Pending Add toggle for automatically recommended IVs in the teambuilder

Hello,

I am a staff member in a Pokemon roleplay discord server which uses Showdown to handle Pokemon battles. I am aware, of course, that this is not the target demographic of Showdown, however, I feel that the IVs automatically trying to re-optimize certain stats (in particular Attack) every time certain updates are made to the Pokemon (such as altering moveset) is really frustrating for anyone using Showdown in a similar capacity (simulating non-optimized, non-competitive pokemon battles), and in fact serves no real purpose for its main target demographic, as it could easily be set to the guessed spread button along with EVs and Nature, and more advanced players who manually set EVs are likely to notice any IVs that aren't where they want them as well. If Showdown quietly updated other things like EVs and Nature in the background as players modify other aspects of their Pokemon, I imagine people would be quite upset about it. Why treat IVs differently?

Hopefully this doesn't fall on deaf ears,
Daimee

The teambuilder does things like set Attack IVs to 0 if there are no physical attacks on the set as a convenience feature for competitive players. It is to your advantage in most scenarios to reduce the damage from self-hit confusion and Foul Play, as well as reducing the amount of recovery from an opponent's Strength Sap. For players that do not simply default to Smogon sets (especially for Pokemon in tiers which lack Smogon analyses, like VGC formats), it's not as if these optimizations go away; it's still a convenience for our target audience. Streamlining these features as a default is a priority to Showdown, which caters primarily to competitive play. So we will not remove that feature.

What I think you could reasonably ask for is some sort of toggle, where you can disable the automatically recommended IVs for things like 0 Atk on purely Special Attackers, or 0 Speed IVs on Gyro Ball, or Hidden Power IVs, etc. for particular users. We definitely won't remove it altogether though, or depend on Smogon analyses for it. Not sure how popular that would be.
