Adding to this nomination, hoopa has alot of variation in its sets. It gets grass knot/energy ball to snipe Swampert, focus punch as a niche option for hitting and almost ohkoing regen vest moon, hoodra, and Blissey (idk if blissey is real in aaa tho). And prankster sets have thunder wave to put your opponents offensive mon out of buisness, without trading.Very small nom:
UR --> C
Mainly, it is this set:
Hoopa @ Life Orb
Ability: Sheer Force
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Shadow Ball
- Psychic
- Focus Blast
- Trick Room
252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Hoopa Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Manaphy: 203-239 (50.2 - 59.1%) -- guaranteed 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Hoopa Psychic vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Primarina: 177-211 (48.6 - 57.9%) -- 95.7% chance to 2HKO
252+ SpA Life Orb Sheer Force Hoopa Psychic vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Assault Vest Swampert: 156-185 (38.6 - 45.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
(The above are probably the only mons in the meta that can tank more than 1 hit from Hoopa that are common enough to be counted, unless I'm missing something).
In Trick Room Hoopa can literally flip a losing game into a winning one, (if you hit Focus Blasts). It absolutely runs over offense and most bulkier teams still can't deal with the sheer damage output of SFLO Hoopa. It is, however, very hard to get Hoopa in safely. Most common ins are on Corviknight (Skarm can click Whirlwind).
Prankster Destiny Bond sets exist as well, but Pecharunt is better suited for that role. Pixilate Tera Blast also works but does a lot less than SFLO.
It does pretty well if it can get wish support because it has 80/130 special bulk, enough to come in and set up trick room infront of alot of special attackers if its running max hp (some calcs to prove it). None max hp still has a hard time switching in tho.
252 SpA Zapdos Thunder (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa: 139-165 (38.1 - 45.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252 SpA Scream Tail Boomburst (168 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa: 141-166 (38.7 - 45.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
252+ SpA Iron Crown Tachyon Cutter (100 BP) (2 hits) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa: 138-164 (37.9 - 45%) -- approx. 3HKO
252+ SpA Choice Specs Regieleki Thunderbolt (90 BP) vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Hoopa: 160-190 (43.9 - 52.1%) -- 17.2% chance to 2HKO
Another option is hadron engine + assualt vest. Hadron engine makes up for the loss of life orb, as well as giving a power boost to thunderbolt to 2hko primarina, and ohko the birds (if they arent volt absorb that is.). Assualt vest means you effectively take near nothing from neutral special attacks.
252 SpA Gholdengo Make It Rain (120 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Hoopa: 106-126 (29.1 - 34.6%) -- 5.9% chance to 3HKO
252 SpA Zapdos Thunder (110 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Hoopa: 93-111 (25.5 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Scream Tail Boomburst (168 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Hoopa: 93-111 (25.5 - 30.4%) -- guaranteed 4HKO
252 SpA Iron Moth Flamethrower (90 BP) vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Assault Vest Hoopa in Harsh Sunshine: 126-148 (34.6 - 40.6%) -- guaranteed 3HKO
I still have some expirimenting to do with these sets, but hoopa certainly has alot of potential in AAA to be a strong niche mon, with great set variety, and high damage output.
