Administrative Decisions | Replays and Usages | Record Sheet
Rules
  • Follow all rules listed here.
  • Schedule via Smogon VMs. It's easier for me to make decisions for activity calls when I can actually see what went down with scheduling.
  • If you are unable to schedule with your opponent, please let your managers know ASAP so they can communicate that to me or the other team's managers for a potential substitute.
  • Substitutions may be made after a week has started. When making a substitution, please tag myself, the managers of the opposing team, and all of the players affected by the substitute to ensure that everyone is made aware. Players who have already played in the week or were subbed out in the same week cannot be subbed back in.
  • If a match remains incomplete by the time of the deadline, it may be subject to an activity call.
  • It is recommended to play all games on SmogTours as this has all the formats included and games can be recreated in case of unseen circumstances. However, Games can be played on the Pokémon Showdown main server if both players agree. The result between players may be decided in a best-of-one by default.
  • Replays are mandatory. Not only are they useful for confirming wins, they contribute to usage stats and allow the people who couldn't watch the games live to watch them later.
  • Managers: Please send me your lineups in the same format that I used to post pairings. It makes it much easier to post future rounds more quickly.

Before commencing this week, we would like to leave you with some
Advanced Words of Wisdom

Kyogre beheld the thirst of the world and spoke,
“Water is life, and life must be given without end.
Let the rains fall, that hunger be washed away.
In endless seas, all shall be sustained.”

Groudon beheld the crowded earth and spoke,
“Land is life, and life must have room to grow.
Let the continents rise, that homes be made secure.
In vast plains, all shall be strengthened.”

Both sought good, yet neither saw the whole.
Waters drowned the roots that fed the land.
Earth swallowed the rivers that fed the seed.
Thus did excess turn virtue into ruin.

Then descended Rayquaza from the silent heavens.
They spoke no grand design, nor promise of tomorrow.
They stilled the storm and calmed the rising stone.
And the people hailed them hero, for they saved the day, not the age.

The wisdom for us is just having good intentions does nothing to help people.
It is actions, calm and pragmatic which truly makes an impact.
You can wish for granting the greatest of life to all, but none matters if the consequences of the actions are not looked into.
For no one cares for the intentions as they do for what they went through during the ordeal.

With these words of wisdom, Week 4 commences.
Good luck to all teams!

The deadline for this round is <t:1776657599:F>.

Opp has NOT been contacted this week*, but good luck must be wished to my team nonetheless.

*In my signup post I mentioned the week of April 12th-19th was gonna be tough to make work since I'd be offline for the whole weekend, and I don't feel comfortable taking the slot to play if I'm going to feel rushed into playing during the week. But that isn't going to stop the Ubers writeup! It seems a lot of teams have shuffled their lineup around this week, so let's talk about it.

But before we get there: the Tyranitar fad has not died down much at all, has it? We saw another two Tyranitars this week. And that same team trend I keep mentioning about Tyranitar? Well, yeah, every single Tyranitar use has still had one thing in common. Bonus points if you can guess it.

Onto the predicts and semi-recap, which as always, is never personally motivated and more based on my opinions(which are never 100% accurate, but fun primers at best for the games):

ADV Ubers: gostop vs Rhmsitb: Before we get to the match result, congratulations to Gostop on his win last week, it was very well played and being the only person to hold a win on mitana in this pool is a major accomplishment. That team looked engineered to defeat sunstall, and assuming that was the intention, it really worked out. I can't in good consciousness ask anyone to watch a 500+ turn game, but there were some key turns that really plagued mitana. Pulling a crit on surf to force mitana's recover, then a miss from toxic Latias followed up by Roar pulling in Groudon? Very unlucky RNG, and eventually forced the Deoxys-Defense to be the only real line of defense into Tyranitar. Regardless, it's undeniable that DeoMence sunstall was on the backfoot even if it was still possible for mitana to win, and it's games like this which show that the team, while strong in its own right, really has some rough matchups that can be exploited viciously in the builder.

Onto this week: Frankly, I'm a little disappointed I didn't get my own chance at playing Gostop, but I know Rhm is a fantastic Penta Ubers player(gens 3-7) and is a very valued hand for the team. It remains to be seen if he'll need my support in the builder or if he'll just load something he's comfortable with, but either way, I expect great things from his play nonetheless and I will be as useful as requested. I'll be very interested in this one both as a teammate and a fan, but odds are I'm gonna have to catch it on Sunday night or Monday. I really would bold one of them if I felt I knew who would win, but I honestly can't give you a fair answer. I guess the winner here is me for getting to watch this.

ADV Ubers: Just_Leonardo vs Inspirited: Leo is back from a one week break and hopefully recharged; not much to say on Zpanther's end except congrats on winning(still wonder what the last is because it's one of two options, but irrelevant). Inspirited's team last week definitely had Cyber's beat in the builder, but honestly both teams looked suspect in their own ways with some very glaring weaknesses. I think Leo will probably have the slight edge in the builder, but how well will he position himself to succeed with his build is the question. This game comes down to how the clicking unfolds, and I'm unfortunately going to be lame and cop out of this predict because I don't have enough of a read on this to provide you with that answer. I want to see some plays in this game that show who deserves to win, and hopefully RNG does not muddy up this matchup to a ridiculous extent(no game in ADV Ubers is without some level of RNG, this must be accepted).

ADV Ubers: Li Xiao Long vs A Welcome Guest: You're living under a rock if you haven't figured out I'm friends with LXL by this point in the predictions writeup, but the bold comes from an understanding of how strong a player he is and his understanding of the game when in pure analytic mode. I think that this strength will lead him to a win if he can manage to remain composed in the face of possible bad RNG, which any ADV Ubers veteran will tell you can be hard to do in this tier. Another thing to keep in mind - while Heysup has remained in RU jail, he is also a very valuable ADV Ubers support and I think that if I compare overall familiarity with the tier + support in mind, Padawans should be favored here. I would not be afraid to bold against him if I thought he was unfavored, like I did week 1.

ADV Ubers: Premonitions vs mitana: Surprise surprise, I've chosen to bold mitana again. Premonitions actually got a bit of a start in this tier under mitana's eye, and had an amazing showing in the 2024 Penta Ubers run, coming in... I think it was 4th...? to RichardMillePlain if I'm right. Prem ended up spinning off into playing a lot of different tiers, but mitana is the definition of an ADV Ubers main and that differential does matter here. The tier might reward some absolutely insane decisions at times, and offer unplayable games at others. But I truly believe that in this tier, being able to swallow your pride and accepting when you've been dealt a bad hand to then look for the NEXT best possible outcome is important. Mitana showed that he was willing to play out a literal 500+ turn game even with a rough matchup. Barring a genuinely unplayable matchup or unplayable RNG, I think mitana will take this for the Juggernauts.

Last week's predicts: 1/3 PU; 2/3 LC
tied with the ape two weeks in a row is crazy :sob: at least i got some lc predicts right last week anyway woo review time

ADV PU: :claydol: Metallica126 vs Bugsileus :raikou: (guessed Metallica126, L) - bugsileus brought HO vs metallica's bulkier offense and kind of just ran through him off matchup. i think this was a pretty reasonable approach vs someone more experienced like metallica, i do wonder if the ho happened to also be good into scout or if it was just passed in a "this is broken lmao" way. either way it worked out.

ADV LC: :claydol: Souji/Akumu vs Hacker :raikou: (guessed Hacker, W) - hacker brings a double 20 speed elec + pinch build vs souji/akumu's interesting semi-sun with eggy and torchic...? i think this mu is pretty weighted towards hacker assuming his last is a sun check like ponyta or houndour, especially with the lack of trapinch on his opp's team. t1 was pretty interesting because hacker didn't click a pretty free toxic into staryu lead..? but he's rewarded with an extremely skillful tbolt para onto eggy which was def an important piece for souji but i think structurally hacker's SHOULD BE fire type last just cant be removed and even without this para i imagine it was still fine for him. if anything, i think the para full para as bull came in on turns 2-3 was worse than actually losing out on a fast eggy since it just snowballed out of control and cost souji/akumu their anorith who could have been pretty decent in this mu otherwise. souji's team doesnt have anything that bull can set up on for free besides maybe the elekid (if not sub tox) but one would rather pinch trap that than war it with bull so it doesn't really count i think.

ADV PU: :minun: THE_CHUNGLER vs le LLiolae :mewtwo: (guessed THE_CHUNGLER, W) - chungy brings a really interesting fatter team with the knock licki + hbell yena combo alongside tentacool who proves itself useful vs le lliolae's charm and tortle. le lliolae on the other hand has a more standard-looking bulky offense with a tortle + shedinja core in the back. le lliolae lets his minun get tox'd for some reason and that combined with knock licki really speeds the game up for chungy. the only real pain for him is the cb arbok that gets trapped by pinch and the shedinja that could position itself to be a threat. turns 5-6 and 8-9 are really interesting, le lliolae knows his arbok can be harded in on by pinch when its at -1, but he just crit chungy's yena so he could totally just try and get the kill here and remove chungy's hbell support. knowing his full team though, he doesnt really benefit so much from risking his bok to remove yena when the only likely status he's going to deal with are sludge bomb poisons onto yena which get rested off later and a potential resting licki who already has backup checks to his charm (tenta) and minun (it's likely a fat minun with twave on chungy's side which is quite good here into le lliolae's team with no status cure + elec check.), so him swapping out to keep his bok makes sense. the make or break turn happens on 9 where le lliolae has his bok positioned in front of a mighty without an intim drop, and chungy is forced to go hard into pinch to avoid losing a crucial mon but he's risking a sludge bomb poison/1 in 2 crits/eq getting clicked. none of these happen, and chungy's able to successfully kill the bok and from there is able to pretty easily choke out le lliolae. this turn is just kind of tough cuz an eq click is really really good for le lliolae if it lands and a 30% sludge poison also just wins. from there, its mostly smooth sailing with some potential for shedinja to go crazy but between yena and knock licki its pretty hard for him to get into a super winning spot without bok getting a lot of value.

ADV LC: :plusle: Shing vs PoseidonWrath :mewtwo: (guessed Shing, W) - we had a lot of cool lc matchups this week but this was the one i was most excited for. shing brings a really fast team with double 20 elecs + abra + petaya agil horsea with only 2 real bulky mons in lead koffing and wailmer while wrath brings a really insane looking spikes screens HO. wrath makes a really nice t6 boom click on thief, and then goes into staryu, gets up screens, and is uhhhhhh just stuck vs icy wind wail with no good way to make progress around it since his staryu is surf spin and his sweepers are dd bagon, dd charmander, and sunny day bellsprout without external sun support. wrath chooses to just trade his staryu and screens turns for chip on wailmer, and his remaining pieces can't brute force the endgame. really interesting teams to say the least but the game itself ends up being kinda worse off after the staryu turn. such is HO i suppose but wow wrath rlly shitmonmaxxed with snorunt bellsprout charmander and a bunch of his sets.

ADV PU: :delibird: TyCarter vs Aurist :psyduck: (guessed Aurist, L) - god this game was weird. aurist brings a pretty standard looking balance team that seems a bit weak to strong normals and tycarter brings a bulky spikes offense with an all-out-attacking (?) shelgon lead which was pretty fun and cool. on turn 7 ty chooses to sac his pineco to charm when he has seadra in the back which is pretty interesting since in hindsight a pineco boom is really strong vs aurist. this game has two really crucial minun speed tie interactions happen, one on turn 23 where ty subs on aurist's tw and another on turn 45 where ty is able to dodge another game-winning tw. although this endgame is actually really weird to me; there's like a weird mix of aurist wins if they get a sludge poison on minun / if they win a minun speed tie / ty's seadra can win if it ever gets behind a sub for free but i because of that it also forces a kill vs swalot because surf barely outdamages giga + lefties but aurist can thwart that by giga-ing on the swap to seadra but also to kill minun you can only click giga vs it once since you need to sludge twice to kill it and sludging on seadra entry loses i think...? i have no idea i just woke up and this is hurting my head watching it back but whatever unfort to lose both speed ties when either won but thats the game ig

ADV LC: :delibird: Alder ST vs Celdanami :psyduck: (guessed Alder ST, L) - this one was pretty one-sided, celd's hp bug cubone immediately gets lead mu vs an anorith and snipes a cacnea which then forces another sac to break sub. from there alder seems to stabilize with his hp ground elekid beating celd's but then celd reveals lileep who is very difficult for alder to kill but then alder crits through it which almost makes u think he could be back in it aaand then ralts of all mons comes in and just cms to the moon and wins on the spot because alder's pony and elekid lack a strong physical move like dedge or hp ghost. although i wonder if abra could have done the same in this position since alder seemingly didnt have a way to ohko abra either from that spot. either way yea i mean this one was just kinda brutal for alder. celd's psyspam idea is pretty interesting since i assume the abra is like hp water to lure hound / wallbreak and then have ralts be a fatter cm thief wincon which is cool, but it does stack a lot of weaknesses that im not sure im the most fond of.

This week's predicts
ADV PU: :glalie: Plague vs THE_CHUNGLER :minun: - the absolute PU highlight of the tour, the two 3-0s face off vs each other. these two were actually in a very similar position in PUCL where they were the top two players in the adv pool. in PUCL, plague won both games in main season and playoffs. I'm sure chungy is really itching for a win here, but the glalies just have absurd prep on their side and chungy kinda just has himself i think? im sure he has help in some way but it's a really steep hill to climb. rooting af for chungy but i'm gonna take a safer bold here.

ADV LC: :glalie: rineko vs Shing :plusle: - pretty cool mu, shing did say in his winpost last week he didn't put in a ton of effort and he's also like PROBABLY in LCCL finals so once again who really knows how much effort he's putting in here. rineko is an active builder but shing is stronger in-game and no slouch in the building department either since i'm sure even when hes being a bit lazy he has some teams already cooked somewhere. im feeling kinda boring so ill bold shing but theres def a world where rineko wins

ADV PU: :raikou: Bugsileus vs TyCarter :delibird: - last week bugsileus kinda just ran thru with a good HO mu that required very little outplaying/builder knowledge esp with the paths that were taken; unless the same shit happens this week i feel like ty is just solid and more comfortable here.

ADV LC: :raikou: Hacker vs Alder ST :delibird: - this is my LC highlight of the week, two godlike luckers of the tier face off. theyre both good players ofc not to take that away from em but it is very funny to see this mu nonetheless. i honestly don't know who to bold here but hacker needs to be humbled so ill take alder.

ADV PU: :mewtwo: DD Joe vs BlackKnight_Gawain :claydol: - gawain's finally off the bench and dd joe's back after a short break. i can't say i see gawain play this tier too much but i know he's probs decent at worst here and might have metallica influencing his brings? i think joe's due for a breakthrough by now though and his opp hasnt played the tier as much recently tmk.

ADV LC: :mewtwo: PoseidonWrath vs Souji/Akumu :claydol: - wrath like probably definitely overcooked last week affff :sob: but i think he's still solid. souji seems fine and once again i think they're likely to bring something overall solid-ish, in my head i still want to bold wrath but ive bolded enough favored on paper mus, need to do something a bit riskier for once this week smh.

More personal OU highlights
ADV OU: :glalie: Conflict vs Sato07 :plusle: - seasonal rematch is very exciting, sato got lucky vs flict in there from what i remember. it'll be pretty exciting to see them re-visit each other in terms of both prep and play.

ADV OU: :glalie: Mikon vs lighthouses :minun: - mikon is on a tear rn at 3-0 and i'm fairly certain shes an adv newcomer? shes also played overall quite solid in her games so far. lighthouses on the other hand is also pretty new to adv and had a deep seasonal run. i'm mostly just excited for this one cuz mikon is on fire rn and im a lighthouses fan. yeah yeah bias kill me.

ADV OU BO3: :glalie: violet river vs Spreek :plusle: - definitely the Bo3 i'm most excited for this week, two good preppers with a zoomer flair who both got quite unlucky last week. expecting some pretty cool teams in this one.

ADV OU: :raikou: Kaboom vs ADV Andy :delibird: - kaboom FINALLY in ou and his opponent is advanced andrew aka seradess who won a very important game last week for his team vs figull. i have 0 fucking clue what's going on with the delibirds ou with both cactu/eternallywandering and caloom benched but uhhhhh yea seradess atp is gonna have to step up his game for his team and kaboom is another tough one right after figull.

ADV OU BO3: :raikou: Endill vs NoName6293 :delibird: - noname's looked pretty good this tour and im wondering if he can keep it up vs endill, i feel for endill tho he's been really unlucky the past couple weeks. really really hope this series ends up being clean more than anything :sob:

some misc stuff, it's cool to see prinz coming back rlly strong after w1 being very unfortunate and then beating flict and spreek, i alr yapped about mikon and noname being sheist (well for 30k he better be lmao) and whatever the fuck is happening in delibirds ou, oh also sossa is in ou instead of amaranth now for the glalies which is cool cuz sossa is pretty good himself. ok im done talking about ou actually im tired hf this week everyone

ADV OU BO3: :raikou: Endill vs NoName6293 :delibird: - noname's looked pretty good this tour and im wondering if he can keep it up vs endill, i feel for endill tho he's been really unlucky the past couple weeks. really really hope this series ends up being clean more than anything :sob:

some misc stuff, it's cool to see prinz coming back rlly strong after w1 being very unfortunate and then beating flict and spreek, i alr yapped about mikon and noname being sheist (well for 30k he better be lmao) and whatever the fuck is happening in delibirds ou, oh also sossa is in ou instead of amaranth now for the glalies which is cool cuz sossa is pretty good himself. ok im done talking about ou actually im tired hf this week everyone
woke up in the middle of the night and felt inspired to do a bonus special prediction section for PU and UU

In PU, all players will bring a Minun, and all UU players will bring a Kangaskhan.

Thank you for reading

ADV OU: ombrarch vs Scally_Wagon
ADV OU: Ummbr vs isnialan
ADV OU BO3: Endill vs NoName6293
ADV UU: Fantos13 vs LBN lbn has been good and fantos has had some rough games and needed to switch to uu. Still probably the right lineup choice fantos can definitely win
ADV RU: Monai vs JabbaTheGriffin again monai can win but will need a good team, jabba is really playing well
ADV NU: Zpanther vs fatty fatty won last week played pretty well
ADV PU: Bugsileus vs TyCarter evn with me ghosting him for test games most weeks ty is playing well
ADV ZU: Melninja vs Fragments not sure why tony was taken out this week but I believe in melninja, he is a great builder just needs to lock in at gametime. Cool to see fragments winning though
ADV LC: Hacker vs Alder ST hackers team have actually looks pretty nice so this is a fire matchup

:Mewtwo: Psystrike Padawans :Mewtwo: (0) vs (0) :Claydol: Goo Goo Claydols :Claydol:
ADV Ubers: Li Xiao Long vs A Welcome Guest Li has a very close game last week that could’ve gone either way, glad to see him still playing I think he can cook
ADV OU: Vileman vs Rambode rambode is cementing himself as a baller in this ou pool, vileman will be tougher in game than some of his opps but very winnable
ADV OU: Genexys vs FJ2K both had very nice games last week but I’ve teamed with fj before and his prep is good
ADV OU: Void vs Sinodin
ADV OU: eden vs Forte
ADV OU BO3: Prinz vs zinc
ADV UU: Shiba vs Parpar just a solid player I don’t expect Shiba to struggle for too much longer
ADV RU: Heysup vs Eeveeto this is a really cool matchup with 2 players who use some unconventional stuff
ADV NU: Rabia vs Django flip a coin, the coin is more qualified than the 2 NU tier leaders.
ADV PU: DD Joe vs BlackKnight_Gawain has more tier experience recently and I think they’re both pretty similar in piloting level. Step might be able to help a lot with gawain’s build which is quite valuable though
ADV ZU: Joaf vs plznostep even though joaf’s game could’ve turned into a win rather easily, step’s tour has still been better
ADV LC: PoseidonWrath vs Souji/Akumu not sure really

:Psyduck: Mighty Psyducks :Psyduck: () vs () :Suicune: Flawless Juggernauts :Suicune:
ADV Ubers: Premonitions vs mitana
ADV OU: Figull400 vs Sachumberto
ADV OU: Corvinus vs Pak
ADV OU: DarthTyros vs MGdos16
ADV OU: Siglut vs pixie909
ADV OU BO3: Kristyl vs pkThunderbolt
ADV UU: boomp vs crying
ADV RU: gorditoconbigote vs Indulge in dreams not aware of the other guy but indulge usually gives me trouble in tours
ADV NU: Oathkeeper vs hammer798 better season so far and best shengineer last week, I probaly underrated hammer a bit pre draft
ADV PU: Aurist vs Quarante8 they prepped in the same pucl team so this will be interesting, Aurist needs to break out of their own tendencies probably but it’s a hard thing to do when you aren’t winning
ADV ZU: Nal vs Baoba pretty steady hand at the wheel here
ADV LC: Celdanami vs shreyashhy
