  • Steelix's insanely high Defense makes it an excellent check to common physical attackers in ADV Doubles like Snorlax, Metagross, and Tyranitar, in spite of its Earthquake weakness. Its Ground and Steel typing also gives it a strong matchup into Zapdos and Raikou.
  • Steelix's Earthquake cleanly OHKOes Raikou, though it fails to OHKO Metagross and Tyranitar. However, they only 3HKO Steelix with their respective Earthquakes, while Steelix 2HKOs the both of them.
  • Steelix boasts one of the strongest Explosions in the tier behind Metagross and Snorlax, making it a terrifying threat if it can't be removed quickly.
  • Hidden Power Ghost 2HKOes Gengar and 3HKOes Latias. Hidden Power Rock hits Gengar for significantly less damage but gives it an option to threaten Zapdos without using Explosion.
  • The EV Spread gives Steelix enough Special Defense to be 3HKOed by Latias's Hidden Power Fire.
  • Steelix's immunity to Thunder Wave and sand damage make it one of the few Pokemon in the tier that prefers using Leftovers to Lum Berry. The passive recovery can help it check physical attackers much better.
  • Because Steelix hates facing Water-type attacks from Pokemon like Starmie and Swampert and Fire-type attacks from Arcanine and Gengar, pairing it with Latias, which can resist both types, is effectively required. Pokemon like Suicune and Zapdos also do a great job at pressuring these Pokemon with Hydro Pump from the former's Thunderbolt and Hidden Power Grass from the latter. Gengar makes an excellent teammate for Steelix as it is immune to its Explosion and Earthquake.

we've talked about this on discord but we believe adv spreads can be optimized
as such we figured out 252 HP / 104 Atk / 152 SpD Adamant which
- 252 SpA Latias Hidden Power Fire vs. 252 HP / 152 SpD Steelix: 158-186 (44.6 - 52.5%) -- guaranteed 3HKO after Leftovers recovery
- 104+ Atk Steelix Hidden Power Ghost vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Gengar: 166-196 (63.6 - 75%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
up to you whether you choose to implement this in the main set or in the prose

(this feels so punctuation heavy i wonder if it reads easier if it were split up in two sentences)
  • Steelix boasts one of the strongest Explosions in the tier behind Metagross and Snorlax, making it terrifying threat if it can't be removed quickly.
  • Hidden Power Ghost allows Steelix to hit Gengar, which it is otherwise entirely walled by, and also hits Latias. (i'd swap Latias and then the point about being walled by Gengar otherwise) Hidden Power Rock hits Gengar for significantly less damage, but gives it an option to threaten Zapdos without using Explosion.
  • Steelix's immunity to Thunder Wave and Sandstorm make it one of the few Pokemon in the tier that prefer using Leftovers to Lum Berry. The passive recovery can help it check physical attackers much better.
  • Because Steelix hates facing Water-type attacks from Pokemon like Starmie and Swampert and Fire-type attacks from Arcanine and Gengar, pairing it with Latias which can resist both types is effectively required. Other Pokemon like Suicune and Zapdos also do a great job at pressuring these Pokemon (probably good to mention w/ their attacks specifically even tho adv is ungabunga). gengar is a good teammate as it is immune to steelix's levitate and explosion

Just mention that HP Ghost 2HKOes Gengar and it's good. Given that it's otherwise walled I want the number to be explicitly mentioned. Latias one is less important for a number.

2/2, easy one, great work.
