Epilogue-- Obituary of the Author​

Hello, all. This team is a long time coming. I've built this team and been tweaking it for quite some time, but have strayed away from Pokemon in favor of Chess. Over break, I've decided to upload the team, so that others could see it, try it, and critique it. I'll be checking in on a regular basis to respond to any questions or rates, but I won't be on very much. If anyone out there is interested in continued testing of this team, and letting me know how it does and how you'd change it, I'm certainly still interested in team building, but actually playing the game has taken a back seat to me. I'll still be here for any of your Trick Room related questions as always.

I am uploading this team only because of the impact that Celestial Beings had on the Trick Room world. I hope this team has the same amount of innovations and once again puts Trick Room into the minds of players and works the unexplored areas of Trick Room closer to the forefront of battling. This is certainly the last RMT you'll see from me for quite some time. I hope you all enjoy it!

Chapter 1-- Of the Creation​

The team building process for this team started in a rather unexpected place for a Trick Room team-- Sableye.

Sableye, along with the next team member, are the only members to not have been removed at some point in the process. (Note, I will not be going through the entire process, just laying down a little background as to why I added each member.)

Sableye provides a great way to give a chance to the Trick Room team against those strategies that seemingly always destroy Trick Room-- Taunt Spam, Stall, and the like. Sableye is the perfect glue, and is the main innovation this team offers.

After Sableye, the next addition is a staple to every Trick Room team, and where my teams usually begin. Reuniclus is a very solid choice even in non-Trick Room teams. However, in Trick Room based teams, he is all but necessary. Providing the best offensive presence with access to Trick Room, he pulls double duty as a premier Trick Room setter and abuser.

Continuing in the Trick Room direction, I added the second setter. Bronzong was selected for its ability to set Stealth Rocks, its incredible bulk, and its great typing. An added bonus was the fact that it is a physically based attacker, allowing a physical presence against special walls that would otherwise plague many Trick Room setters.

The first abuser of the team was added fourth. Enter Conkeldurr. Conkeldurr is a huge presence in any Trick Room team, and this team is no different. Conkeldurr provides the brute force and priority that this team so much needs to keep a good tempo. Paired with his great bulk, he's a valuable asset to the team.

The fifth member is the most controversial in my mind, and proves herself to be one of the important innovations that I hope this team provides to the Trick Room world. Nidoqueen, with her poor Special Attack, is hard to think of as an abuser of Trick Room, but she has certainly proved herself to me. Sheer Force paired with a Life Orb and her incredible move set provides one hell of a special attacker that many will underestimate.

The final member is the third Trick Room setter. Porygon 2 was chosen above the other candidates for a few reasons. The biggest reason being that it has some of the largest natural bulk of the Trick Room setters when it has an Eviolite. A second reason was that its access to Download makes it a Pokemon that requires some prediction and skill to use to its best potential, allowing it to get a Special Attack boost as often as possible, making it more frightening.

Chapter 2-- Of the Beasts​

Sableye @ Leftovers

Sableye really holds this team together, and iis often my lead. The move set is fairly standard, with one strange component-- Snarl. I wanted Sableye to completely revolve around allowing the rest of my team to flourish. He is purely a support role. Snarl allows Sableye to survive many special Attacks, hit the opponent with Snarl, and then chain heal past the opponents newly lowered damage output. Snarl also allows many switch ins that would otherwise not be possible.

Switch ins really are the focus of Sableye's presence. Will-O-Wisp, Taunt, and Snarl are a trifecta that allows one of my other Pokemon to switch in any of the attacking types-- Physical, Special, or Status. Sableye is such an integral part of the team and allows many, many problematic Pokemon to be weakened enough for the rest of my team to work past them.

Reuniclus @ Life Orb

Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Spd

- Trick Room

Reuniclus, boasting a high natural bulk, often accepts Sableye's help and switches in after Sableye's done its work. Reuniclus is perfect to switch in, often more preferable than the other setters on the team, because of its massive offensive presence. Psyshock ensures that even some Special Walls aren't safe to stay in against Reuniclus. If a force is switched by Reuniclus, Trick Room will be set up for free.

Reuniclus really provides a hard, purely offensive presence that works towards the goal of the team-- setting up Trick Room and sweeping. Its bulk is nothing to laugh at, allowing it to take a hit and set up Trick Room, or take that final hit and KO back with its own potent offense.

Bronzong @ Leftovers

EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 Atk
Brave Nature

Bronzong is the most supportive Trick Room setter of the team. Its access to Stealth Rock further eases the job of the other team members. This team attempts to force a lot of switches through threatening the opponent both under Trick Room and when Trick Room isn't active-- Stealth Rock is the most reliable way to punish the opponent's switches.

Setting up Stealth Rock is vital to this teams success, as it puts many Pokemon into KO range for the other members of the team. However, Bronzong also has a bit of an offensive presence to it. Boasting a huge Base Power attack in Gyro Ball vs fast Pokemon, Bronzong can often come in and net a couple of KOs on weakened teams, or on Hyper Offense teams, it can go through the opponents smoothly. Gyro Ball punishes the Chlorophyll users running around, all of which take huge damage from Bronzong.

Conkeldurr @ Flame Orb

The first powerhouse of the team provides the Priority and ever-necessary Fighting coverage of the team. There's a large debate in the Trick Room world-- is Drain Punch better or is Hammer Arm? With Facade, I much prefer Drain punch. Facade provides more damage to those that are neutral to both Normal and Fighting, while Drain Punch give OHKOs on almost every pokemon that Hammer Arm would that Facade doesn't. Only very physically bulky Ferrothorns are the swing factor between Hammer Arm and Drain Punch. Ferrothorn often doesn't threaten Conkeldurr in the least, and as such I prefer Drain Punch's healing. I think Drain Punch further supports the message of the team-- punishing switch ins and forcing switches.

Conkeldurr really is another necessity of many Trick Room teams. Mach Punch often provides the necessary swing point to allow the battle to unfold in my favor. Facade provides a powerhouse attack that wrecks even physical walls that don't resist it. Stone Edge provides very rounded coverage for the Flying types that resist the fighting attacks Conkeldurr throws around. Ice Punch might be more useful that Stone Edge, but I'm not so sure.

Nidoqueen (F) @ Life Orb

The queen of movesets. Nidoqueen provides a very versatile attacking ability. She's much more an "end game" abuser. Her incredible type coverage tears through many teams. The hardest part of deciding whether or not to put her in the team was the debate between her and Nidoking. After running damage calculations, I believe Nidoqueen to the superior choice, as Nidoking is both faster and more frail.

Nidoqueen boasts the incredible coverage that allows her to output this kind of damage to the OU metgame.

Porygon 2 is the most defensive setter of the Trick Room Trio. Like Sableye, Porygon2 boasts Recover to extend his stay. While Porygon2's offensive presence isn't off the charts, the solid coverage of BoltBeam paired with a Download boosted Special Attack can still do a lot of damage. The banning of Genesect has made it easier to gain that Special Attack boost, as well. Porygon 2 is often the only Pokemon on the roster that can get in on a lightly boosted Pokemon and set up Trick Room in its face. Sableye often makes Porygon2's job even easier, providing lowered Special Attack or a burn to the opponent.

Porygon2 also has access to Trace, but I find Download to provide the needed offensive presence more reliable than Trace provides a useful ability. Many of the Pokemon that Porygon2 would force out through Trace are also forced out through the BoltBeam combo.

Chapter 3-- Of the Shortcomings​

This team hasn't yet been perfected. It's been tested sufficiently, but isn't the quality I normally post. I've simply put this here for others to see, as I've not been playing in order to perfect the team. Please provide your suggestions and test this team for yourself.

As a Trick Room team, the weaknesses of this team come in the obvious-- Taunt users, Stall teams, and teams that take the momentum away from this team.

First thing, i suggest u to use an alternative «lead», sableye is useless because has not Trick room and your team don t need an annoyer, so i d suggest you to replace it with Smeargle, focus sash level 1 without Evs, IVs to 0 and this moveset :spore, trick room, endeavor, Extreme speed. With this moveset it can do great things, play 6 vs 5, and start with room more times. Now Conkeldurr has access to trait sheer force, that make it a fantastic sweeper in Troom, so my suggestion is to change his set in 252hp/4def/252atk with lif orb :ammer arm/firepunch/icepunch/thunderpunch. That s an incredible coverage, wich that you should win more games.
Now you need a pokemon that in no troom can revengekill something, so replace nidoqueen with scarflatias, and give it Healing wish, so u could recover a pokemon, i d suggest u to use more times conkeldurr. Last thing, in my honest opinion bronzong in Troom is only a good setter, give it a normal gem and Explosion>gyro ball, to play eventually 6vs 4 or 5 vs 4 after smeargle. First thing, i suggest u to use an alternative «lead», sableye is useless because has not Trick room and your team don t need an annoyer, so i d suggest you to replace it with Smeargle, focus sash level 1 without Evs, IVs to 0 and this moveset :spore, trick room, endeavor, Extreme speed. With this moveset it can do great things, play 6 vs 5, and start with room more times. Now Conkeldurr has access to trait sheer force, that make it a fantastic sweeper in Troom, so my suggestion is to change his set in 252hp/4def/252atk with lif orb :ammer arm/firepunch/icepunch/thunderpunch. That s an incredible coverage, wich that you should win more games.
Now you need a pokemon that in no troom can revengekill something, so replace nidoqueen with scarflatias, and give it Healing wish, so u could recover a pokemon, i d suggest u to use more times conkeldurr. Last thing, in my honest opinion bronzong in Troom is only a good setter, give it a normal gem and Explosion>gyro ball, to play eventually 6vs 4 or 5 vs 4 after smeargle. Hello, I appreciate your rate! That being said, I don't think I'll employ any of your suggestions. Sableye is unbelievably useful. He, in all honesty, should be a staple on Trick Room teams. I've had plenty of success with Trick Room teams and not since Reuniclus have I had any single pokemon be so useful in pulling a team together. As for Conkeldurr, the set I have now has much more consistent and higher damage output, so I think I'll keep guts. I don't use a revenge killer outside of Trick Room, I never have. Hey Absolete man, hope youre going well, props on another excellent Trick Room team! I used your previous team Celestial Beings on the ladder to quite some success, with my own personal modifications (Xatu over Slowbro to fix the three main issues of the team, hazards, taunt, and being 6-0d by Breloom)

Regarding this team I agree with Uomo Solo that that Sableye is pathetic useless and terrible and needs replacing. You know he is right in your mind, you are just afraid to admit it since its a team youve grown to love.

The Xatu set I used was: 248 HP/252 Def/4 Spe if I remember right, with a Relaxed Nature, Rocky Helmet as the item, and a moveset of Night Shade/Trick Room/Light Screen/Roost
It was a custom built set that ended up being highly utile at covering the teams main weaknesses and became a crucial member.
I believe this would be an adept replacement for Sableye.

Alternately something like Jellicent to cover your team's general hatred of Scald, thought I wouldnt know where to start with the EVs or moveset.

The second change I recommend is replacing Stone Edge on Conkeldurr with Thunderpunch. Although this sounds like a scrub move, it allows Conkeldurr to muscle through Skarmory, Jellicent and Tornadus T, all common initial switchins to it. The vast majority of Stone Edge targets (Volcarona, Thundurus, Salamence, Dragonite, the Latis,etc. etc.) are dealth with strongly enough by the 140 BP Facade, so Stone Edge is unecessary imo.

Sludge Wave over Ice Beam on Nidoqueen is questionable due to redundant coverage, Im struggling to think of many situations where it would be better, I can only think of niche ones like against Celebi in Rain. Ice Beam gives you Super Effective coverage on the Therians, Dragons, Grass types anyway and Gliscor, Donphan etc.

I personally ran Explosion on Bronzong over Earthquake to maximise Trick Room turns for a teammate but thats personal choice.

The final change I recommend is changing Download on Porygon 2 to Trace. This gives you an excellent switch in to Heatran, Vaporeon, Intimidaters, Natural Cure Pokemon, Jellicent, Magic Guard Pokemon, many many more, Heatran in Sun is the big one since without Trick Room up it seems like it could decimate your team without this change.
If you change Sludge Wave to Ice Beam on Nidoqueen as I recommended, you already have an overpowered BoltBeam user, so the Donwload boost isnt necssary and the defensive capabilities of Tracing Levitate, Water Absorb, Storm Drain, Flash Fire, Intimidate, Natural Cure, Magic Guard, Poison Heal is much more important.

Sableye is not useless, believe whatever you guys want. It can pretty much take down stall teams on its own most of the time, and Snarl/WoW guarantees something will be crippled early on in the match. It's an underused threat, and most teams don't pack an answer to Sableye. Heatran works, but if you change Pory's ability to Trace (explained further below), he won't be able to get past it.

I would also trade Conk's Flame Orb for a Toxic Orb and changing Drain Punch to Hammer Arm. Conkeldurr will be staying 2-3 turns, 4 tops; so most of the time Toxic Orb will deal less residual damage than Flame Orb. Hammer Arm's additional BP will allow Conkeldurr to just buttfuck everything in it's way, and the speed drop is actually a speed boost under Trick Room. It will lose somne longevity, but the added power will be very beneficial in my opinion.

Aside from that, Scarlequin the Eternal yada yada makes some nice suggestions that I agree with.Replacing Stone Edge with Thunder Punch is the big one, because Salamence and Dragonite can't survive a Facade after SR anyway (except for Intimidate Salamence, which isn't used at all in this meta). Trace on Pory will grant it a lot of versatility, nabbing Intimidate, Posion Heal, Flash Fire, Water Absorb and such, granting it the ability to come into a lot of stuff. Ice Beam over Sludge Wave is also great, giving Nidoqueen BoltBeam coverage and a better way to hit dragons.

Hey nice trick room team Love the use of conkeldurr, my favorite pokemon. The only thing I would do is as the guys above have said Sableye is not the best thing to use on this team. I'd switch either sableye or if it works for you then porygon 2 for a choice specs gastrodon to deal with sun and rain teams:

Choice specs gastrodon is in my opinion the most underrated pokemon in OU. It has almost the same bulk as the Gastrodon we all know and love but the former hits very hard and in a trick room team it's even better because of its low speed stat. Hidden power fire is boosted by sunny day teams, hits grass and steels such as ferrothorn, venusaur and ice types which would normally be a threat to gastrodon and your team are now easily dealt with. Hidden power grass can also be used for water types but STAB earth power does the job just as good. The move combination offers amazing coverage: dragons,steels,fire,grass,ice,ground,bug,dragon,rock and poison OHKOing many things that nidoqueen can't as well as being a wall.
Also as your team has no water type resists, in a metagame full of water types gastrodon will held patch up this weakness as well as being resistant to common fire type pokemon. With a storm drain boost it becomes almost unstoppable with a sp.attack stat of 1046.

Just a random suggestion. How about using Victini? i think it is simply great in trick room. plus the fact that minimum speed investment means more bulk and power. And now it learns bolt strike. And trick room itself. What else could you want?

Quite a nice trick room team you have. The BW2 meta is really offensive, trick room easily ruins offense.

Anyway, I found a problem against well-built stall teams. A simple core of Gliscor + Blissey can pretty much wall your whole team. While I admit that Sableye is good, it seems out of place on this team wait does nothing to poison heal Gliscor. Gliscor can then go on stalling out your whole team with some residual damage such as sandstorm or toxic.
I think that mixed LO Mamoswine fits your team better. Actually, with a neutral nature and 4 evs, Mamoswine can OHKO Skarmory with Blizzard after rocks, giving you a way to wreck stall.

I run a trick room team, and also use Prygon 2, conkuldur and Reuniculis. They are beasts. I use Fear smeagle as my lead, and it often sweeps 2-3 pokes when the opponent doesn't know what they're doing. NP Configorus is a great fighting counter, and a brilliant abuser and set upper of TR. Crawdaunt may be worth a try as well, as an adaptability CB crabhammer in the rain ko's latias and others that resist it. It also has great resists for a TR team. Only thing standing in its way are Ferrothorn and strong water types.
