The ability description for contrary states "If this Pokemon has a stat stage raised it is lowered instead, and vice versa.", but that's not exactly how it works in gen 7: Status moves used with a Z-crystal effect which boost a Pokemon's stats (EG: conversion) will still increase them even if the user's ability is contrary, and I think that should be mentioned in the ability's description.

Please see this thread where I explain the difference between the description and the short description and the constraints on the latter. That being said, Contrary does not appear to have a full description, so maybe Marty will consider adding the details you describe in a full description.
