Moody Sweeper
Glalie @ Leftovers
Ability: Moody
EVs: 208 HP / 48 Def / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Protect
- Substitute
- Frost Breath
- Taunt
Set Comments
Moves
- Protect allows Glalie to scout moves and stall turns for Moody boosts and Leftovers recovery.
- Substitute lets Glalie soak up hits from strong attacks and gives it more Moody boosts. Additionally, it enables Glalie to acquire boosts against Dragon Tail users, such as Giratina, and Groudon.
- Frost Breath lets Glalie deal damage. It is Glalie's main way of damaging. The PP of this move should be used with caution, because it is depleted quite easily. Frost Breath always results in a critical hit, making it ignore possible Special Attack drops and opposing Special Defense boosts.
- Taunt ensures that Glalie doesn't get affected by Status moves that are disadvantageous for Glalie, such as Whirlwind, Roar, and Heart Swap. To add to that, it can help preventing setup moves like Swords Dance, and Geomancy
Set Details
- Leftovers heals Glalie each turn, which increases longevity, resulting in extra Moody boosts which greatly increases the chances of sweeping.
- 208 HP EVs allows Glalie to regenerate one Substitute with 4 turns of Leftovers recovery.
- 252 Speed EVs with a Timid nature lets it outspeed as much as possible, notably most support Arceus forms.
- The remaining EVs are put into Defense to decrease damage from priority moves that go before Substitute. It also makes the Substitute bulkier.
Usage Tips
- Stall turns with Protect and Substitute for Moody boosts.
- Taunt when you predict any moves that can potentially put Glalie in a disadvantageous position.
- Frost Breath only when necessary. Without Special Attack boosts it won't deal much damage.
- Fish for Evasion, and Speed boosts early on. They will greatly assist Glalie in getting the other useful stat boosts.
- Glalie is more useful late game than it is in early game. It also admires team support before setting up.
Team Options
- Glalie admires teammates that can paralyze the opponents. Glalie doesn't need Speed boosts against them and the occasional full paralyze can give Glalie free Moody boosts. Notable paralyze spreaders include Zygarde, Klefki, and Primal Groudon.
- Trappers such as Mega Gengar and Gothitelle are also beneficial to Glalie. They can remove threats that can stop a Glalie sweep.
- Toxic Spikes can help Glalie defeat opposing pokemon by just using Protect and Substitute.
- Primal Groudon as mentioned earlier can paralyze opponents, it also deals with most of Glalie's checks and counters whereas Glalie deals with most of Primal Groudon's checks and counters.

Other Options
- Freeze Dry can be used over Frost Breath to hit bulky Water types. It also has more PP.
- Sheer Cold is an option you can use over Taunt. You use it when you're given a free turn and want to test your luck.
- Glalite as item with Frustration and Earthquake as moves can be opted if you want to go the offensive route, it gives up recovery for raw strenght. However, this isn't recommended as it takes up the mega slot and is less reliable.
Checks and Counters
Primal Kyogre: Primal Kyogre is a Water type with a lot of Special Defense. It usually takes up multiple Frost Breaths to faint it. In addition to that, it has a perfectly accurate Thunder, so Evasion boosts won't help much against it. On top of that, some Primal Kyogre use Roar which hinders Glalie.
Unaware: Unaware pokemon ignore every boost Glalie may have gotten. Most of them have recovery moves and use Leftovers, which basically drain your Frost Breath PP. You also can't rely on Evasion boosts, because Unaware pokemon ignore them too.
Shedinja: Shedinja has Wonder Guard, which leaves all of Glalie's moves useless. It can easily stall Glalie's PP, but it has to be wary of Taunt.
Mega Gengar: Mega Gengar can trap Glalie before it gets any beneficial stat boosts. It can decide to Taunt, Perish Trap or use an attacking move against Glalie. Mega Gengar does dislike early Speed and Evasion boosts, and also Special Defense boosts if it lacks Taunt or Perish Song.
Magearna: Magearna can Heart Swap the boosts Glalie got in an instant. It also resists Glalie's STAB-move, and can throw super-effective Flash Cannons at Glalie.
