A trick room team without bronzong

I've faced a lot of trick room teams on pokemon battle revolution (this is going to be a DS team) and they all have one thing in common, other than trick room, a bronzong. So I decided to put together a trick room team without one. Since speed isn't a factor, I wasn't sure where to put my EV's so I put them into health to increase survivability. I also wasn't sure which items I should give my pokemon.

Dusknoir @ Leftovers
Pressure
252 HP, 130 defense, 126 sp def
Careful
- trick room
- pain split
- fire punch
- thunder punch

Dusknoir is my starter and sets up the trick room since his defenses are so high and his speed allows him to take advantage of the trick room. Pain split allows him to heal, and since bronzong and gyarados are common starters, I gave him thunder and ice punch. I wasn't sure if I should give him shadow punch to take advantage of STAB.

Poliwrath @ Leftovers
Water Absorb
252 HP, 252 attack, 6 defense
Brave
- focus punch
- waterfall
- hypnosis
- belly drum

Poliwrath's job is to hypnosis anything that comes in and then on the next turn use belly drum to increase attack and then beat down anything in its way while leftovers heals it.

Glaceon @ Leftovers
Snow Cloak
252 HP, 252, sp attack, 6 sp def
Quiet
- ice beam
- wish
- mirror coat
- fake tears

Glaceon is my dragon killer since I read that all teams need a garchomp counter. Wish allows me to heal any of my pokemon. Fake tears helps ice beam do extra damage since glaceon's attack choices aren't that great. Mirror coat is just a surprise for fire pokemon, plus I couldn't think of a better move.

Gardevoir @ Leftovers
Trace
252 HP, sp attack, 6 def
Quiet
- psychic
- thunder bolt
- grass knot
- trick room

I needed a pokemon that could use electric and grass moves, plus I like psychic. I figured a second trick room user is a good backup if dusknoir faints and trick room ends. I was also thinking of giving her healing wish if two trick room users are excessive.

Dragonite @ Life Orb
Inner Focus
252 HP, 252 attack, 6 def
Brave
- outrage
- earthquake
- fire blast
- aerial ace

I have always loved dragonite and since he is not as fast as the other dragons he fits on this team. His movepool allows me to get greater move coverage.

Absol @ Scope Lens
Super Luck
252 HP, 252 attack, 6 def
Brave
- night slash
- stone edge
- shadow claw
- x-scissor

Absol's job is to get critical hits. Also, I was able to add move types that I didn't have on other pokemon.

Well, generally Bronzong is used due to its reliability--with all its resistances it gets ample opportunity to set up trick room. Generally I would advise against using 2 pokemon that are weak to pursuit to set up your team's main tactic--weavile and t-tar like to come in on either gardevoir or dusknoir.

In addition, the team needs at least one member who can be speedy outside of trick room--as you well know it doesn't last nearly as long as one would like and you won't always have time to set up. Something like Gengar or scarfchomp or something, over either Dragonite or Glaceon I think. That being said, I don't think the sweepers you are using take full advantage of trick room. Absol and Dragonite aren't terribly slow to start with. I would go with TR staples like Marowak--generally the rule of thumb is to use slow but extremely powerful sweepers that wreak havoc for the small amount of time they have TR.

Just stuff to think about ;D

I'm not a good rater, but I notice one thing: You only have one pokemon to set up Trick Room, and you need atleast two. If Dusknoir dies, you are in trouble, if you see my point. I don't have any good TR-set-uppers in my head right now..

Clamperl is another example.

I know he doesn't want to use one, I just want to make sure he knows what he is giving up by not using Bronzong. But to each his own.

Most of these pokes are better off on standard teams without aid from Trick Room. Consider using more powerful, extremely powerful pokes like previously stated. Examples of these would be Rampardos, Rhyperior, Tyranitar, Marowak, Machamp, Ursaring, hell, even Granbull would be better than Dragonite. Other than that, use Bronzong. It is much too good to pass up.

Hmm. At a glance, I would say UXIE would make a good trick roomer, because it has U-turn to minimize pursuit, is really bulky, and can use U-turn to get in a trick room user without it taking damage.

Some good trick room dudes that come to mind are:

ursaring: swords dance, guts, facade. 394 ATK. Try TOXIC ORB or FLAME ORB.

Octillery: incredible movepool, hits all for super effective. 339 satk. Does massive damage. Uses EXPERT BELT, LIFE ORB, LEFTOVERS, and FOCUS SASH equally well.

Crawdaunt: HECK YEAH! Has more slow and more bulk than absol, and has 2 stabs with decent coverage. Can also swords dance. Fairly slow, can be EVd to outrun walls out of trick room. 372 ATK. Best with CHOICE BAND or LIFE ORB. 546 with choice band and 483 with life orb.

Cammerupt: Erupt. Has fantastic stabs. Slow. 339 SATK. Likes CHOICE SPECS or LEFTOVERS

PORYGON2: can set up trick room and is not weak to pursuit, moderately slow, has bolt beam. He can trace some nifty stuff. Same base stat total almost as Porygon-Z, so it's not really like an NFE. has recover. Best with LEFTOVERS or LUM BERRY.

Rhyperior: hundreds of attack, swords dance, great defense. Slow. I don't know it's exact attack, maybe 430 ish. Utalizes LEFTOVERS with great affect. It was mentioned before.

Clampearl: Mentioned before, has insane attack stat, but frail. It has 542 satk, but sucky movepool.

...Sunflora... could work, I used sunny day/trick room/explosion claydol to set up for it in UU, with solar power and life orb it gets 661 special attack. Ouch. The downside is it's movepool is limited to grass and hidden power.

I don't see any serious problems, but you may want to explore some more options. I think SWORDS DANCE could fit in on absol somewhat well, as could SUCKER PUNCH, for after TR fades. Absol and Dragonite may need to be replaced with something slower.

Healing wish on Gardy is a bad idea. Try wish instead, or don't try recovery at all.

Poliwrath looks like it does some massive damage, ever swept a whole team with him?

I'm no team-rater, but I do have some experience is the field of Trick Room, as I'm in love with it. I would strongly recommend having one pokemon that isn't TR-based. You can't really count on having TR up all the time. Your switches back to Gardy and Dusknoir will be easily predicted after a little while (the fact that they have common weaknesses doesn't help your cause either), so you need to be able to function without them some of the time. For my most successful of teams I used Garchomp (naturally), as it can take a hit and outspeed a lot. Either that or get some sturdier TR pokes. The extra HP EV's don't do a lot to support the causes of

I also might consider Draco Meteor on Dragonite, as he will have to flee a lot of the time from my experiences (yes, in TR).

HP Fight or Rock Smash (shudder) might better suit Absol, as X-scissor does nothing for his type coverage. Fire Blast or Psycho Cut should replace Shadow Claw also, which does equally little for you. Even Sucker Punch might have a home on this no-speed set, since Absol will be positively helpless without TR support.

Just my thoughts, again, I'm no pro. Good luck!

Or crawdaunt instead of absol, the little dude doesn't need HMs or hidden power for coverage. It has SUPERPOWER.

It is slightly slower, and tougher. It also has waterfall as a secondary stab.

I agree on the NON TR GUY thing. I suggest mamoswine with max speed, for swords dance lucario (2nd greediest pokemon around)and the ever annoying garchomp.(greediest pokemon around) I suggest life orb or choice band, EQ/Ice shard/fang are inevitable, but try sleep talk incase you need to absorb sleep. Bronzong walls you anyways, why bother with stone edge?

I have used every garchomp set under the sun, and as fun as it is to swords dance 3 times, it sure isn't fun to fight. I also am not particularily fond of reccomending it, it is already on around 10 or 11 of the threads on this page. Take the time to look around.

EDITURDZ: i just realized; why don't you ever post in your own RMTs? I see you have two posts and both are RMT threads. O_o
