Blissey won’t die so fast, later.

Gliscor used Aerial Ace.
It's super effective! (20% damage)
Tangrowth is paralysed! It can't move!

Gliscor: How do you think he’s doing?
Tangrowth: 35% Paralyzed

What the fuck is that?! I could’ve realistically had 2 Stun Spore chances, by now. Geez…

Gliscor used Aerial Ace.
It's super effective! (22% damage)
Tangrowth used Stun Spore.
Gliscor is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Gliscor: Paralyzed; took you long enough…
Tangrowth: ready to be executed

Finally… Maybe Blissey will be able to Beam Gliscor to death before she gets pwned by Lucario.

Gliscor used Aerial Ace.
It's super effective! (22% damage)
CardsOfTheHeart's Tangrowth was struck down.

1 - 6

That’ll do, pig. That’ll do.

But now I’ve got one Blissey to Bossyball’s 6! Now the question is: how long until she croaks?

CardsOfTheHeart switched in Blissey (Blissey ?).

Blissey used Ice Beam.
It's super effective! (89% damage)
Gliscor used Earthquake. (30% damage)
Blissey's leftovers restored its health a little!

Gliscor: 17% Paralyzed
Blissey: 76%

Okay, Gliscor is manageable, now.

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (28% damage)
Bossyball's Gliscor was thrown out of the battle.

Blissey: 82%

1 - 5

One down… 5 to go. :(

Bossyball switched in Ambipom (Ambipom ?). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 2% health)

Ambipom used Fake Out. (28% damage)
Bossyball's Ambipom fainted from the fatigue!
Blissey flinched!

Blissey: 60%

1 - 4

Well, the Life Orb backfired, there. Vaporeon’s efforts weren’t in vain, after all…

Bossyball switched in Starmie (Starmie). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 45% health)

Starmie used Surf. (24% damage)
Blissey used Softboiled. (50% healing)
(Isn’t that timely? ;) )

Starmie: 45%
Blissey: 92%

Saving Lucario a little more for the revenge kill, huh? Starmie shouldn’t put up much resistance, then.

Starmie used Surf. (22% damage)
Blissey used Thunder Wave.
Starmie is paralysed! It may be unable to move!

Starmie: 45%
Blissey: 76%

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (38% damage)
Starmie used Surf. (23% damage)

Starmie: hanging on by a 7% thread
Blissey: 59%

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (38% damage)
Bossyball's Starmie fell down and could not get up.

Blissey: 65%

1 - 3

Well, well, Blissey has finished off 3 Pokemon; she’s halfway there. As legendary sportscaster Chris Berman would say, “CAN—SHE—GO—ALL—THE—WAY?” This is a war story, after all, so we’ll find out.

Bossyball switched in Jolteon (Jolteon ?). (12% Stealth Rock damage; down to 31% health and asleep)

Jolteon is fast asleep!
Blissey used Seismic Toss. (37%)
Bossyball's Jolteon was tossed aside!

Blissey: 71%

1 – 2

Well, it seems Spiritomb’s Hypnosis way-back-when helped Blissey take out something else. (And I thought Spiritomb didn’t accomplish anything…)

At this point, Bossyball’s down to Togekiss… and Lucario. Does he lay the hammer down now or have Togekiss wear me down and finish me later? Let’s find out…

Bossyball switched in Lucario (Lucario ?). (3% Stealth Rock damage; down to 94% health and paralyzed)

Okay, he laid the hammer down. One Close Combat should do it, now.
[Going through the numbers as I type this, one Close Combat from a Lucario with no +Attack nature or Attack EVs would inflict 74-87%; Blissey’s at 71%.]

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (36% damage)
Lucario used Swords Dance.
Lucario's attack was sharply raised.

Lucario: 58% Paralyzed
Blissey: 77%

Swords Dance?! The hell? Now I REALLY can’t take a Close Combat!

(No Close Combat, no Close Combat, no Close Combat, no Close Combat…)

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (36% damage)
Lucario is paralysed! It can't move!
Lucario's Salac Berry raised its speed!

Lucario: 22% Paralyzed
Blissey: 83%

Whew! This one should be in the bag, then. Since Lucario is paralyzed, the Salac doesn’t matter, at this point.
[Note: Since that Lucario was holding Salac Berry, it was probably the SubSalac Sweeper; i.e. it had max Atk. A Close Combat from that without the Swords Dance would’ve OHKO’d Blissey without question. That makes the Swords Dance, the turn before, even more puzzling…]

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (36% damage)
Bossyball's Lucario ‘is down AND out!’

Blissey: 89%

1 - 1

From 1-on-6 to 1-on-1; unbelievable. It’d be a shame to lose, now, especially since it’s Blissey vs. Togekiss. Oh wait, this Togekiss has Thunder Wave and Roost; ugh, this could be a long stall war…

Bossyball switched in Togekiss (Togekiss ?). (25% Stealth Rock damage; down to 38% health and paralyzed)

Blissey used Seismic Toss. (27%)
Togekiss is paralysed! It can't move!

Togekiss: 17% Paralyzed (It’s bye bye, birdie!)
Blissey: 95%

Oh my! This might actually happen! Will the next Seismic Toss do it?

Blissey used Seismic Toss.
Togekiss lost 27% of its health.
Bossyball's Togekiss is out of there!
CardsOfTheHeart wins 1 - 0!

Yes! I won!

…hm?

Are you kidding me?! Did Blissey just sweep an entire team? Sure, there were Rocks and status (and a Life Orb) involved, but… did that really just happen? Wow, what a match! Bossyball’s team gave me a run for my money, there.

But, come to find out, Bossyball was using a brand new team. Figures… T-T

Anyway, I wanted to share with you this story of adversity and triumph. (And a Blissey sweep!)

Props:
-Donphan for laying down the Rocks and the foundation for making this victory possible.
-Spiritomb for putting Jolteon to sleep.
-Tangrowth for paralyzing 2 Pokemon to make Blissey’s life easier, later on.
-Vaporeon for the 44% damage Surf that eventually made Ambipom a non-factor.
-And, of course, Blissey, the hero! From paralyzing Lucario early on to plowing her way through 6 Pokemon, she went far above and beyond the call of duty to do her part. Her effort shows one of the reasons why she’s clearly an OU.

-Oh, and LordS for letting me post this.

Slops:
-Blaziken did absolutely NOTHING for me. I’ve since gone to a different Baton Passer.
-Togekiss’s Thunder Wave, combined with the 75% Stun Spore accuracy, made it so that Tangrowth had to wait FIVE turns before ultimately paralyzing Gliscor. However, I am glad that my max Defense Tangrowth was able to survive FOUR Gliscor Aerial Aces (including 1 critical) in that span.
-It was a little depressing that all this effort went against a newly put-together team, but it still made for a compelling battle, don’t you think?

Well, hope you enjoyed it!

This was an ok battle but the opponent wasn't very good and you made a fair amount of mistakes yourself, but due to the commentary and the way it was written i'd stilll consider an enjoyable read. :)

Nice. Interesting to see a non-CM Blissey get a sweep, especially a 1-6>1-0 one. Also, goos commentary, despite the mistakes that were made. If Blaziken had passed the turn before dying things would have been quite different.

If you did get mod permission I would mention it somewhere, otherwise just to warn you the next 4/5 posts will be "YOU WON SO DENIED GTFO etc" :x

Much enjoyment was had. Solid amount of commentary, and an overall enjoyable battle. Shows the benefits of preparation in the form of Hypnosis and Stealth Rock, which is neat.

Also Togekiss should watch her back before she becomes as much of a cheap whore as Blissey.

Read the last of the props. If you had, that post wouldn't have been necessary.

Thank you for those comments. I have to admit that this battle took place before I perfected my team and while I was more ignorant / still getting into the groove of things.

Funny you should mention Togekiss; she became Blaziken's replacement. XD

No offense Cards, but I was hoping you would lose this match.

Everytime a Blissey sweeps a team, a kitten gets thrown into the Hudson.

QFT!

I liked this match, it was one of the funnier ones, this is a slap in the face to everyone acting like status doesn't matter.

Your opponnent was pretty bad =/, and hoping Blaziken would be able to Baton Pass the 3 Bulk Ups and +1 Speed after being Paralyzed was 'hopeful' to put it that way.

What I'm wondering is why you were trying to baton pass bulk ups against togekiss? Good read though, although a bit too much log and not enough story/summary.

What I'm wondering is why you were trying to baton pass bulk ups against togekiss? Good read though, although a bit too much log and not enough story/summary.
Well, I took out a lot of the redundancy in the log, so I guess that means I didn't have enough to say.

Typical; I usually don't have enough to say... :/

I actually got angry for you reading the number of turns Tangrowth was paralyzed for, I was wholly expecting a 6-0 sweep.

I think the major error that clinched it for you came from not attempting to kill you with Lucario earlier (especially getting cocky and SDing before the kill). Even if he didn't get the kill w/ Lucario, the Fake Out from Ambipom probably would have finished the deal. Obviously, this was a new team for your opponent, but the game was easily in his lap if he'd kept Jolteon back to not end the match in a draw. It's entirely possible you'd survive both the CC Stab AND Stab/Technician/Life Orbed Fake Out and still won. I just don't find that very likely.

Good read, though. Very interesting turnabout and well written.

Wow, huge turnaround...

The only thing I can think of is that Lucario would be a reversal-er, but even that seems unlikely.

regardless of the mistakes your opponent made nice job on the comeback, even if it was with that whore Blissey

shame blaziken didnt do much, and got axed from your team because of it

Lol when lucario is free for close combat swords dance. I still cant believe it. I bet your team is based on supporting blissey instead of she supporting them. Really koed 6 pokes in a row. Very impressive. One more thing I was shocked when you didn't pass the bulk ups with blaziken. You acted greedy meaning 2 bulk ups should be enough but no you want more:P

Oh man, that was a good story. I bet your opponent wasn't expecting Blissey to sweep.

Kinda makes me want to use Blissey again, but then I remember how much I hate the bitch...

My team supporting Blissey? lol If any of my Pokemon get supported more than anything else, it's Spiritomb. That thing can sweep like crazy. XD
(Actually, my team is more or less based on setting up Stealth Rocks and forcing switches. It's a little on the slow and defensive side, however, which is typically a problem.)

With Blaziken, though, I didn't really know any better. I was concerned with staying alive as long as I could and Passing as much as I could to the next one. In fact, I still try to get Togekiss to Pass 2 Nasty Plots... seems a tad excessive, in my book. (especially when Spiritomb tends to sweep with just one!)

Looking back, the thing I am most fortunate for about this match is that Bossyball didn't have a Blissey of his own. I mentioned this in my most recent RMT, but most of the team is walled by Blissey, and the ones that aren't are weak to Ice Beam. (Geez, even 3 Nasty Plots from Spiritomb let it only do about 40% to Bliss with Hidden Power [Fighting]... T-T)

congrates on your win, but damn that's anyyoing when that fat whore kills of the rest of your team...

kinda deserved it after the SD though, Gwarstory, I guess
