Announcement A Whole New World - Indigo Disk DLC Tiering Update

After a long wait, the Indigo Disk DLC is finally here. In this voting, we took into consideration returning Pokemon, previously banned Pokemon (and items) and moves changes. The votes were conduced in 4 phases. As a reminder, a Pokemon can only be quickbanned with a supermajority, which will be a 6/8 vote in this case while a previously banned Pokemon can be unbanned with a supermajority of 6/8 votes as well. Moreover, the council will return to frequent quickban cycles in the near future to rapidly stabilize the metagame.


PHASE 1: Usual Suspects

In the first phase, the council elected to ban the clearly broken Pokemon that have been historically banned from the tier from the start or had a very short time in the tier. All of the following Pokemon were unanimously banned by the council.

Lugia has been banned from Monotype
Ho-Oh has been banned from Monotype
Deoxys has been banned from Monotype
Deoxys-Attack has been banned from Monotype
Reshiram has been banned from Monotype
Zekrom has been banned from Monotype
Kyurem-White has been banned from Monotype
Lunala has been banned from Monotype
Necrozma-Dusk-Mane has been banned from Monotype
Necrozma-Dawn-Wings has been banned from Monotype


PHASE 2: Second Chances

In the second phase, the council elected to reevaluate any Pokemon that were previously banned during the pre-DLC metagame. The unban voting slate consisted of Iron Bundle, Palafin and Urshifu-S; we also voted on freeing Booster Energy. A supermajority of 6/8 is required for any of the Pokemon or item to be unbanned.

Therefore, Booster Energy

will be unbanned in Monotype.

PHASE 3: Friendly Faces ​

In the third phase, the council decided to target three newly released Pokemon that have historically been part of the tier (and one unfriendly face). The slate consisted of Deoxys-D, Deoxys-S and Kyurem-B. A supermajority of 6/8 votes is required for any of the Pokemon to be banned.

Therefore, Kyurem-B, Deoxys-S and Deoxys-D will be unbanned in Monotype.

PHASE 4: An Unfriendly Face

As the last part of this slate, the council opted to vote on a rather controversial and unfriendly face in Solgaleo. Despite being historically banned in the tier, some believed it would be a fine fit in this current metagame with the power creep. As always, a supermajority of 6/8 is required for Solgaleo to be banned.

As such, Solgaleo will be unbanned in Monotype.

This concludes the initial voting phases for the DLC Indigo Disk SV Monotype metagame. I'm sure there are some major surprises like Solgaleo being unbanned in the tier for the first time ever in the tier's history but do keep in mind that quickban phases will begin shortly as the council prioritises a stable metagame. It is also important to note that, the Pokemon listed on this post will not be the only Pokemon considered in subsequent quickban slates; any Pokemon that is deemed to be problematic or overpowering will be in our watchlist and tiering action will be taken as deemed necessary. This DLC is just as impactful as DLC 1 so looking forward to see how the tier unfolds with all the new additions.

Expect the next voting slate to be up over the weekend so be sure to voice out your thoughts and opinions on any Pokemon that you deem to be potentially problematic on the metagame discussion thread before our next voting slate. Looking forward to seeing a lot of discussion regarding the new tier from everyone.
