So, I’ve recently been doing some team testing on Shoddy Battle with an offshoot of my Anti-Sandstorm Meta-game team. (With Baton Pass missing and Choice Scarf not in yet) It’s been pretty hectic, with 12 year olds accusing you of breaking Sleep Clause and smarmy asses who 5-0 your team after you’ve 6-0’d them once because they know what to expect after the first battle (“PWNT N00B!” Right…) All in all, it’s been a crapshoot. But enough about that, onto the battle!
Synecdoche’s Team:
PR3DAT’s Team:
(To be revealed on the last turn)
The Battle Begins!
Synecdoche sent out Drifblim.
PR3DAT sent out Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Drifblim's attack!
My favorite matchup when leading with Drifblim (usually I’ve been leading with Aero, but I decided to change it up a bit) However, due to the magic of the internet, my opponent finds it wise to look up Drifblim’s capabilities before misjudging it as a non-threat.
PR3DAT switched in Blissey.
Drifblim used Thunderbolt.
Blissey lost 10% of its health.
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!
Damn, that would’ve KO’d any non-bulky version of Gyara, outsped any DD version of Gyara, and severely crippled any bulky version of Gyara. Oh well, perhaps this turn of events will come in handy later on.
Drifblim used Hypnosis.
Blissey fell asleep!
Blissey is fast asleep!
*whew, Definitely expecting an Ice Beam there, Hypnosis pulls through and as far as I know, the stage is set to start setting up my Special Sweepers.
Synecdoche switched in Aerodactyl.
PR3DAT switched in Swampert.
Damn, I know with fair certainty that Swampert OHKOs my Aero with Waterfall/Surf, while the best Aero can do is send a 50ish % Earthquake. I dislike having to deal with both Swamps and Gyara, and switch in my bulky Scizor.
Synecdoche switched in Scizor.
Swampert used Waterfall.
Scizor lost 32% of its health.
Ouch, that stung, and using bulky Scizor when Roost hasn’t been programmed yet makes the sting even worse.
PR3DAT switched in Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Scizor's attack!
Scizor used X-Scissor.
It's not very effective...
Gyarados lost 12% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored a little health!
Great, an exercise in futility, Gyarados and Swampert will wear down my team with Waterfall/Earthquake via attrition if I can’t kill one or the other, fully expecting a Dragon Dance I rush in with Drifblim.
Synecdoche switched in Drifblim.
Gyarados used Thunder Wave.
Drifblim became paralysed!
DAMNIT. *Re-reads D/P Analyses* gahhh, T-Wave is listed under Other Options, what sort of trickery is this! I’m pretty much resigned to get Stone Edge’d and 6-0 swept.
PR3DAT switched in Rhyperior.
Drifblim used Thunderbolt.
No effect!
No Dragon Dance? No Stone Edge? And I’m left in the same situation as always, partially damaged with no progress save a Hypnosis. At least this gives me a chance to bring in my Hippo.
Synecdoche switched in Hippowdon.
Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
Rhyperior used Stone Edge.
It's not very effective...
Critical hit!
Hippowdon lost 31% of its health.
The sandstorm rages.
Hippowdon's leftovers restored a little health!
I’ve never laughed in the face of a Critical Stone Edge like that before.
PR3DAT switched in Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Hippowdon's attack!
Hippowdon used Slack Off.
Hippowdon restored 50% of its health.
Synecdoche switched in Aerodactyl.
Gyarados used Waterfall.
Super effective!
Aerodactyl lost 129% of its health.
Synecdoche's Aerodactyl fainted.
Damnit -_-; Why would I suspect an Earthquake at all? At least I know at least 2 of his Gyarados’ moves now, Waterfall and T-Wave, and now I’m down 5-6.
Synecdoche switched in Magnezone.
(Oh crap! Forgot! I haven’t ruled out the possibility of Earthquake yet!)
Synecdoche switched in Drifblim.
PR3DAT switched in Swampert.
I guess he was predicting a Thunderbolt.
Synecdoche switched in Scizor.
PR3DAT switched in Blissey.
And there I’m thinking he predicted a Shadow Ball when I was predicting a Waterfall.
Scizor used Agility.
Scizor's speed was sharply raised.
Blissey is fast asleep!
This is almost too good to be true! Scizor has an Agility under his belt and is sitting pretty at 68%
Scizor used Iron Head.
Blissey lost 83% of its health.
Blissey is fast asleep!
Blissey's leftovers restored a little health!
Even more incentive to set up Ninetales in the wake of this occurrence :o
PR3DAT switched in Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Scizor's attack!
Scizor used Iron Head.
It's not very effective...
Gyarados lost 13% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored a little health!
All good things must come to an end, I suppose, but at least I dealt a crushing blow to his Blissey, time to bring in Magnezone again.
Synecdoche switched in Magnezone.
Gyarados used Waterfall.
Magnezone lost 32% of its health.
Magnezone's leftovers restored a little health!
Gyarados's leftovers restored a little health!
That’s rather strange, Magnezone takes the same %tage damage against Waterfall from Gyarados as Scizor does from Swampert. I’m 100% certain that he’ll switch out to a ground type because he’s already done it several times. Overprotective of his Gyarados, I’ll have to find a way to abuse that.
PR3DAT switched in Swampert.
Magnezone used Flash Cannon.
It's not very effective...
Swampert lost 18% of its health.
Magnezone's leftovers restored a little health!
Swampert's leftovers restored a little health!
I was definitely hoping for Rhyperior instead. And with Aero gone and Drifblim paralysed, I don’t have very many options.
Synecdoche switched in Scizor.
Swampert used Earthquake.
Scizor lost 42% of its health.
Swampert's leftovers restored a little health!
Ouch. It seems futile to preserve Scizor at such a low health point, and being that it was sort of buggy, I don’t think that the program activated my Liechi berry, but I think I’m in range for Swarm. I give it a go and hope for the best.
Scizor used X-Scissor.
Swampert lost 42% of its health.
Swampert used Waterfall.
Scizor lost 32% of its health.
Synecdoche's Scizor fainted.
Swampert's leftovers restored a little health!
Well damn, 4-6 and I’m in pretty bad shape, X-Scissor both met, and failed my expectations at least I know what’s coming up next!
Synecdoche switched in Ninetales.
Ninetales used Energy Ball.
Super effective!
Swampert lost 65% of its health.
PR3DAT's Swampert fainted.
Perhaps he thought I switched in my Ninetales in desperation, perhaps he didn’t know that Ninetales learned Energy Ball, in any case, Revenge killing gets me to 4-5, but I’m not out of the kitchen yet.
PR3DAT switched in Gyarados.
Gyarados's intimidate cut Ninetales's attack!
Synecdoche switched in Drifblim.
Gyarados used Waterfall.
Drifblim lost 51% of its health.
Gyarados's leftovers restored a little health!
Gyarados used Ice Fang.
Super effective!
Drifblim lost 62% of its health.
Synecdoche's Drifblim fainted.
Damnit! That hurt significantly more than I thought it would, and I was half expecting it too. That makes Gyarados’s set Waterfall, Ice Fang, T-Wave, Dragon Dance, right? 3-5 But I’m frightened, there goes my Thunderbolt. :[ At least I know I’m relatively safe to bring in Magnezone now.
Synecdoche switched in Magnezone.
Gyarados used Earthquake.
Super effective!
Magnezone lost 109% of its health.
Synecdoche's Magnezone fainted.
Synecdoche: oh that's a dirty trick
Synecdoche: no dragon dance at all.
Synecdoche: :[
PR3DAT: lol?
PR3DAT: wtf
Synecdoche: standard gyarados is a DD'er
PR3DAT: I wanted to sacrifice Gyara and kill you with my last pkmn.
PR3DAT: I hate Standard sets
PR3DAT: :p
WHAT?! T_T Tricked all along! Somehow I think that he had though that Magnezone outspeeds Gyarados. That would explain all the odd switching instead of going for the throat with an Earthquake. Ugh, 2-5. I’ve got my Hippo and Ninetales left.
Synecdoche switched in Hippowdon.
Hippowdon's Sand Stream whipped up a sandstorm!
A sandstorm brewed!
This section is very boring, but it shows off the capabilities of Impish 252/252 HP/Defense Hippowdon. It’s not over till the fat Hippo sings!

By this point, I’m wondering what he’s trying to do here, especially since 3 Curses would usually mean Attacking via Sp.Attacks would be the wisest option, trying for a Crit or a series of flinches?
Gyarados used Waterfall.
Super effective!
Hippowdon lost 17% of its health.
Hippowdon used Slack Off.
Hippowdon restored 50% of its health.
Synecdoche: this would be great if I could hit the damn thing
Synecdoche: lol.
Light banter, I assume he believes that I’m trying to PP-Stall him and that all that I have is Earthquake. I’m slightly scared that he’ll just randomly send in Starmie/Roserade and rain fire/brimstone in the form of Surf/Leafstorm on my poor Cursed up Hippo.

okay.. \/ I’m at the point where I don’t lose any HP from his attacks. Perhaps he’s feeling a bit pressured at this moment. That freeze didn’t help, but it put my odds into perspective.

Whew, that was a rush, Curse Hippo Saves the day with Ninetales and Drifblim to thank for incapacitating Swampert and Blissey respectively.
Props:
Colin- For developing Shoddy Battle and putting up with my frequent bug reports and general whining. (Including noticing that you can’t edit a pre-patch team to have post-patch abilities)
PR3DAT- For allowing me to test out my team against what is pretty much standard for a Sandstorm team (Albeit his Gyarados not carrying Dragon dance at all)
Drifblim/Ninetales- For paving the road to victory for…
Curse-Hippowdon!- I never thought a set like that could work, especially in an environment rife with Mixape/Starmie/Bronzong/Cresselia. I probably got lucky, on Wi-Fi I’ll be using a Stealth Rock set 95% of the time.
Slops:
Drifblim- For revealing Thunderbolt too early and letting it get absorbed (Blissey) or Immuned (Rhyperior) twice.
Aerodactyl- For listening when I told it to go out against Swampert.
Special sweepers- For not being on PR3DAT’s team and showing me my place.
Well, there’s my ShoddyBattle Warstory, I hope you enjoyed it, as well as waded through the pages full of Hippowdon cursing and being frozen.
