Tournament ADPL Commencement Thread

RBY PRs (voting committee: myself)

1. Laroxyl (21k) - ribbon winner and qualified first in the only cycle of RBYLT so far, enough said. Red hot in RBY and just way more consistent tournament player than all the others, with more high level experience, better clicks, better understanding of how to go aggressive etc. his main weakness is that he's not the finest builder in this tier, but nobody in this tour really seems to be either. the only other possible pain point is that laroxyl (relatably) tends to stress a lot about teamtour performances, and losses could quickly spiral his mental. but i'm not really expecting either of these to be big issues, i think he'll keep it together and crush

2. Genesis7 (16.5k) - solid foundations, his SPL went off rails quickly bc at that level people exploit you mercilessly and Gen7 has some builder tendencies that can be taken advantage of. in a weaker pool like this, his shortcomings are far less likely to be exposed (there's nuances that I don't expect people here to really know how to abuse even if they scout for them), so overall gen7 can be expected to put up a good season

3. oligen1 (5k) - the wise drafter's pick for RBY in this pool, oligen1 hasn't fully established himself in the broader community yet but those in the know have been watching him and known he's a tough nut to crack. Decent RBYPL and qualified first cycle of RBYLT just last week, something that many other people in this pool tried and failed to do. Fully expect this to be a steal all in all. They have ACII and Montreal in the back for some support/practice or if things go awkward too - this slot should do well, and should comfortably be the best value for money out of any team in the tournament

4. GirlsSeeGhosts (14.5k) - I have never once watched a GSG game that left me thinking "wow they know what they're doing"; but they're at 1600s and 83+ GXE in the current RBYLT which is pretty fucking sick, and outright clears everyone else below this who's been trying to qualify in RBYLT, so I can only assume I've missed something + they've been grinding and are much improved now compared to the last times I watched em. This pricetag still seems a little insane to me, but I am open to the possibility of a big GSG breakthrough if they've been working hard, maybe this will be the tournament for it. (I'm aware they already had a 5-2 RBYPL but that record came with a few asterisks about opponent quality).
This team also picked a second RBY for their choice in week 1, and they're doing some weird stuff with their undrafted players in general so it's hard for me to predict how much more of that we will see. But Soda_Eesti is a pretty fresh face who needs a few more years in pokemon in general before they can be considered a big threat IMO - I hope they have a good time but I don't expect them to see the field *too* much throughout

5. Sabelette (7.5k) - Sabel seems to be quietly in a pretty decent moment with RBY; I place her 5th not because she has any outstanding positives but because she doesn't have any of the negatives that I see with the players below. Realistically it's very hard to sort out these slots in the middle, it will likely come down to luck and week-by-week motivation levels, and Sabel seems the most level headed and hard working of the lot

6. Louna (3k) - Louna, once infamous for cancering every teamtour he joined, successfully completed an RBYPL last year and is now drafted on a jerk team where he should be completely fine to play a full season. He will do OK. The problem is that he likely peaked about 5 years ago (when he was cancering every teamtour). If we could get peak Louna, once close to SPL level, back to us - that would be sick. Right now his level doesn't seem to be that high though, between a relatively average RBYPL and a not-that-impressive-so-far RBYLT in recent memory. But he certainly has potential to play above this level if he takes the game really seriously again

7. Quarante8 (20k) - Weird decision to selfbuy for RBY, over time I've more and more convinced myself that 48's potential is greater in BW than in this tier, but I guess he likes RBY better right now. I've loved drafting 48 in a lot of tournaments in the past, even in RBY, but that's because he was a 3k that could fight and had good odds to punch up - a pricetag like this seems hard to justify. His 4-5 RBYPL last year is the last notable tour record we have of him, and while it's negative his opponent pool was pretty ridiculously strong, so I don't hold it much against him. I'm ranking Sabel and Louna ahead because I've seen glimpses of greatness in them that I've not seen in 48's RBY as much, but I guess he's pretty motivated to grind the tier if he's selfbought like this and could prove me wrong. Would be happy to see him outperform my prediction, he's a great guy

8. Unowndragon (3k) - A couple years back Unowndragon looked poised to be one of the next big things for RBY, but over the last year or so he's looked more and more lost. He's shown great potential in the past but I really haven't seen it in a while - if he finds a way to reverse the downward spiral he could be an incredible steal, but my expectation would be a negative record here sadly. A little worried for this team as a whole as I don't believe any of their subs are especially well versed in RBY either, so hopefully UD finds his form again

9. oakdeon (4.5k) - Oakdeon is... just a bit worse than everyone else in this pool, simply put. I played a 2v2 'ghosting tour' with him in this tier and he was lovely, but he also missed lines that I would expect people in this tournament to see. He's struggling a little in RBYLT, and all in all his few notable results (I recall an insane lower bracket run in a seasonal from him some time ago) seem more the result of consistent effort and things eventually lining up, moreso than especially high peaks in playing ability. He's by no means a pushover, but I'd expect him to be at a slight disadvantage entering basically every set this tournament.
This team also has NotVeryCake, who I expect will come in for cover if needed - honestly I'm surprised she's not starting to begin with. I think she's a little better than oakdeon, and comfortably in that 5-7 middle clump of threats who WILL make anyone sweat on their good day.

10. Deezcastforms (3k) - If we look at individual results, Deezcastforms would be firmly #3 after Laroxyl and Genesis7. However this man fumbles in most teamtours that he plays. I honestly do not understand it whatsoever, but he seems plagued by a Giannis-like curse. At his peak he has a nuanced understanding of the tier and that rare Troller-esque ability to go for aggressive reads and choke you down in spots where 95% of players would avoid risks and concede ground. He was #4 in circuit points last year for great reasons. But while he was getting consecutive ultradeep runs in RBY Cup and Winter Seasonal, he was putting up a truly unrecognizable 0-7 in RBYPL. His nickname in the teamcord is Leading Rope Investor, that shit was traumatizing for him and for all of us as teammates. I pray that he has healed, but in the meantime I have to place him all the way at the bottom.
Interestingly this team also rolled zinnias from the undrafted, and selected them as their pick for week 1; zinnias knocked me out of the current Seasonal. It's not a tournament I was taking too seriously, but still impressive for someone with very little history in the tier. It is possible ADPL will be a sudden breakthrough for zinnias, especially if DC continues to be cursed and/or if the Guardians continue to pick RBY here. Could even see zinnias make the jump to the main roster eventually if absolutely everything goes well, certainly a very interesting prospect to get from the undrafted pool.

Hello
If you had been randomly selected through the roulette system, you would have been reached out to by managers. Double-checking the list it does not look like you made it in. Sorry about that.

For reasons unrelated to ADPL Maitre Apagnan and Wait2Seconds have been banned. Tomb Raiders have received full sellback value for both players, and selected xdRudi.exe, Typical_bastard, Crowlignt, CaptainEikichi, Airi, Dusk, Oskari, and Destro16 to replace them. Due to the time remaining in the season and the unique nature of the situation, Tomb Raiders will only be required to field 2 of the replacement players.

Due to activity concerns O'Block Okidogis have sold-back ACII. They have selected kingofking to replace them.
